Description

Add a true classic to your timepiece collection with the latest generation of the amazingly precise and rugged Omega Speedmaster. This stainless steel automatic men's watch is a replica of the first watch worn on the moon, and it includes a powerful chronograph, which offers 12-hour, 30 minute and 1/10 second subdials. Definitively masculine in design, it features a mid-sized, round silver stainless steel watch case with a tachymeter bezel in silver with black markings, and it measures 39mm (1.54 inches) wide. It has a black dial background with silver-tone hands and baton dial markers as well as an automatic date display at 3 o'clock and small minute indexes. Other features include a scratch-resistant and glare-proofed domed sapphire crystal, and water resistance to 30 meters (99 feet). It's completed by a silver stainless steel link bracelet band that offers polished highlights, which is joined by a secure, push-button clasp. Automatic Watch Movement An automatic watch is self-winding, and its movement has a reserve that must be at least partially filled prior to being worn. This is done by shaking and winding the timepiece manually. In order for an automatic timepiece to keep a reserve, it must be worn daily for 8 hours of active wear. This watch as a 44-hour power reserve. The Omega Story The Omega watch story begins in 1848, when founder Louis Brandt began hand assembling key-wound precision pocket watches from parts supplied by local craftsmen in his principality La Chaux-de-Fonds, in the northwest corner of Switzerland. However, the Omega name didn't appear until 1894, after Louis Brandt had passed away and his watchmaking traditions were taken over by his sons, Louis-Paul and Cesar Brandt. Omega watches have long been associated with glamorous screen and sports stars--the Omega Seamaster is famous for being the watch of choice for James Bond--with current ambassadors including Pierce Brosnan, Nicole Kidman, tennis player Anna Kournikova, and swimmers Michael Phelps and Ian Thorpe. But Omega is more than just a fashionable watch. In 1965, the Omega Speedmaster chronograph was "flight- qualified by NASA for all manned space missions" as the only wristwatch to have withstood all of the U.S. space agency's severe tests, including passing grades for extreme shocks, vibrations, and temperatures ranging from -18 to +93 degrees Celsius. The greatest moment in the Speedmaster's history was undoubtedly 20 July 1969 at 02:56 GMT, when it recorded man's first steps on the Moon's surface as part of the Apollo 11 mission. Today, Omega is known for its rigorous testing of new movements, cases, and bands. Each new Omega movement is tested on the wrist in existing Omega models, while various laboratory tests are conducted to determine temperature-resistance, shock- resistance and vibration-resistance.

  • Looks nice but I would not recommend it
I have had this watch for less then 2 years and it constantly runs late. I had to take it for an adjustment. I worked ok for two weeks and started running late again. The Omega repair person told me that it is normal for these automatic watches to fall beind 5 seconds every day!!! When you pay so much money for a "coveted Swiss watch" you would think it should do the one thing its supposed to do, show time, precisely - that's not the case. Also, if you buy this watch online you have to mail it in to Omega for repair. If you want to take it for repair to authorized repair center, you have to pay for the repair out of pocket. If you need a watch that never needs batteries get yourself a nice Kinetic Titanium Seiko. It cost 3 times less, its lightweight and always precise. I had it before the Omega and loved it. ... show more

  • 3.5 stars
I bought this because I was looking for an automatic chronograph whose diameter was under 40mm. (when worn 39mm and 40mm watches look very different. Though the difference in just 1mm, 40mm watches look much bigger than 39mm watches). There are better/better-looking automatic chronographs out there with comparable prices but they are too big to look like mine. Overall I am satisfied with the watch! Plus: 1. Good quality Omega chronograph fitted in 39mm case. The quality of Omega pieces is much better than Tag. Tag cant seem to make one automatic piece whose thickness is less than 14-16mm while Omega seems to have fitted the parts in 39mm/11.5mm thickness case. 2. Completely satisfied with the steel casing and the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. If you are thinking of buying 3. Bracelet is a very good piece of engineering. The lock and release is very well engineered. The bracelet has a link which is half the size of other links so that you can get a good fit on your wrist. Minus: 1. The seconds hand rotates only if the chronograph is on! This is very counter-intuitive and made me wonder if this was a manufacturing defect! (no, it is not a defect. That is how the watch is designed to work) 2. The illumination material on the minute/hour/second hands that allows you to read time in the dark is too little to read time comfortably. 3. If your wrist is hairy, the links on the bracelet pulls the hairs on your wrist. The pulls are so small and happen so less often they are almost negligible but it could have been better designed. (Bracelet design for Seamaster watches are better) 4. Amazon is good for selling books and music but seem to lack experience with selling expensive items like this. I had some trouble with the order and though their customer service has improved a lot they lack experience in selling expensive items like this. This watch if for you if you have a relatively small wrist but want to own (and wear) a good chronograph (and don't mind the Tachymetre scale). ... show more

  • After a few years it looks and runs great.
I picked up the timepiece a few years ago, and it has been my daily use watch. Amazingly the crystal and face still looks as shiny and clear as when I first bought it. The bezel has shown some very minor wear which is normal of any stainless steel(SS) bezel. This model was discontinued by Omega because they decided to split it up into two models where the black face has a black bezel, or a white face has a SS bezel. I still prefer the look of this model that combines the black face with SS bezel. The time is still accurate to within about 5 seconds a day. Clearly anyone complaining about this has no clue about owning a mechanical timepiece, and should stick to a Seiko quartz. I am still very happy with my purchase and plan to keep it forever. (btw, the time piece does have a constantly running seconds hand, but it is on one of the sub-dials) ... show more
