I'm not one to regularly leave product reviews - mainly because most of what I've purchased on Amazon are books, and I really think that's up to each reader. But I AM going to leave feedback on this BACKREST. Background: I have a "bad back" (congenital defect where there is very little room up the center of the vertebrae for the spinal cord. I had a slipped disc at L4-L5 about 20 years ago (chiro), the onset of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome throughout my IT career (chiro), a whiplash at C4-C5 in a head on collision (chiro), a complete "blowout" of my L4-L5 that had me on the floor screaming for 911 which involved morphine and carrying me on a board to the ambulance for an emergency fusion of my L4-L5 (neurosurgeon, titanium plate), and NOW, my C4-C5 (never healed properly), after trying EVERYTHING with my great chiropractor, had an MRI and the vertebrae are damaging my spinal cord, causing my entire right arm to go numb if I hold it above waist level for any length of time. So I will have my SECOND back surgery December 21st, 2010 (ho ho ho...). SOOOO... I have been around the block with back/neck pain. I have tried too many chairs to mention. NONE ever were "right." My last chair (executive leather) was HORRID once I sat in front of my Mac with it, and went to Salvation Army. My "new" chair is "okay," but I just didn't have the support I needed to sit in it for long hours in front of the computer and it caused middle back pain (which is ACTUALLY what got me seeing my chiro again - it was after a period of adjustments that the C4-C5 problem became apparent). I bought a "chiro Backrest" (The Ultimate? - a Canadian company) from his office, but that was useless - no support at all. I was reluctant to give this Backrest a try - but I'm not about to sell my Mac Pro and just use my laptop because of my back. So I gave this a try. THIS is the "Ultimate" (if there ever was one)! It COMPLETELY supports you. I use it without the lumbar pad, but I can see how someone who hasn't been operated on there may need that support. It's Velcro, so you can put it EXACTLY where you need it. The Backrest is awesome and fits like a glove. I have a tendency (the neck) to lean a bit forward, so I added what is actually a "lumbar roll" support around the top of this Backrest for my neck and it works like a charm. I have only positive things to say about this product. If I were you, I would buy THIS ONE, and have a happy back. I may get one for my car. The company is 5 STAR all the way; ships fast, great product at a MUCH LOWER price than most "ergo gear," and I've talked with them on the phone (number is in their Amazon profile) and they are SO customer-oriented! So, there's my "two cents," from someone who NEEDED this Backrest, and I am hoping this review will be able to help others like me (even if you have a GOOD back - if you want comfort and TAKE CARE of your back - buy this).

I have been trying to figure out how to make this bike seat more comfortable for the last 2 years. It just has no low back support, and as it's a slingback seat, it also causes me upper back pain because it puts me in a slouchy position while I'm trying to steer the bike. This seat back has a hard plastic core so it is very rigid in frame, but it has a nice amount of padding, so it is very comfortable. I use the extra lumbar cushion to support my neck, as it velcros on anywhere so you can move it around wherever you want. I think I'm going to get another one for my mom's wheelchair. It also is very comfortable on the couch. It's just incredibly versatile.

This back support looks and works much nicer than the low back and neck pillow that I had before. Good long solid piece. My only complaint is that it SMELLS SO BAD. Its been over a week now and the smell is still strong. It straight up smells like cat urine mixed with checmicals. I keep getting strong whiffs of it and its giving me a headache. Such a big bummer. I hope it goes away soon. I wish they wouldn't use such cheap chemicals for something you sit so close to. Ive never smelled an off-gas smell as rancid as this. If it doesnt go away soon I will return it.

I bought this product because I had a severe neck strain from a very long drive and had a trip planned to the N.H.White Mountains in August for the annual" White Mountain Boogie and Blues Festival" a three day Blues fest and desperately needed support for the head and neck so I could enjoy this time! Wow! this was exactly what fit the product description! Highly recommend this product!

I bought this based on the measurements it that it shows 15.5 inches in the picture as the width which would fit my work chair. Well, it measured almost 20 and did not fit my work chair. It is quite stiff and I could not fit it to my chair. I can't speak to comfort or pain relief but I am now in more pain as I had to drag this box back to UPS to return because of the inaccurate measurement description.

I bought this with high expectations to have neck support in my office chair, but was disappointed in several ways. CONS: [] Very expensive for such cheap fabric that is supposed to be removable, but does not slide on an off well. They "solved" this by putting a cheap plastic bag over the foam. [] The foam was torn and damaged underneath the cover. [] The Velcro that holds neck support (in picture it is a lumbar?) is way cheap and doesn't stay on well. [] The sides are narrow and not comfortable. Pros: [] I was able to return this.

I used to have one years ago for a full back office chair and it helped me avoid back pain fir the years it was used. Since, I have a new job with different chairs. The new chairs have only half back and no neck support. I was nervous to get this in case it didn't fit, but I dont know what took me so long after taking the plunge. It's everything I needed. Built in lumbar support with added neck support. It's soft, easy to use, not bulky and has no weird odors. Very happy with my purchase and will hold on to this for all future back rest needs!

I'm a 30+ year massage therapist working with all kind of folks with challenging issues, and I'm got some challenges of my own. I'd seen this years ago, thinking of my ageing parents.... looked around at other similar products offered... and this is the best I've found... I finally brought it for myself to add support for my sitting parts of my life and I'm very happy with it. My only problem is that I have to move it from one chair to another and thinking of buying a second one. Highly recommend...
