Description

Ever since we built our first ski, it has been our mission to create products that maximize fun on the water. Our passion for watersports has revolutionized all facets of the watersports industry: waterskis, wakeboards, wakesurf boards, SUPs, tubes and life jackets. Countless hours are spent designing, testing and perfecting each product to meet your needs and those of our athletes. Because of this, we know that you will love O’Brien products just as much as we do. The O’Brien Impulse is a comfortable, neo-syle life jacket that will have you loving your time on the water. The BioLite outer material is lightweight and adds breathability for faster drying, makes it lighter and still provides exceptional comfort. Segmented panels and wide armholes maximize your range of motion, while the front zipper and two adjustable belts dial in that snug fit to keep you safe on the water. *See size chart for your measurements. Neo style life jackets are designed to stretch and provide a snug fit. Before using the life jacket try it on (zip it up, buckle the belts and cinch them down) and test to make sure it fits properly. Pull up on the shoulders of the life jacket and if it slides up to your chin or ears then the life jacket is too large and you'll need to go with a smaller size. It’s important to note that your ideal life jacket size may not be the same as your favorite t-shirt. Take the time to measure your chest circumference and use this sizing guide to find the O’Brien life jacket size that should work best for you. Use a tape measure to accurately determine your chest circumference. While keeping your arms down by your side, measure around your upper body, under your armpits and over the fullest part of your chest and shoulder blades.

  • READ measuring Instructions, measure and match it with the brands chart!
Size: Medium
Originally I ordered the same size that my old Casad Neo Vest was purchased nearly 20 years ago. I am 5' 3", short waisted, have broad shoulders for my size/figure which is 39/25/35, bra size 32 DD. Becasuse my old vest still fits I figured a small or extra small (same size as old vest) surely would fit in a new more modern vest. So I ordered a small and extra small. When it came I was simply agast at how tiny they were. Frustrated I started to read comments on almost all the brands of vests. After MUCH research all I read was more confusion on the fitting process than I. ..."size up", "size down", too small, to large, rides up, my 8 year old cant zip it up.... on an on. Well something obviously has drastically has changed with PFD design and measuring... ..obviously! WOULD I ever find a vest that ACTUALLY fit me? Then something dawned on me. What others said really made no difference! Instructions from the manufacture was the key. When I was a freshman at USC, I was in the purser's office because I was bewildered as to where I was supposed to go. I had what seemed to be a complicated schedule I couldnt understand even though the instructions on how to read the schedule was right there on the schedule! Almost in tears over my days frustration I looked up, and on the wall behind the clerk was a big ol' sign that stated... "When in DOUBT, read the instructions". I chuckled to myself, exceted that long line, sat down, read the instructions and off I went. So with this PFD deal.... I re-read the instructions on how to order the correct size vest. I actually got my tape measure out, had a friend help with the measuring. Even though I only weigh 104lbs, my chest size is 39". Looking at the chart I could hardly believe that I needed to order a Medium. After all my chest measurements are the same as 20 years ago when I bought the Casad Neo Vest and it is an extra SMALL still fitting fine, crushed but fine. So I followed the chart, ordered the Medium and it fits like a charm. This vest is attractive and shaped a bit more like the old style vests (anyone who skied 20 years ago before they changed the type of foam, the positioning and blocking of that new puffy foam knows what I mean.) The vests were smooth in front and back. Small was small and extra large was extra large. In those days you did not look like a circus marshmellow as you do now due to the new fluffly foam positioned mostly in the front, barely nothing in the back. This vest fits like a charm and the most rediculous part is that by following the chartsame for all 4 different brands, all but Body Glove (which was defiantly larger than the others I ordered even though it too was a size 38-40. I found 3 out of 4 vests that fit reasonably simular by following THEIR charts regardless of the "size"s-m-l etc... that didn't matter. The size 38-40 was the key. It looks FANTASTIC! DOES NOT RIDE UP, is tight, very tight so it will work as it is suppose to when I am in the water. The point of a vest is not just to keep your nose and mouth above the water line but stay on top of the water, keep your chest well above the waterline. Fit correctly, and that means tight but not to the point of a potentially collapsed lung. I can safely say that if you are realistic and actually follow the chart with your REAL measurements, not what you think are your measurements, you will not need to "size up" or "size down". It will then just become a matter of what you want your vest to look like on you. I wanted, simple, princess lines without all that puff in the front, and that is exactly what this vest looks like. The straps can give even more customization. Follow the instructions on how to measure, measure correctly, match up the chart with what ever "size" that ends up being....and order it. I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND A VEST THAT FIRS ON THE FIRST TRY. This holds true with probably all the vests here on Amazon. ... show more

