The occluder is a good tool to have in the shower for those who have to wear glasses to see anything. When in the shower and have to read the bottles to grab the correct one, this tool makes it easier to see the wording on the bottles. Just focusing on one of the holes, the vision comes out clear and readable. An optometrist told me to try one of these for this particular purpose. The spoon measures 9.5" and the actual round part of the spoon is over 2.5" wide. This is a black device made of high impact plastic with a hole at the end for hanging. This Optical 9inch Multi 15 Pinhole Eye Occluder offers a surprisingly fun way to test vision. With my -3.75 vision, it was enjoyable to see how clearly I could make out individual leaves on a distant tree that normally appeared blurry. While not made of flimsy plastic, there were some quality control issues, as not all the pinholes were clear of extra material.     • For 10 bucks, answers the question of whether to get new glasses
I'm not any kind of medical professional, so why would I want this? Couple reasons. 1. Allows you to casually determine whether your blurry vision is something having to do with your prescription or something worse. (Look at thing, now look at thing through occluder. If it's clearer, go get new glasses or maybe your first pair. If no change - go get your eyes checked out for worse things.) 2. Slap something opaque over the holes, and use it to play "left eye, right eye". More than once in my many decades of life I've failed to notice that one eye is getting worse, 'cause the other one is allowing me to see clearly. Cover one eye while looking at the TV or a distant object, it looks clear - now cover the other eye, and sometimes it's "holy cow blurry". When you get that, go get new glasses and stop having headaches and eye strain and other issues. Trying to do this by alternately closing eyes is not as good, you're allowing how each eye actually is focused. ... show more

An occluder is nice to have on hand as part of a first aid kit (at least, that is where I store this type of item). Text should be easier to read when you look through the pinholes, so you can use this as a quick vision check alongside the guide, or to help read fine print on the back of pill bottles. One of the holes in this occluder wasn't completely etched through, which is why I knocked off a star. However it's still very handy, and at this price, a good value. ... show more

The Optical 9-inch Multi 15 Pinhole Eye Occluder can be used as an ophthalmic tool to determine your visual acuity at your optometrist's office. Still, at home, it offers temporary visual correction while in use. Looking at small text through the pinholes focuses the text, making it readable without the need for prescription glasses. It has been helpful to keep in the bathroom when trying to read instructions off the many bottles when I don't have my glasses with me. It will not permanently improve your vision and is not a substitute for regular visits to your eye doctor. This one is made of nice, textured plastic, and the holes are smooth.     • Easy to use, but mine had quality issues
This occluder is light in weight which makes it much easier for the patient to hold it up. It has a pleasant texture which helps keep it at room temperature and makes it relatively easy to hold. It is easy to clean I noticed that some of the pinholes were not completely open. There is some left over material in the spaces rendering those holes ineffective. The number of holes matter in situations where you have a set expectation for the amount of light that reaches the retina. Having blocked and or partially blocked holes is less convenient for the patient and the doctor as the patient will need to spend more time finding a hole that works. There is also the potential issue where the patient does not realize that the test requires a completely clear hole to be accurate. This creates the possibility that the test could be adversely impacted. Quality matters with medical devices. Mine failed in this regard so I am compelled to give it a 1-star rating. ... show more

    • Nice vision tool
This pinhole occluder is a nice tool for checking your vision at home. By holding it close to your eye, you're forced to look through the pinholes. This improves your focus, so it makes it easier to read small text, for example. It fits well over my eye, so the size is right. The pinholes could be smaller and more numerous to improve its effectiveness, but it's really nice as it is. It's a pretty good value and makes a great addition to a first aid kit or your car's glove box. ... show more

This occluder has one large, round, concave side with pinholes. The arm is quite long as well making it easy to hold in-between the eye and other instruments. Material is a lightweight, dark plastic.
