  • Quiet high performance server
It's been running non stop for 4 years so I'll write a review now... First it cooled a 5700g, and more recently a 5950x swapped in. It's running perfectly fine and makes little noise. I blow the dust off of it once a month or so when I start hearing the fans. The machine is running 24/7 with no downtime except for the CPU swaps. I do have the extra fan installed and fan curves optimized for silence. 5950x is at 45c idle, 55c nominal load, 61c medium and 78c max load. I really like the large sweeping fans blowing over and keeping the vrm components cool. The air flow also cools the ram. The new peerless assassin is supposedly better but I bought this in 2021 and I'll happily buy another if need be. This machine does a lot of work for me. ... show more

  • One of the best low-noise coolers on the market
They are large, but they are great and one of the quietest cooler fans you'll find. Comes with an adapter cable which can throttle the fan speed. The oversized 140mm fan means lower RPM needed to move the same amount of air. Love that Noctua finally released a black version instead of their standard... let's just say "interesting" color palette. No annoying RGB lights either, which is a plus. This cooling tower is asymmetrical, and depending on your case layout you can re-orient it so the fins are further away from the video card potentially making it a little easier to navigate around it. It also has more clearance at the bottom than many of its competitors, so there were zero problems accessing the RAM modules with the cooler in place. Noctua has been my go-to brand for CPU coolers for 15+ years now, and this model is another win. ... show more

  • Replaced an old AIO cooler from Thermaltake. Super quiet and running at 38 now
Let me start out by saying this cooler was going into an existing build, not a new build. I had a two year old Thermaltake AIO that was failing miserably and making a lot of noise. You could hear the pump whining and the line into the radiator was burning hot and clearly not cooling correctly. Luckily I had some RGB set up in my case and I always keep it set to monitor the temperature of the CPU. Green=good, Red=bad. I noticed when I was playing games like Red Dead Redemption 2 it was turning Red and eventually it just stayed there as the AIO got worse. Eventually my PC did shut down because of the CPU overheating. That was enough for me to start the research and I settled on this air cooler after hearing the pump whine on my AIO. I wanted the NH-D15 but because of my motherboard I could only fit one fan so I had to settle for the NH-D15S. I highly recommend you head over to Noctua's website and make sure your MB is compatible before ordering anything. After tons of research I choose this guy over the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4. I read nightmares from people installing the BeQuiet cooler because their mounting brackets were just horrible. As far as install it kind of stunk, but that was because of my case (Thermaltake Core V21). I love my cube case, it's the best case I ever worked in, but once my original cooler was installed I had to pull everything out to get to the new base plate for the NH-D15S on the back of my MB. My power supply was blocking access to the back of the MB, so I took all the sides of the V21 off (I love this case you can pull any side off except for the very front/back) and removed the PS to get to the base plate without removing my MB. I also took out my Graphics card, RAM and network card as well simply because if you slip with a screwdriver you don't have to worry about hitting anything. From there make sure to READ the directions and pick the correct alignment and spacers for your MB. They do supply the hardware for the LGA1700 MB's. I would also recommend before you attach anything to dry fit the cooler into place to make sure you align the mounting plates in the correct direction (there are two ways you can choose to mount this, front to back or side to side and the mounting plates HAVE to be in the correct direction. Check all your clearances and have at it! It took me about 30 minutes to do by myself. I have a Z490M MB with a i9-10900K Intel CPU. I run it at stock with no over clocking. My 280 Super MSI card always ran super quiet, even under load and this cooler does as well. After installing it I immediately tried RDR2 the game that was killing my old cooler. I played for about an hour to stress it and it never went above 60 degrees and ran smoothly. Most of the time when the CPU isn't busy it runs at 40 degrees. I could buy a few more 120mm fans for my case but don't see a need at this point since it is SUPER quiet and staying very cool. I'll come back an update this review if anything changes but the system is whisper quiet. When I built my original PC I made it so it was quiet and it was for two years until the pump in the AIO went kaput! Now it's back to library quiet in my office! UPDATE: 3/4/2023: I just got Hogwarts's Legacy and have been playing it for hours and the temperatures have stayed below 65 with no issues. I'm running a 2080 Super card with LGA 1200 i9-9900k CPU. My fan speed in the Noctua runs at about 800 during the game but it is still very quiet. You can feel the heat being pumped out of the case with no issue. This cooler is a beast and it isn't even the two fan model, just buy it! ... show more

  • Great fan, overclock away!
Great fan. Allowed me to overlock without running into any overheating issues. Not loud either.

  • Great fan, but follow rule #1!
Very quiet cooler to replace my water-cooled one after the pump went out. Keeps my CPU idling at around 33 degrees C. I attached some pictures to show you the fit. Full case picture with nearly rotten banana for scale attached. I don't do "precise." Other pictures walk you around to show you the clearance. Reference back to banana for scale. It's really close to my GPU, but if I installed it going the other direction it would actually be touching it. Massive clearance on the bottom and went well above my already tall RAM. I forgot to take a picture of that clearance and can't be bothered to at this point. The installation would have been REALLY easy if I had followed rule #1: "Don't eat an edible before you begin." Since I didn't follow that rule it took me over 2 hours. The struggle was real. Great unit. Recommend. ... show more

  • One of the best air coolers on the market. Huge.
Really good air cooler that works with some of the larger profile RAM. My problem is that it is so large my GPU barely fits when in the traditional horizontal position, and does not fit when placed vertically. I ended up returning for an AIO. My temps are better with the AIO, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison because I can using a 360mm radiator with the AIO. ... show more

  • Nice and cool
Runs cooler than my old 360mm Corsair cooler. This version is meant to be used for memory compatibility especially if the profile is a bit high, AKA if you opted for RGB. I have nothing but praise for this cooler for the last year or so. It’s also not a disgusting brown color like Noctua has been known for. If you want a high quality air cooler, look no further. ... show more

  • Exact fit as described, great thermals
Measurements are exactly as listed. I was working with a SFF case where every mm counted. Running only one of the fans currently and keeps my 5900X cool in a cramped case. The extra cable options are very handy.
