  • Is This a Real Omega, Or Are We Being Ripped Off?
I wonder if this is an authentic Omega Seamaster, not something made in Malaysia, or China. The seller (WatchMaxx) of course claims that it is. Does Amazon actually check the authenticity of the merchandise that they offer? A real Omega should work for generations, with periodic servicing, of course. I have a 1949 vintage Omega, which works great to this day. The "Seamaster", or whatever it is stopped working, or at least stops and goes after only four years. Probably should have bought a real one at a real, authorized dealer. Paying the extra few hundred dollars would have made a lot of sense. As it stands, I have a very expensive, $2,542.50 paperweight. Very disappointing all around. Buyer beware ... show more

  • Meh
Iffy quality. The watch does not always run properly. It will stop and start repeatedly even though it has been "shaken" sufficiently. Not nearly the quality of my Breitling..

  • It's a great watch with minor shortcomings.
Watch Time magazine rated this particular Seamaster 73 points against the 75 points given the Rolex Submariner, which cost a $3000 more. Therefore I consider the Seamaster easily on par with the Rolex Submariner, with a better price point. The Seamaster can take a beating and keep good time. I've sailed with it and it's taken some major bangs, but it's always held up. Shortcomings include having pins with bushings to connect its bracelet links, which are complicated to remove an replace properly. Seawater can rust these pins and when that happens, well, you gotta live with it until you decide to send it in to Switzerland for an overhaul (which others have informed me will make it look like new again upon return). I find the bezel hard to turn, yet my wife does not. It seems popular from the James Bond movies, which I've never seen. People recognize and compliment the watch, which is always nice to hear. The caseback on the Seamaster is ridged and quite comfortable. I've had display back watches and disliked the glass sticking to my wrist. However, when you buy this watch, you become enslaved to Swatch for parts, and even authorized dealers won't sell any you may need. Swatch has become very heavy-handed in their after-care. This review would likely be more enthusiastic had I not recently sent mine back to Bienne for an overhaul, which cost $295 Swiss Francs (it's eight years old and automatics need more care than a simple battery operated watch). The other side of that coin is Rolex would double that charge for an overhaul, and do a lesser job. It's a good watch overall. Even though it's a sports watch, many think it's a dress watch for some reason. I recommend getting the automatic Bond model in full size, with a blue dial and circular markers which present a more nautical look than other Seamsters, but that's my preference. If you want to get away from the Casio/Timex/Swiss Army brands, and want to have a "prestige" watch that offers a big bang for your buck, I'd recommend this over any other watch I know - and not too appear pretentious, I know watches quite well. Caveat: Beware of counterfeits. There are non-corporate Omega sites that will help you detect a counterfeit, if you Google such information. I hope I have been helpful. • Elegant Midsize Swiss Luxury Watch
I bought this watch as a Christmas gift for my father. I have an Omega Seamaster Chronograph myself, and I'm a fan of the brand. After trying on a full-size dive watch, he opted for something smaller. I think Omega (plus a few others) is filling a real hole in the luxury watch market with the mid-size watches. With the trend in women's watches for larger faces, these are selling to ladies as well. My daughter wants one! He's had it now for just over 4 years and he love's it. He's had no problems at all. It was his first real automatic watch. Unlike me, he rarely takes it off. This watch has all the trappings of a luxury watch - Swiss made, automatic movement, chronometer, sapphire crystal, etc. And it's a real dive watch, complete with screw down crown. In my opinion, the Seamasters have amazing stainless steel bands. The bands on the Rolex Submariners feel much less substantial by comparison. All in all, we love the watch and would highly recommend it. I consider these luxury watches investments and "heirlooms", which my wife thinks is a crock. Note: This watch has risen in price by 50% since I purchased it 4 years ago! We could easily sell it used today for more than I paid. In my book, that is a GREAT investment! One final note: I purchased this direct from Amazon with full knowledge that there was no manufacturer's warranty, but a 2-year Amazon warranty. Judging by the poor reviews here, many people are surprised by this fact. To get Omega's full warranty, you must purchase from an authorized dealer. Be prepared to pay 20% to 40% more for that privilege. I've purchased several watches from AD's and have nothing against them. Having options is a good thing, but make sure you understand the fine details. ... show more
