I'm not any kind of medical professional, so why would I want this? Couple reasons. 1. Allows you to casually determine whether your blurry vision is something having to do with your prescription or something worse. (Look at thing, now look at thing through occluder. If it's clearer, go get new glasses or maybe your first pair. If no change - go get your eyes checked out for worse things.) 2. Slap something opaque over the holes, and use it to play "left eye, right eye". More than once in my many decades of life I've failed to notice that one eye is getting worse, 'cause the other one is allowing me to see clearly. Cover one eye while looking at the TV or a distant object, it looks clear - now cover the other eye, and sometimes it's "holy cow blurry". When you get that, go get new glasses and stop having headaches and eye strain and other issues. Trying to do this by alternately closing eyes is not as good, you're allowing how each eye actually is focused. ... show more

This approximately 9.5" pinhole occluder is made of medium-thick plastic. The pinhole end seems pretty rigid, but the handle has some flexibility making this feel moderately durable. I prefer this single ended type because I like having the handle grip on the other side. Also, the hole in the handle allows this one to be hung or strung onto a storage ring.     • Nice to have when needed.
Every once in a while, my vision needs a little help. I know when my vision is off when I go to the Ophthalmologist or Optometrist, if I'm seeing minor double vision or it's weird/blurry, they give me the pinhole occluder and it helps tremendously. I had no idea you could get these for home use until I saw this on Amazon. This one is a nice textured plastic and the holes are smooth. It seems very sturdy and I can see a difference while using this when needed. It truly does help straighten out any temporary visual issues. Glad I saw this. ... show more

This occluder has a slightly bumpy texture and matte finish. It is lightweight and somewhat flexible. The material and construction remind me of those kitchen utensils you get in cookware sets from big box stores.     • Another Effective Ophthalmic Tool for Vision Assessment
I tried this occluder with its multi-pinhole design, and I can confirm it works effectively. As someone with a refractive error who wears glasses, I was able to verify that my visual acuity improved when using this occluder as it blocks peripheral light rays and only allows central rays to pass through the lens of the eye, essentially creating a pinhole camera effect. In essence, when I tested it, objects appeared noticeably sharper and more defined. The construction quality is good. While I'm used to Gloss Finish Optics tools, I was slightly surprised this was Matte? Did not impact its quality or my opinion. From what what I can tell, it's still office quality. It's the right size, seems sturdy and made really well. The pinholes are the right size and does a good job overall of fully covering the eye. Sometimes, rather than running to another room to find a magnifier, I will look through a tiny hole, made with my finger, to see an occasional word, number, or picture that might be unclear to my naked eye. This "pinhole occluder" does the same job, only with much less effort! And it is lightweight and unobtrusive enough to sit on my end table next to my favorite chair for reading!
