  • It's beautiful.
I won't lie. I LOVE carbon fiber as a material. There aren't many materials that can match its performance in so many categories. This paddle is a work of carbon fiber art. From the sculpt of the blades to the weave on the shafts to the gloss of the resin, I would almost rather stick it on the wall than put it in the water. And I'm not kidding about that. It's beautiful. If you come in, and catch me putting a coat of car wax on it or buffing it with a microfiber cloth, don't say I didn't warn you that I'm partial to carbon fiber. I suppose that I would have rather seen an aluminum clamp (or even carbon fiber) to hold it together, but the glass-filled nylon seems well made, and I'm also rather fond of glass-filled nylon as a material, having used it for years. It serves as the material of choice for some very high stress applications, such as the suspension arms and gears of many hobby-grade radio controlled cars. So it's not just some cheap plastic, filled nylons are VERY tough plastics, almost impossible to break if made correctly. So I'm not THAT disappointed in the "plastic" clamp, but aluminum sure would have been "nicer". And as a side note, the case/bag/whatever it comes with, is great. It comes with enough room for 2 paddles (in case you add another), and is very well made. It also comes with a very decent quality paddle leash. Small touches like a carry case and a paddle leash might not seem like much, but I think it adds a significant value. You NEED a leash, so it's one less thing you have to buy, and what are you going to do with your beautiful, glossy carbon fiber paddle when you're not using it? Toss it on the floor in the garage? HECK no. You're going to put it in its nice carry bag and stick it in a safe spot. The fact they give such decent accessories with a fantastic paddle means you're getting a lot of value here, in my book. It's fantastic. For the price, I don't think it can be beat, and was VERY impressed. 5 stars. ... show more

  • Carbon fiber at a discount
Good luck getting carbon fiber at this price. It's a somewhat pricy material, but manufacturers are getting better at delivering them more cheaply, in some countries at least... It comes in a padded bag. I'm not sure I'll ever use it, but it's a nice bag, and some people will find it useful for sure. Unlike most fiberglass/aluminum paddles, which use a push-button lock with a few set positions to set your width and angle, this one has a friction-fit collar that you can tighten. I imagine overtightening it could be dangerous, but it also feels slightly flimsy. I haven't gotten it out on the water yet, but I don't think there will be a lot of torque applied that will test it. I could be wrong though. Will update. ... show more