  • Order up one size
Size: Medium
I read all the reviews and decided to order up one size to a medium. I weigh 128 lbs and I am 5'1" with a 36D bust and wear a size small in t-shirts and tops, but the medium was a win. The adjustable straps let you tighten the waist area for a perfect fit. It is a little thicker than a lot of vest, but it lets you move easy on a jet ski with no binding and there is plenty of room for your arms to move freely without any rubbing. I love the color too and it has an "O" ring on the front to connect your jet ski key. It is made very well and very comfortable, you forget you even have it on. ... show more

  • Awesome!
Size: Large
I still don’t know how to swim. Well, I have been practicing but still can’t float on my stomach. And I still have a fear of the water. I had to go to an indoor waterpark so I decided to just be safe and look for a life vest, even if I am a woman nearing my 40’s. I decided the embarrassment is better than the risk of drowning. Anyway, getting to the product at hand; it is awesome! High quality and stylish. It really helped me float!! It gave me a chance to finally practice swimming in a wave pool. I was starting to develop a little more confidence in the water. I definitely need more time in the water but it was a good start. I ordered a size L and I am 160 pounds and 5 feet 1 inch. It fit perfect and you can adjust the straps. Really awesome product, worth the price and I definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Great jacket! They’re supposed to fit tight!
Size: Small
I am 5’4” and 127lbs 34D. Bought the size small - fits PERFECTLY. That being said, I’ve been waterskiing since I was 8 and I still wakeboard 30 years later - I like my jackets tight before I get in the water because if they’re not, they will shift up and get obnoxiously in your chin/neck space once you’re in the water. Neoprene jackets SHOULD fit tight before you’re in the water. They expand a little when you get them wet. They should not start to shift up on your body when you’re in the water. If they ride up to your chin when you get in the water, they’re not the right size. If you’re just going fishing or something, I wouldn’t buy a neoprene vest. They’re hot when not wet and there are vests out there with mesh backs to keep you cool. This type of jacket is best for boating or kayaking or playing in the water... something where you are actually in water. If you’re buying it to be IN the water, stick with their sizing, it is correct. Like this jacket: low profile foam, looks like it’s made well, comfortable tight fit that had good spacing for my girls....wasn’t too tight across them. (That being said, after I zipped and buckled I did tug the bottom to get everything in the right spot) we’ll see how it goes once I’m in the water. If my opinion doesn’t change, I won’t update. ... show more

  • Beautiful life vest, seems true to size
Size: X-Large
Ok,so after reading the other reviews,MANY of them said to size up 1 or 2 sizes! I'm between a medium and a large so if this was on the smaller size,I went with an extra large. Well the extra large was WAY too big. Based off of how big it was a went with a medium. The medium fits perfect. So for me, I'd say these run probably true to size. It's a beautiful life vest and it seems like good quality. Due to having to order a new size,I wasn't able to test it out on the lake today so that's why I gave 4 stars. ... show more

  • Perfect fit for ladies in size and length
Size: Medium
Perfect fit! So important to get a ladies vest, it allows for chest to fit without squashing and it’s cut shorter so sitting on the ski is comfortable! Love this vest! Best one I’ve had! The unisex ones are always too long and bulky and squash the boobs! If you need a life vest for water sports I highly recommend this one! ... show more

  • Doesn’t ride up when wearing
Size: Medium
Great , I’m teaching an adult how to swim it fit her perfectly, and she was able to move very well with full confidence of staying afloat. Check sizing for accuracy in fit.

Size: Small
I haven't taken mine to the lake yet but I want to write a review to help with the sizing issue. With lots of RUNS SMALL and lots of JUST RIGHT reviews, which is it? I say JUST RIGHT if you do water sports and actually get in the water and don't like your life jacket up around your ears and pressuring your arm pits. RUNS SMALL if you want to wear it comfortably on a boat or canoe and just want safety in case you fall in. I am 5'4", 135 lbs and somewhat lightly endowed. I bought a medium and it is very snug but fits properly in my opinion because I wear my for active sports and can't have it riding up. The fabric and design are excellent and it seems very durable. I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more
