We just purchased a very large pot to cook French fries, and onion rings from scratch. This is something that we used to do when I was growing up so it really means a lot to be able to do this with my family that I created. So many wonderful memories. When you cook in oil, like for French fries, you don’t want to throw out the oil each time. This is just too expensive. The best thing to do is to strain your oil through the metal strainer that is included with this pot. Then you put the lid on until the next time that you will be cooking foods in hot oil. The 4 quart size means that it is big enough so that we can use it for big gatherings, or small gatherings. It doesn’t matter, this pot with the strainer and lid that fit’s snuggly tight. And I can tell you from experience, this is a great strainer, and oil/grease holder. It’s super easy to use, and super sturdy. Just what you need if its main purpose is to hold oil/grease. And to top it off, it looks nice. Not sloppy and like this was an afterthought. The price is incredibly fair. ... show more

Finally someone thought of this. I deep fry a lot by the hassle of balencing the strainer over the container to hold the used oil is a pain. especially if you also have to use a funnel. This has a built in strainer and you don't need a funnel. Easy to use, very sturdy, tight fitting lid, and it's a nice stainless steel. Happy! Happy! ... show more

UPDATE: Replacement for defective first attempt arrived and appears to be better made - no detached mesh. Container/Strainer works as you'd expect it to. Although, I wish the container were slightly larger since when we dump our fry tank oil pan into it, the strainer bottom touches the oil. Meaning, we have to hold the strainer above the oil to strain out the food bits while letting the oil drain from the strainer. Been watching for a product like this for a while since I've been making french fries from scratch for a couple decades. Should be much easier to strain out the solids vs using a hand-held strainer over whatever container. Immediately upon opening, this grease can appeared to be really solidly made, even having a bottom-weighted bias for extra stability. Unfortunately, I'll have to wait to try it out. The mesh/screen, right out of the box, is detached from its support ring. (see photos) Could not have been due to shipping damage since the strainer is shipped installed in the top of the very sturdy grease can, itself packaged inside bubble wrap. And the product box was undamaged and shipped inside another Amazon box. Per the Amazon app defective returns instructions, I first contacted the manufacturer (a 714 area code phone number, not a toll free number). They answered immediately but advised I needed to return the product to Amazon. Did that. ... and ordered a replacement, hoping my negative product quality experience was an exception. (Did not request a replacement as part of the returns process since the Amazon app did not explicitly state the defective return would be "free". "Free" because having to drive the return to a drop-off location is not truly "free".) Still, frustrating to have to go thru the return process. Will report back on the replacement product experience. (I paid full price for this item.) ... show more

This is a very nice grease strainer. The mesh strainer captures a lot of small solids from bacon grease and leaves the remaining grease pretty clear. There are smaller partials that continue to come through but they sink to the bottom leaving very usable grease on the top. It's a nice shiny container that's very easy to use. You just open the hinged lid, pour, allow straining and close the lid. I use it at least once a week and I am happy with the results. ... show more

This thing is heavy and built like a tank. I love it. It has a built-in screen that easily pops right out. I usually put a piece of paper towel in it and then when the grease cools down, I put it in there really shifting it not only from its own screen, but it has to go through the paper towel that catches pretty much everything to get you some pure oil back. I like that you can leave the screen in place and put the lid on and put it in your refrigerator. Very convenient you don’t lose the screen. I mean it doesn’t change any of the volume you can put in this thing. Very well made very good design. Definitely the way I store oil now to help preserve it and reuse. ... show more
