  • Had to buy the 2” topper before the bed was comfortable.
Size: Full Style: 8" Foam
I’ve seen reviews here where heavy people say this mattress is way too soft. For skinny people it’s way too hard. The firm base layer of foam doesn’t compress when I’m laying down with my 118 lbs spread out across the mattress and it was killing my rib cage to sleep on my side. It only has 2” of soft foam which I’d sink down through and then my ribs or other bony parts would feel the super hard base foam and it wouldn’t give a bit. It was very uncomfortable. I bought Tuft and Needle’s way overpriced 2” topper when it was on sale for $199 and it did make all the difference in the world. I would have bought a cheaper memory foam topper but that would negate the benefit of the adaptive foam. I think this bed needs a third foam layer under the soft layer with a transitional foam or they just need to offer one with a 3” soft foam layer. I hate that I had to spend so much on the topper just to make this mattress bearable to sleep on. Your mileage may vary on this mattress. I can see how it’s softer for heavier people. If I stand on it the base layer compresses a lot and doesn’t feel hard. But when I spread my weight out laying down the base barely has any give at all and it’s downright hard. I’m really skinny though, like I look like I was just rescued from a concentration camp skinny. It’s cancer. I’m I think 118 lbs. today. I’m skin and bones. Most all my fat and muscles have wasted away. I have no built in padding. Pancreatic cancer is very painful at the stage I’m in and I have a back injury on top of that so I don’t need the pain this rock hard mattress was giving me before I got the topper, but these variables in my condition might make me a little extra sensitive to pain. Your milage may vary. Maybe it would be fine without the topper if you aren’t extra skinny and bony. Edit: Now I’m 115 lbs and just found out yesterday that I fractured my spine when I hurt it and I also have cancer in my spine and my liver and my lungs in addition to my pancreas and all the lymph nodes in my mid section. No bed is going to be all that comfortable for me. So when I complain about how comfortable this bed is take it with a major grain of salt. I do like the mattress I share with my wife much better, but it cost more than ten times as much as this bed in a box. I ought to be a lot more comfortable. I’m probably stopping Chemo because it’s not working anymore and I won’t really need to sleep in the bed with the Tuft and Needle mattress much anymore unless I’m wide awake and watching videos and don’t want to keep my overworked nurse wife awake. ... show more

  • back relief!!!!!!
Size: Queen Style: 8" Foam
for three years i had a cheaper, good quality mattress but it was just way too firm for me. it wouldn't give at all, so i put a topper on. cue the start of back problems! those toppers are incredibly comfortable but over time they really do put so much stress on your back and hips. i would wake up in pain every day and it would be so difficult to get out of bed. this tuft & needle mattress is game changing!! it's the perfect level of firmness where you don't sink into the bed, you can still get out of bed, but it's still comfortable and provides the best level of support. it's only been two nights but i can already feel such a huge difference in my sleep quality and restfulness. ... show more

  • Pretty good
Size: Twin Style: 8" Foam
Expanded to exactly 8 inches. Smell was gone in a day. Moderately soft for a medium firm, perhaps a touch softer than I'd want, but still pretty supportive for an inexpensive all-foam mattress. Sleeps neutral - not particularly cool, but not uncomfortably warm either. Bought it for a child's bed.

  • 1.5 year later review.
Size: King Style: 8" Foam
I have had this 8” mod mattress for a year and a half now. I absolutely love it! I have never had another mattress I’ve liked better. I used to buy $1000+ mattresses from mattress firm and other stores. This was my first time ordering a “bed in a box.” I ordered a couple different ones off amazon and liked this one the best. Amazon was great with retuning the others that didn’t work. I got the king size nod and it is true to size and height. When you first get it, it takes a while to expand to it’s full size. After a year and a half it is as good as new and still feels and looks the same. There’s NO weird indentions or what my husband and I jokingly call “ditches” lol. In other words the original form is in no way compromised after using it every night for a year and a half. Both my husband and I love it. It’s a medium firmness in my opinion. My husband likes a soft bed and I like a firm bed, this was a happy medium. When you lay down it has a little give, but not too much. I have horrible back problems and I sleep so much better on this mattress than I have on any $1000+ serta or what have you. Once upon a time I had a tempurpedic, it was way too hot! This Nod mattress is NOT hot in my experience. Even when I was pregnant and had hormonal sweating this did not make me hot. I’m a very hot natured person too so it’s very important to me that my mattress doesn’t add to that problem! With other memory foam mattresses I’ve had, I had to even change clothes during the night, not fun!! I definitely think the comfort and quality of this mattress is comparable to other high quality expensive memory foam mattresses, if not better! Like I mentioned I had to give away the tempurpedic (spelling?) due to it being way too hot! I would highly recommend this mattress to anyone really. I think it accommodates a lot of people due to its adaptive nature and medium feel. I think a medium firmness suits many different people and situations. It’s definitely not in any way a hard bed so if you are used to a soft bed, don’t let the word medium firmness scare you! I can sleep on a more firm bed (due to my back issues) but this works fine for me even though it’s a little softer! I am a stomach sleeper and my husband is a side and back sleeper. It works well for both of us. He is 220lbs and I am 130lbs and we both love it. It’s not easy to find a good bed for a stomach sleeper but this one is a winner! I would definitely recommend this to pregnant ladies, or hot sleepers as well! I also think this would work great for a child, toddler or guest bedroom as well. It’s sure to suit any guest who would come to stay over! Our kids love the bed as well. We eventually are going to order nod beds for their rooms. Oh and also if anyone was wondering I 100% purchased this mattress with MY OWN money and no I am not getting paid for this review or any other type or compensation! This is an honest review of someone who spent their hard earned money on this bed! My father is actually buying one for himself for Christmas because he loves our bed so much! He has lupus and is in the market for a bed that will make him very comfortable! Good luck and remember if it doesn’t work out amazon prime is really easy to return it! Just leave the bed outside your door and they come and get it! I hope my review was helpful to someone out there. I know ordering a bed online is hard. Look up some YouTube reviews, they really help! ... show more

  • I sleep better
Size: Twin Style: 10" Hybrid
I have low back pain ,spinal stenosis and trochanteric bursitis. I shift from side to side to relieve pain of trochanteric bursitis which is aggrevated by side sleeping since I can't sleep well on my back due to my spinal stenosis. This mattress helps but does not totally relieve my side sleeping lateral hip pain from the trochanteric burstis at least compared to my older traditional innerspring mattress. It is probably from the memory foam top layer. I am a hot sleeper but this mattress has not really aggrevated this. I do sink down in it more than other other innerspring mattress. I weigh 210 lbs. My wife thinks mattress feels too firm. I do not. Probably good deal for the price. ... show more
