  • 4 Stars, For Now UPDATED
This is my first scope since school days and so far it seems to be working OK. I've not attached or tried the 14MP camera but that's to come. In the meantime, unless I missed it, there are no manuals or instructions whatsoever for the scope, just a bit of a blurb for the software that's included for the camera. TSK, TSK, OMAX!! I have used the camera that shipped with the scope and so far, I'm very happy with the results. As others have remarked, that's in focus in the eyepieces is not necessarily in focus with the camera but the live view on your PC or laptop is very helpful. I have the MAC version running on a fairly high end MacBook Pro and I find it sluggish and not vey intuitive to use at all. With that said, this is my first foray into this type of stuff so I'm not sure if this is normal or not (sluggishness). I've added two pictures, both are from a prepared set of slides. The first is Dog Esophagus and the other is a Bee's Leg. ... show more

  • DIGITAL CAMERA IMAGES ARE AMAZING !!!
OMGEEE !!! I am a Medical Technologist specializing in Hematology. I got this digital microscope to make digital images of Hematology Slides that I have collected over the past 44 years. I recently rediscovered a slide from 1986 that I had kept from a patient that I was miraculously able to diagnose with Trypanosomiasis aka African Sleeping Sickness on Friday, Thanksgiving Weekend, 1986. It was easy for me to set up with my experience working with clinical laboratory microscopes. Also, I was able to take a picture with the high resolution 14 MB camera within 15 minutes of plugging it in to my Dell XPS 15 laptop with high resolution monitor !! The camera quality images associated with this review are absolutely AMAZING !!! It is an excellent value for the price. Update 5-1-2021 - Added some amazing pictures from a patient diagnosed with Type IIB von Willebrand Tampa variant - with circulating Platelet Clumps !! ... show more

  • A Fantastic Voyage (or..Pond Scum Rules!)
Model: CS-M837ZL-C140U In my opinion, this is a very well built, precise instrument. The optics are of good+ quality and the stage controls are precise and smooth. The light and condenser adjust nicely and the objectives click firmly in place. The only thing I would wish for would be a way to adjust the focusing point for the digital camera to be the same as the optical focusing point. They are close but I have to make a small adjustment when going from optic to digital viewing. The software for the camera is top notch and will take some time to learn and utilize all of the features and capabilities with features like layering and HDR. The camera resoultion has 3 settings in the software: 4096X3288 (13.2 megapixels) 2048X1644 ( 3.3 megapixels) 1024X822 ( 0.8 megapixels) I found that for live, smooth video recording (and for focusing), I needed to use the lowest resolution for quick moving subjects. For slower moving subjects, the 3.3mp resolution may work but will be jumpy. The highest resolution is great for still snapshots but responds too slowly over the USB-2 interface for smooth video. All in all, I'm glad I spent the extra $ for the 14-MP version. At first I thought that this and the 5-MP microscope were the same scope with a different camera but, after looking at the details, it appears that the controls and heft of this one is a notch above the less expensive (though I'm sure a good quality) 5 Megapixel CS-M83ES-C50U version. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the performance of this microscope. For the price, compared to other scopes with comparable features, I'd say it's a great value. ... show more

  • Great microscope and camera
For a cheaper microscope in contrast to the brand names, I’m very very impressed. It takes a second to play around with all of the settings to really focus on your object of interest, but it works fantastic. The camera has really great resolution, as seen in the pictures. The software is really cool and at no extra cost. I would recommend this microscope to anyone. ... show more

  • Outstanding product!
This is a great product .. while it was shipped in pieces, installation was intuitive and all parts fit well. Attachment of the camera to computer could not be easier. I use a MacAir and photos are clear and instantly accessible. I can save photos for later reference to species instead of preparing another microscope slide of moss leaves. And customer support is outstanding. Charlie walked me through what seemed to be a problem with the light not working .. after many, many minutes where I changed the fuses, changed the power cord, I discovered the fault was entirely mine — I had not firmly installed the power cord to the microscope .. duh .. feeling really foolish. The online manual for the camera is useless, especially for a Mac without a CD player. But once again, Elizabeth, online chat room, walked me through a very simple installation and instantly answered all questions. I highly recommend this product .. the optics are just as good as any I have used in university settings, and the price is affordable on a budget. Photos are of moss leaves (first two) and peristome teeth of a capsule ... show more

  • Received defective item
I had 2 issues with this microscope and a lot more issues with the return process. The binocular viewing was not aligned. There was no way to adjust it. Only the distance between the eyepieces was adjustable. I had to cross my eyes to align the image. Also, the lenses were dirty. I never hooked up the camera. I just returned it. Since I live outside the US, shipping it back was costly, as it is very heavy. It wasn't easy to get the vendor on the phone. Return was done through emails. It took about a month and I lost a significant amount of money. ... show more
