As an avid salmon angler, I highly recommend the Okuma Magda Pro Line Counter Levelwind Trolling Reel. This reel is a game-changer when it comes to trolling for salmon, and it has quickly become my go-to reel for this type of fishing. One of the best features of the Magda Pro is its line counter. This allows me to precisely target the depth where the salmon are feeding, which greatly increases my chances of landing a catch. The levelwind feature ensures that the line is evenly distributed across the spool, which minimizes tangles and makes reeling in fish much smoother and easier. The Magda Pro is also incredibly durable and well-made. Best part for me is the clicker. It is super loud. Have these mounted on all my trolling rods and couldn't be happier with them. Have used them quite a bit on the Great Lakes (Ontario & Erie), and have tackled everything from walleye to salmon and multiple species of trout with them. I'm not a charter capt, just a weekend warrior, so I'm not depending on these to earn a living (although I wouldn't be worried about using these even if I was). Overall these are great performing reels that have everything you need and nothing you don't. Could the line counter be better? Yes. But they still do the job. The drags work well and overall the reels seem durable and smooth performing. I see no need for a recreational fisher to shell out more money for higher priced reels. ... show more

These reels have held up well for the first year we have had the boat. They have seen multiple trips, use on planer boards, dipseys. Next season, will have two downriggers added to the boat, we'll see how these reels hold up to that. Hint: If you have help setting lines out, go back through and check the reels after setting the lines where wanted. If reel gets set to free spool and drag not set right after locking the lever, you'll unexpectedly be reeling off line till it's noticed. ... show more

    • Solid reel for someone who doesn’t wanna break the bank
This is a very nice reel for someone who doesn’t want to spend a lot of money. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now doing a lot of trolling with it using heavy lures and it has worked flawlessly. I expect for this unit to last for years to come.

I bought this reel for a cheap catfish rig I've been abusing for years. Right out of the box it "felt" a little cheap because it has a plastic/composite frame but it didn't seem flimsy or anything. I spooled it up and took it fishing the next day and it functioned equally as good as some other similar but more expensive reels I have. I like the line counter as well. Even though it's intended for trolling the counter makes gauging bait depth pretty simple. I'll probably buy another one! Great product for a great price. ... show more
