Noctua makes the best fans, and this one is perfect for external applications that need cooling and need to be powered by a USB port. ITS COMES WITH THE USB adapter, as well as an extension. I popped on some metal fan grills and am using it to cool and compact but very hot ethernet switch.

I use this as my exhaust fan in the networking closet. As the amount of gear kept growing, and so did the temperature. I was hitting 35C but now it hoovers around 30C. Much happier with the improved airflow, totally worth it. I have the fan installed in the attic hatch where the air vents to. Have been using Coolerguys 120mm USB Fan with Cabinet Mounting Bracket, just replaced original fan with Noktua.

The pressure fan makes a bit more noise, but it's only about as much as regular cheap fans, and I didn't do anything to reduce it! I put some rubber feet on one side of my fan, plugged it in to a USB port on my Nighthawk XR500 router, and set the router right on top of it. The router doesn't ever even feel warm to the touch. Big win!

I unplug it and it spins for another 30 to 45 seconds (seems like) before it stops spinning. At first when I unplugged it I thought did I pull the right connector off?? Pretty amazing. They are expensive-ish but quality costs more. The true test will come with use and how long it lasts before it fails.
