I love the idea of living off grid and after reading this book see it cannot just be dream. There is so much thought that must be put into living off grid. You can't just turn up and build a house in the mild of nowhere with no plan and no preparation. I loved the real-life stories. Do you know what a swale is? How about biomass? You are going to learn so much from this book. Knowledge is power! If you want to live off-grid, then this book can help. It's practical advice around water storage, power generation and waste management are well-covered in this book. I think it's so awesome that anyone wants to live this way! Most off-grid survival books presume you either have a) a lot of knowledge already, b) you live in a remote area and c) you have tons of land to cultivate. But some of us city dwellers want to learn to be energy independent too! Maybe we want to live this way more permanently because of high energy bills. Or maybe we want to just be prepared in case of a grid-down emergency. Even if we never intend to live entirely off-grid out in the middle of nowhere. This book is for us "normal" off-grid folks as well as those who want to really go for it full-time. I love that each element of off-grid survival necessities has steps and even a budget breakdown to help inform how you want to proceed. Everything is scalable so you can start small and build up over time. I've tried a few other off-grid books that were crap, but this was really helpful!
