  • A terrific pre-built gaming PC
I've had this for 4 days. There were no reviews when I bought it so I was taking a chance... on an HP pre-built no less. I'm glad I did! Here are some thoughts that will hopefully be helpful... Coming from someone who's built gaming and business PC's, I'm overall impressed with the Omen 30L and its performance. It's also extremely attractive and very well built. The Omen 30L doesn't have all the fine-tuning options as with a custom-built PC, but it performs as it should, and ultimately that's what matters. Performance is on par with benchmarks you'll find online for a 10900K and RTX 3080 combo. Besides having no options in the bios to really fine-tune this rig, my only criticism would be the volume of the fans under load when gaming and the slightly high temps. This is simply because the case is very compact and the three fans (120mm front, 92mm back and 120mm radiator at the top) can only do so much. That said, RTX 3080 temps in the mid-70's and 10900K temps around 80 in Warzone at 4k with all the eye candy turned on is acceptable. I'm planning on replacing the radiator fan with a Noctua NF-A12x25 to hopefully lower CPU temps and volume under load. At idle, it's pretty quiet. The RTX 3080 is custom for this PC. It has three fans with a curve that shuts them all off when at roughly 30 degrees or below. The middle fan runs by itself at 30% when just above that temp. You can definitely hear all three fans when under load, but nothing out of the ordinary or annoying. Any overclocking is performed from the Omen Command Center, not within the bios. The memory is already running at the only option you can choose above stock (@ 3200). So really with the temps being where they are, there's nothing more to accomplish with overclocking. This is a gaming PC for someone that wants the latest high-end tech in a no-frills package running at stock speeds. Just turn it on, load your games and enjoy! Gamers and content creators wanting to plug-and-play will be very pleased with this computer. Tweakers who wish to spend hours squeezing every ounce out if it for maximum performance might be disappointed. But to me, the difference between 123 fps on this attractive pre-built machine at stock and 128 fps on a custom-built PC that's perfectly dialed in doesn't justify spending all the time and money for those extra 5 frames. I've now had four full days on this computer... no hiccups... no stutters... just great performance that feels "right". I'm honestly surprised. HP can thank the 3080 shortage for my purchase. Well done, HP! ... and did I mention it looks great?! ... show more

  • Awesome but loud sometimes
First thing is, I love it. Has the 3080 with i9 10850k. Under load it’s warm ad. When it gets taxed like In Flight sim 2020 in a big city the fans will crank to 11/10. Man it’s loud. It’s fixable. New case and probably an new cooler. But that doesn’t detract from how sweet a rig it is. High frames with anything you can play at 1440p. I’m sure 4K is great but I don’t have the monitor to try. Boots up in less than 10 seconds. Computer itself is gorgeous. Shipping was quick and the box was in good shape. Also comes in the omen box, so there’s no hiding what it is. Overall I’m glad I got it. It’s insanely expensive, but that’s today’s market In pc stuff. If you want a great, fast l, super awesome but super loud (sometimes) pc. Go for it. ... show more

  • A lesson in buying computers from Amazon...
Be careful buying pre-builts from Amazon. Due to the insane shortages on GPUs right now I decided to buy a pre-build PC. HP's Omen line has been pretty good and the buyer usually gets a well built computer with good parts selected for the overall build. These aren't scam pre-builts like Sky-Tech or others where you're buying a computer close to MSRP for a good build but getting all garbage components. Aside from the awful AIO cooling this computer is actually very good. However, the reason I am having to ship my computer back for a refund is due to it arriving broken. Amazon decided to ship my Omen in an oversized Amazon box with plastic air-bags all around it. We all know shippers like FedEx or UPS are notorious for not taking care of packages and so they need to be shipped in well protected containers. What arrived at my front door from FedEx was a large Amazon box that was slumped over like someone was body-slamming it for fun between shipments. When I opened the box, most of the air bags were popped and the Omen box had a few dents in it, not sure if from shipping or from being stored, not sure. When I booted the computer up all seemed well until it started critical failing and force-restarting (even when doing nothing at all on the desktop). I tried everything for what boiled down to be black-screen crashes. Everything looked fine and my event log and computer could not show me any signs of there being an issue. All diagnostics showed the computer was fine. After more than a day of TS'ing though it's time to send it back. But I don't want to fault the seller or HP's build, the computer looks great and the box was never tampered with. It was just shipped so poorly that I blame the shipper (FedEx) and Amazon for the over-sized box. TL;DR Amazon needs to take better care of the computers they ship. A giant box with some air-bags is not good enough. ... show more
