The media could not be loaded. I have been excited about trying this product for a long time and have been waiting for it to arrive on Amazon… the primary positives are a decent thermal contrast and clarity — don’t expect any 1080p, that’s just not how budget thermal sensors work — but comparatively, it’s a decent thermal image. The little 300 dollar Topdong (or whatever it’s called) thermal cam for my iPhone looks better but I understand it’s a different product meant for different situations. Installation is simple even for an inexperienced user. The software also has a decent amount of options which I appreciate… although I’d say that some of them are not well implemented, ie, the fusion mode is unusable, and if you want to try and run both visible light AND thermal, it cuts the FOV down even further, rather than scaling down to fit the screen. Which leads me to my primary complaint… the thermal mode has a very limited FOV (field of view)… I wasn’t expecting a GoPro style fisheye lens, but this isn’t even a 35mm standard FOV, it’s narrowed down to where it feels like looking through a paper towel roll. This is okay for seeing 50 meters down the highway, but anything in close proximity to the vehicle is blind. If there’s a deer or pedestrian off to the side of the road 25 feet away, you won’t see it. Furthermore, the frame rate bogs down and lags regularly, and no it wasn’t overheating, I mounted the receiver/screen on my AC vent keeping it well cooled. Camera may have been getting hot, not sure how much that affects it the frames. The camera itself is a big large and clunky, don’t expect to be able to hide it behind your front grill like some other options. The camera itself comes with double sided tape as its primary mounting point, which is not ideal, as it removes the ability to remove it if you are parking somewhere sketchy overnight. It does have a magnet, but the magnet is too weak to hold the camera by itself at highway speeds. I 3D scanned the housing, designed and 3D printed my own housing that included a larger base with the space for a large magnet that firmly held the camera in place. It seems that this could have been achieved by the company while still easily within profitable pricing. Which is my final point. The price point is simply too much for what you get. They’ve increased the price significantly since I purchase this item a few weeks ago, and now I wouldn’t even consider trying this camera for the price. Be forewarned though, there are less expensive options on Amazon that have better FOV and better installation options, but I am going to return the second one I got as well, as it had problems of its own (although I will say I liked the second choice better than this one). I think this is a fairly new product for the market and it will take a year or two before they work out bugs and competition drives the price down.
