Great universal kit. Now I will say because it is a kit that fits many different bikes and not every frame is the same you will need to mount the lever and calipers on first then route the cable to finally cut the brake cable and sheathing to fit. Other wise perfect stops on a dime.

Brilliant and effective, stops on a dime. Has everything you need to hook it up, just have your tools ready. Installation was a piece of cake because the arms are held open via spring, making the tension easy to adjust -- no spring bolts necessary. This saves like half the work. The pads are interesting, they're fat and short but sleek and mean business. The pads are also designed so that they toe-in properly -- there's even an arrow printed on the brake pad to help you point it in the right direction. I removed the brakes from my BMX when I first got it but then decided that I would like to run brakes again. This kit was the most reasonably priced one from a reputable company so I figured I would give it a go. Installing these was a breeze and they come with absolutely everything you need. This is great because you don't have to buy cables separately. The brakes feel good with the compression-less housing. This helps stiffen up the cabling so it is a lot firmer than a normal brake. As far as braking performance it will stop you and doesn't squeal excessively however they are definitely not strong enough with the stock pads for brake tricks however I'm sure some better pads would help that. Overall for the price they are a good set of brakes just don't expect them to stop on a dime. ... show more

    • Great upgrade for big-box bmx bikes
Bought a Mongoose bike for my son that had the worst brakes but otherwise a pretty cool bike for the $$. These are great quality and could not have been easier to install if you've ever worked on your own bikes before. If you haven't, get your local bike shop to put them on or look up one of the many videos on how to install BMX brakes. Came with everything I needed and only required some basic tools - would have been a bit better if I'd had a proper cable cutter but basic wire cutters worked well enough. Brakes work 100% better than originals and the lever is way easier for my little guy to pull. ... show more

I have a Spitfire BMX bike and this set up was super easy to install and the cables are easily cut to length to match the bike. Comes with caps for the sleeve and cable that are easily crimped to create a clean factory look. Brakes are spring loaded so are super smooth and retract when you release the lever. Does not come with and adjustment screw for the frame, but is not a deal breaker for me. Would recommend to anyone. ... show more

    • Great Brakes for BMX
Bought this brake set for my 20" bmx and installed it myself. So far it works great. I do rear wheel tricks on coping and I haven't experienced any slipping. Setup was typical of any u-brake, taking a little technique to get it right, especially aligning the pads to the rim (tightening the pad to the brake arm will twist the pad position). I think most brakes have this quirk though, it just takes some technique. They will squeal like crazy if you put the pads on in the wrong direction. The correct direction is written on the side of each pad, just make sure you get that right if you put them on yourself or they will drive you crazy. That being said, if you brake while moving fakie (backwards) they will still squeal. Great brakes though especially for the price. Brake lever is good too. Cheap aluminum on the adjustment barrel at the lever. Once it was ready to be tuned, that barrel adjuster was just stripped. The brake arms rub so bad. I can't get them to space evenly or pull evenly with out them rubbing on each other and making things impossible. Don't buy this. They responded asking I send the product back with original packaging which I did not have. I informed them of that and I got this reaponse. "Good afternoon, We thank you for your order. From your original return reason this item is not defective. It sounds like this was not installed correctly and was damaged in trying to install yourself. If you had read the warning information that came with your brake set. The first line states: This Product Must be Installed by a Professional Bicycle Mechanic. If it is defective the manufacture of this item takes care of all warranty and defects. You may want to take the brake and your bike to a bike shop to have them install correctly. Parts are available if something is not usable. You can return but we will have to deduct cost or what we need to do to put it back into new condition. I have attached the warning that came with the brake set. Thanks" I worked at Cyclery USA in Rancho Cucamonga for 1.5 years about 6 years back, I have a pretty good idea about how to go about repairing and tuning a bike. I felt I would be pretty qualified to install a simple u brake. But there is only so much I can do if the product itself won't work. Thanks for nothing USbikebargains ... show more

    • Parts missing. Picture is inaccurate.
It’s a great set of brakes. But, the picture makes it look like it comes with the small round bead at the end so that you can use on your gyro. It does not. You have to order an entirely different cable to use this with the London adapter. Also, it does. Or come with enough parts to use it as a front brake. It does not come with the barrel adjustment adapter. You have to order that directly from Odyssey or an online bike parts store. The adapter only cost around $3, but it’s a real inconvenience when you realize you’re missing parts and have to order and wait for days for it to come in. Also, there is no front brake instructions at all, anywhere! Not even on the odyssey website. So you waste time doing research to find out that you’re missing the adapter. ... show more
