  • Great quality & reliability. Solid function
This is a good strong boom. It holds it’s position tightly. I use these for overheads and room mics mostly. Keep in mind the stand you put this on, the clip/shock mount and mic weight are all factors in how this performs so be realistic. The back of the stand is not actually a counter weight, it’s more of a handle. I feel in a boom of this length the back should be weighted, that is the only drawback on this model. The back handle is removable though so if you need to add a counter weight in it’s place that is an option for you. I bought this to replace an older one of this model, it’s telescope clutch gave out. It lasted through about 15 years of road and studio abuse so that speaks to the value of these booms. It’s the only one I’ve ever had go out. Overall I recommend this boom for high function and value. I use this brand a lot, I have a bunch of their stands and stand components. I’ve always been happy with their quality and reliability. ... show more

  • Mic clip spins
This top where the mic clip goes loosens up and spins..we just drilled and put a scree in it but was bery annoying to have your clip and mic droop. The tip is a press fit so see above for my fix. Just should not have to do that. The rest is a decent and lengthy boom

  • It shags over time if extended with an averagedly-weight mic mounted
This boom can be extended quite long, and that's what I needed. But even with just an SM58 mounted, the boom will slowly shag if I extend it for just 32" (it failed miserably when mounted with a Studio Projects C1 condenser). I tried to tighten the neck bolt as much as I could (even using a wrench), but it still shags, which is really annoying. I may have to open up the neck to do something about it to stop it from shagging. I'm too lazy to return it, so I stopped using it and have gone back to an older mic boom, also made by On Stage. Thic mic boom can only be extended to 32", but it's much more heavy-duty and never shags on me. Buy another brand, if you need a mic boom to support any sort-of-heavy microphone. ... show more

  • Good value stand, but not for heavy mics
Very nice construction, hardware, and design for this price. I was looking for something compact for my backroom studio so I put this boom on top of a typical Atlas stand with a 10 pound barbell weight around the base. It all works excellent except that I have to SUPER torque the boom to keep it from drooping under the weight of a large-diaphram condenser like a Rode NT1. I'm sure adding a counterbalance off of an old boom will work fine but not everyone has those laying around like I do, so be aware of that little issue. ... show more

  • Junk [REVISED REVIEW]
I have given this product a second chance and I'm convinced that either I had a defective unit the first time or they improved their product. No matter the reason, I have had amazing results with every other boom. I buy multiple booms to sell as accessories to piano shells. Below is my original review: [I'm a professional piano player and require a solid boom for my job. This purchase proved a total waste. The clamp doesn't hold unless it's tightened VERY hard. It feels as though it could strip out at any time. Worse however, is that the threaded insert that holds the mic clip spins freely. The metal has dimples that are supposed to prevent it from spinning, but they obviously are not the best solution. This was a total waste of money.] ... show more

  • Works great
I use this boom with an On-Stage mic stand with the round weighted base. It leans a little bit on carpet if the boom is extended too far, but this thing is so adjustable I can always find a position that I don't have to worry about it tipping over. It would probably work even better with a tripod type stand. The tension knobs are easy to adjust and hold firm once your mic is in position. ... show more

  • Pretty Decent
It is a little flimsier than I would like but all-in all a good deal, It would be nice if the clamp that held the boom swivel up and down adjustment was stronger. Maybe even teeth. I have to crank it kinda hard. Hope it lasts.

  • good replacement boom
I bought this to replace the boom on my Pyle of $*%& boom mic stand (see my other reviews). Works great and I am certainly not disappointed in it for the money. The boom is of much higher quality than the Pyle unit and works great with my Mic setup. I would have no problem buying another of these booms. ... show more
