  • Detailed Overall Reveiw ***MUST READ***
I only valued the "easy to use" as 4 star, not because they aren't easy to set up (because it's totally easy to set up) but because of the fact that the 10lb plates are larger in diameter than say, the head of a 60lb dumbbell, making the dumbbells slightly harder to use for things like chest presses (granted they're supposed to go up to 100lb each handle, which I've not done chest presses with 100lb dumbbells before, so it may be proportionate to that size, I couldn't tell you). Also, the grip texturing isn't too aggressive, if you have generally sweaty hands, you may need wrist straps when you go up in weight, but I'm forcing myself to be picky and particular about those couple things to create a good review. In all honesty, these are a really nice pair of dumbbells. Well worth the money. They feel well balanced, and well made. I just got mine and the paint chipped slightly (1mm x 1mm spot) but hey, you're not getting dumbbells so they always look pretty. They're a tool you use to exercise. The best way to tighten the weights to the handle is to add all the weight you need, the the nuts on both ends and tighten them at the same time. The company has included rubber washers for the inside of the handle and the locking nut to create a good tension on the threads while holding the weights in. And it works very very well. The company also included a back up set of rubber for each handle. Which I feel is the kind of high level quality you expect when paying $200 for something. Both thumbs up to the company. You guys done did good. ... show more

  • Great for building a home gym
The product is exactly what it claims to be: 200 pounds of metal. There's nothing particularly novel or unique about this product, but it doesn't need to be. It's reliable. It's durable. And boy, it's heavy. It's easy enough to take it apart and customize the weight used. Personally, I prefer this over auto-adjustable dumbbells for the following reasons. 1) it's heavier than most of them, and 2) due to its weight, it has better price per pound ratio. And while it isn't quite as quick to adjust, it's still very usable. The only problem I have with them is that the paint seems like it has the tendency to chip a little bit. However, it's not much at all, and it doesn't affect the product's functionality one bit. It meets my standards for a five-star product. ... show more

  • I'd Buy Again...
The dumbbell bars are 16 inches long and 1 1/8" diameter. The 10 lb plates are just under 9" diameter, which is taller than most common plates, but they're also thinner, so that more can fit on the bar. The plate height hasn't bothered me, but it could for some movements. "Standard" dumbbell bars are 14" long, but these are 16" which is good for added capacity. The rubber rings on the collars do seem to help, but they tend to come free when changing plates - not a big deal, but be aware. The knurling on the handles is fairly deep and aggressive, but I normally wear gloves. Putting cloth/hockey tape around the handle sections would fix that as well. These may sound like complaints, but I really like this dumbbell set. Most standard 1" plates do fit on these bars - York/Weider and CAP style plates. (I did find one odd Weider 5 lb plate that had a smaller hole diameter and wouldn't fit, but it was the single exception.) For home gym use, I've been using these for dumbbell weights at and above 65 lbs. For lighter dumbbell work, I've been using other 14" bars and plates - The shorter bar is more convenient for that, but limited to about 65 lbs capacity due to bar length (without using ridiculously large diameter 25 lb plates). As a single dumbbell set to use for all weights from 5 lbs up to 100, this set would work just fine. I'm waiting for the matching 4 x 10 lb extra plate sets to come back in stock to add to this set. Up to about 125 lbs per dumbbell would work with these bars, using extra 10 lb plates. Bottom line is that I'd recommend this dumbbell set and would buy it again. ADDED COMMENT MAY 2017: Still very satisfied with this dumbbell set. Added an extra 4-piece set of matching 10lb plates, and 125lbs per dumbbell works fine... but I have to add that I substituted locking collars (from ebay): There are multiple collar styles available. Not all require a hex wrench, but that is a more permanent/secure option. I use these for heavier dumbbell movements, like dumbbell rows or flat/incline benches. If you get to the point where 125lbs isn't enough on a movement, I'd recommend getting an 18" bar (or longer). I got a little off topic there, but I do want to say that these are a great value. After some minor initial paint flaking, which I've seen some comments on, they stabilized with no issues. I would definitely buy these again. ... show more

  • Solid bang for the buck
I have had this set for a few months now and it's been pretty great. The weights are a good thickness and we'll coated. I haven't noticed any rust developing yet. I chose this set because first and foremost it was available and secondly because of the amount of weight to cost. Pros: Weight to cost, get the job done, solid construction if you're the kind of person who drops their weights. Cons: changing weights isn't the fastest even rushing I think the fastest I've successfully changed the weight was.just over a minute, you can mitigate this with another set of handles or isolateral workouts. The rubber grommets can get worn down on the spin collars and need to be replaced, try and make sure you have spares and always check to ensure a tight fit before your set. If you aren't being careful you can pinch your webbing between the weights and the threading on the handle. As I mentioned before I've rushed trying to change weights and this has happened a few times, it hurts, you'll break some blood vessels, but still not a big deal. Overall I would recommend, but I'm still on the lookout for some solid non-threaded standard handles to make these even more convenient. ... show more
