  • The Oneway Wolverine Grinding Jig is the core component of the Oneway Wolverine line of grinding products. Producing razor sharp tools and finely finished bevels has moved from an art into a science. Owning the Wolverine Grinding Jig will ultimately save you time, frustration and money.
  • The included Quad Setup Jig helps you correctly set the proper grinding angles for Roughing Gouges at 45 deg, Parting Tools at 30-60 deg, Skews at 21.5-43 deg and Bowl Scrapers at 8 deg. Its called the Quad Setting Jig since one jig sets the correct angles for all 4 of the other HSS woodturning lathe tools. The Quad Setting Jig is designed to be used with 8 bench grinders.
  • Carpenter chisels up to 1-1/4" wide can be sharpened using the Wolverine's Vee-Arm. The arm is adjusted to set the bevel, and the chisel can be ground with small sideways motions and light cutting pressure. Three or four strokes on a strop will generate a razor sharp edge. The Wolverine Grinding Jig comes with a 3 x 5 inch adjustable platform which allows even large scrapers to be ground with ease.
  • Parting tools are sharpened using the platform. Laying it flat on its side on the platform gives a slight hollow grind which is very desirable for clean parting. The Wolverine's Vee arm can be used to sharpen skews, but a far superior method is ONEWAY's Skew Grinding Attachment (not included). With a finely dressed 80 or 120 grit wheel, even very small carving tools can be superbly ground using the standard Vee-Arm.

  • Almost 6 stars relative to the competition
This is a great jig, and in comparison to trying to repeatably free-hand grind or some other jigs I have used in the past it's a 5 star product. I'm giving it 4 because, being so good, it has a small feature which could be improved on that on a lesser quality jig wouldn't be mentioned because it would be lost in the general noise. The good: Solid and substantial construction The basic grinder work platform is a huge upgrade in and of itself relative to the tiny things that come with most bench grinders Great design Easy to use The less good: To use this jig you need to mount it in alignment with the grinder wheels. This typically requires making a plywood mounting base for the jig and grinder, mounting the grinder, then aligning and mounting the jig. The problem is that the jig mounts to the board with screws through 3 holes. With my 8" Ryobi grinder in place, it blocked direct access to the jig mounting holes. This led to trying to drive in the screws using a flex-drive shaft, and I must have side-loaded one and slid the jig as it ended up being mounted a couple of degrees off relative to the wheel. Not a huge issue to work around, but annoying nonetheless. The jig itself does not have any capability to adjust out this type of error, and being mounted with screws means that to correct this small amount of misalignment I'd need to make a new mounting base as a new screw in the old base would find itself going into the old hole. It would be a relatively easy design fix to widen the mounting base of the jig half an inch or so and provide clearance for installing the mounting screws - as well as having room to add extra holes in case of an initial misalignment. ... show more

  • Fantastic jig for sharpening wood turning chisels. Wish I had bought it much earlier.
Woodturning is an expensive hobby, and at first glance purchasing the Wolverine jig seems to be an expense that could be avoided. For several years I made do with a homemade version of this jig -- after all its not too complicated. Finally I got frustrated and ordered this because of its reputation as the very best of the grinder-based sharpening jigs. Wow! It has a simple, but very well thought out design. All the cams lock solidly and easily without changing the distances and angles while tightening. While I could (eventually) set everything with my homemade jig, it would often take me several minutes to make even a very small change, and tightening down everything would shift the settings and make me try again. With the wolverine system I can adjust things in a few seconds that would have taken 30 minutes or so to get right on my homemade one. As a result, I am not tempted to "make do" with settings that are "sorta close". So it saves both time and tool steel that would get ground away by imprecise settings on my old system. Now that I am more experienced, I would recommend starting off right by buying this. A good sharpening system is probably second only to a good lathe for both ease of working and quality of work. In expensive chisels, sharpened well, out-perform much more expensive chisels sharpened poorly. I would therefore buy this before spending big bucks on lathe chisels, a top-end grinder, or even a top-end lathe! Note: Even an inexpensive grinder works well with these. With CBN wheels (mine were from Woodturners Wonders) it is even better, and sharpening has gone from a hit and miss frustrating affair to a joy! ... show more

  • Great for Accurate Sharpening
This is a great tool. It produces a consistent grind for sharpening my wood-working tools. However, a word of warning for those that own a Craftsman 6-inch Variable-Speed grinder as I do, OR a grinder with a base that extends to below the wheel(s) (if neither of these apply to you, disregard everything after this); This thing will NOT fit under your grinder without SIGNIFICANT modification. The base on my grinder extends all the way to the outside edge of my grinding wheels. As a result, the mounting base for this jug will not fit. I had to mound my grinder on a support platform, high enough for the mounting base of the jig to fit underneath. The instructions that came with the jig stated that the "critical" measurement was 6-1/4" - 6-1/2" from the base to the center of the wheel. With my modification, it was well over that. After a call to the manufacturer (One-Way in Canada - EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE...talked directly to the engineer that designs this !), he stated that the "critical" distance was ONLY if you were to use the One-Way wheel dresser tool. Also as a result of my necessary modification, the platform is now useless unless I break the welds, extend, and offset it to work for my height / clearance requirements. But, in spite of my challenges, it's well-made, works as advertised, and is worth the price. And a bonus is the great customer service from the manufacturer. ... show more

  • Wolverine grinding jig.
Very sturdy. It took me awhile to get it set up but now - works as advertised. A must if you want to sharpen bowl or spindle gouges. Other tools too. A quality accessory.

  • Excellent. Bought a 2nd one.
I'm updating my review, having purchased a second one this past week: I've had this jig for well over a year now and it's great. I bought a 2nd set to go with a new grinder, and so that allows me to grind from 80 grit up to 600 on CBN wheels. I have two setups for sharpening gouges on a 180 and then a 600 wheel and it works great. My only knock is that the mounting holes are a bit of a hassle for screwing the base to a surface. Big whoop, right :-) So the fit, finish and build quality are excellent and I highly recommend this to use with a Wolverine gouge setup for reputable profiling.. ------------------------------ Previous review ------------------------------ Turns sharpening into a simple process for my bowl gouges in particular. It's well made and heavy.. Some indexing marks on the slide mechanism would be helpful, and the locking mechanism can cause the slide to shift a bit if you aren't careful. But overall I'm very pleased. I bought to use with a 10" slow speed grinder and had to mount the grinder on a riser to put the jig directly under the wheel. But that isn't a problem; just a heads up for anyone with a 10" wheel on their grinder ... show more
