  • It goes pretty smoothly. Choosing a 32GB RAM machine is for ...
[UPDATE: 4 months in use] it's been 4 months since I purchased and started using this machine on a daily basis. In general it's really performant due its high specs, great things is I don't have to worry about opening too many workspaces or downloading too many files as the storage and memory space are huge. one issue I have is its battery life is not as good as I would wished. my usual workload are not really heavy: <5 terminals, many many browser tabs ( I find firefox eats up quite a lot of battery), code editors always on, sometimes Spotify playing. And on average, the battery life is only around 5 hours. which is definitely not able to carry me through the day without packing the heavy as hell charger. Still, I quite enjoy Lenovo's keyboard as always, the overall experience still deserves a >4.5 review, considering its spec and price. ------------------------------------- [ORIGINAL REVIEW] I bought a P51 with 32GB of RAM, 1TB of SSD. Currently been using for couple of days, it runs blazing fast, if anything is wrong, it's usually because my network is not fast enough or the quality of the video itself is way lower than 4K. I couldn't find anything to complain about this machine. It is A POWERHOUSE! (way more cost effective than a Macbook Pro, and hopefully more durable based on Lenovo's historical high standard) I'm a developer, and dual booted Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Win10. It goes pretty smoothly. Choosing a 32GB RAM machine is for potential multiple virtual machine instances for penetration testing. I haven't have a chance to tested it, maybe will update my review later. As usual, I absolutely love the keyboard, it may sound weird, but I found it addictive to type... So once again, ultrafast high spec machine, more portable than I expected (was thinking of Alienware kind of weight ), breathtaking 4K display, mediocre sound, really really impressive cooling system with nearly unnoticeable noise. Plus, I love ports... (sry Apple fans) Battery life wise, still need more time to tell, but currently performing consistently at 8hr under usual workload (some YouTube, mostly web browsing, and mostly code editor activity.) In general, really satisfied! ... show more

  • I'm glad I made the leap after a lot of research and deliberation.
Capacity: i7-1165G7 | 40GB | 512GB NVMe
When I had to face the reality that it was time to shop for a new laptop, the options were overwhelming. I knew it would be overkill to buy a top-of-the-line unit that was upwards of $2K, but I also wanted to steer clear of any budget laptops that would just be a source of frustration after 18 months. ThinkPads seemed like a good option, but Lenovo has been all over the place with naming and numbering conventions. I finally zeroed in on the P15s, which is often overlooked in favor of the E series and other lines. My only reservation was that one professional review of the laptop said the display was terrible. I can say after getting my P15s that that review was melodramatic. If you're constantly doing animation or digital arts, sure, you might be disappointed with this laptop's display. But, honestly, had I not been primed to look for any definition or brightness issues, I doubt I would have ever noticed them. Essentially all they amount to is that some blues will appear slightly washed out compared to the way they'd look on a top-of-the-line machine. (I have a high-end Dell from my workplace that I can use for comparison.) If you're mainly looking for a business or school computer, this is a solid machine—fast and free of glitches. The audio is great, and (contrary to the aforementioned review) the display is definitely adequate in quality. Another nice thing is that if you buy this from OEM (via Amazon), they can ship it to an Amazon Locker so that you don't have to worry about porch theft. ... show more

  • Lenovo Good/OEMGenuine not so much
Good computer. Just go to Lenovo's site. These people mean well, but you will go through unnecessary lengths to get any warranty done.

  • Great Laptop
Capacity: i7-1165G7 | 40GB | 1TB NVMe
Great laptop for those who are doing more than just basic office & web-surfing. Very fast and the memory expandability is great. Lenovo has always built a tough laptop. I am very happy with the laptop itself. Side note: if you get a Thunderbolt Docking station --make sure the firmware is updated -- the older Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 dock seem their dock has networking issues -- for instance I cannot see my NAS using the thunderbolt dock's network adapter .. MS blames Lenovo and vice-versa ... show more

  • So far so great (day 3)
UPDATE after 6-months: Inbuilt webcam has stopped working and appears to be hardware issue. Happy to report that my P15 Gen 1 is out of the box, plugged in and working just fine on day 3. OEM appear to have done a great job of switching out the standard RAM and inserting 64GB. But it's very early days -- too early to say much more as I'm hoping that opting for this over one of the slimmer Lenovo laptops will mean it's that little bit less likely to have any issues (not that I had many with my old T15 tbf, but being cautious). Happy also to have discovered Lenovo Vantage and found the battery threshold setting option so that I can hopefully prolong the battery lifespan a bit by not having it maintain a 100% charge but rather one around 75% (apparently 40-50% is optimum). ... show more
