I bought this to try to paint my metal curtain Grommet rings from silver to gold, but the paint slips around a little bit. I tested it on the back of the grommet and to be fair, I think I have the wrong tip for it. I checked it the next morning when sure it was dry and it definitely stuck but I think it would take a few coats to make it look opaque. I was trying to do the grommets while on the curtain, so it may be OK if you get a different tip. I had the like med soft felt tip and you probably need the wedge, but I think you’d have to take the grommets off, which is what I was trying not to do. I did, however use it as a guilded look on some wood furniture in an small arched inlay and that worked pretty well. I think you need to put on a thin layer first , let it dry completely - and then put on another coat as if you continue to put layer s over the wet paint, you can spread the paint around a little, leaving it un even and looking bare in some places. The colors more of an antique brassy gold than bright gold and it’s a little more matte than gloss, more like a satin look. But for the price point for oil bases two markers, you can’t beat this the price which is almost 1/3 of the price for others oil based and I doubt they do any better job.- but have not tried any others either. You could use these for many projects as they also have other tips that you could order. I actually did not notice that when I bought or I would’ve ordered the wedge. Overall, I would recommend these pens, but choose the appropriate tip and consider you may have two or three coats on metal.

The gold color of the ink is rich and dries to a dull gold, not a shiny gold. The ink dries quickly and stays on. The tip of pen was medium and the nub smashed flat as I started using it. One has to tap down hard to get ink, the tip of first pen broke and I cleaned it and inserted back. I used a second pen but the nub smooshed down very quickly. To be fair, I was using this gold ink pen to refresh the gold on a very old jewelry box, the surface was old leather. This was a restore project and was not using the ink pen on a new project. It could be that these gold pens will work on another type of material. I had ordered two packs and decided there was no way to use it so I have asked for a return. Conclusion, I like the ink itself but the pen was not adequate for the value paid, at least for my jewelry box restore. I may end up using gold leaf and a brush for my project.
