  • Low noise replacement for a small sub's old amp
I used this to replace a plate amplifier on a powered subwoofer for a pair of monitors. The reason I wanted to replace the existing amp was because it had a lot of white noise whenever it was turned on, which was a problem in the quiet, near-field listening environment I had set up. The old amp also suffered from interference (cell phone buzz buzz buzz sounds). This nobsound amp fixed both of those issues. The white noise is minimal, and it has gain switches (which I set to the minimum value) which reduced it further. Someone in another review mentioned there's a pop when the unit powers off, but that's only true if you cut power to the unit (by turning off a power strip). If you use the on/off switch on the unit there's no pop. The amount of power is more than enough for my needs, which aren't much (it's an 8" subwoofer for near-field listening). The amp stays very cool. The built-in EQ worked fine and I was able to tune it to match my monitors without too much trouble. I wish it had an adjustable phase, but you can always invert the phase by swapping the speaker leads, so no big deal. The RCA input is also a bit of a bummer (my previous sub was balanced XLR) but I haven't noticed any hum or other interference problems, so I guess it doesn't matter. For the price, I couldn't be happier. ... show more

  • Incredible sub amp: great way to turn a passive sub into an active sub!
I'm using this with an S.M.S.L. A300 amp to hook up a passive subwoofer to it's line-level sub output. It is working perfectly for my needs. PLENTY of power output (I've got the volume set to about 1/3). This devices cutoff of 300Hz is plenty compatible with the 100Hz of the A300. I did notice that in theory the sub freq knob should be able to go down to about 1/3 without impact, but I notice the difference in sound far before that, so I assume it's a non-linear scale. Not a big deal, but might be nice if the knob was labeled in some way so you knew what frequency you are dialing in. That being said for the price I cannot complain. Note that if you are using this for a sub amp be sure to select SUB rather than PBTL with the second switch. If you select full range (PBTL) it has a drastic impact on the output. Which is a BIT odd since I'm already sending only 0-100Hz to the unit from the SMSL. NBD since the SUB setting is most correct for my use anyway, but something to be aware of if you hook it up and think it sounds... off. Quiet. Dont take my minor criticisms for anything but that: nitpicks. I love the amp and am completely happy, especially for the low price. ... show more

  • More than enough for home stereo.
Thunder. For 50 bucks I am blown away by this tiny little amp that kicks out big Power. I hooked this up to a rejuvenated old Panasonic ported subwoofer from a mini home theater system from the '90s that was reloaded with a $30 Skar Audio 6.5 inch subwoofer. The adjustment knob for the bass frequency coupled with the volume knob and the subwoofer/full-range switch on this little Nobsound unit can pump out some big bass from a tiny sub. It's powerful enough that I cannot turn it all the way up and at 50% volume it sounds amazing. The signal is coming from the AUX port of my Fouk Audio mini tube amp. This combination along with some tiny Polk Audio bookshelf speakers sounds incredible in a 12x12 bedroom. Absolute High-Fidelity clarity, rich sound, clear vocals, and thundering bass. This is a great mini system that will sound (and feel) awesome for a medium-sized room. ... show more

  • Great replacement sub amp
I used this little amp to replace the burned-out amplifier module in my Energy ESW-8 powered subwoofer. It doesn't sound quite as good as the factory Energy amplifier, but pretty close. There is a slight hum at low volumes, but you can't really notice when music is playing and the bass is pumping. The output power is impressive - I have the gain set at minimum and the volume about halfway and my subwoofer gets plenty loud. It seems to be fairly equivalent to the factory Energy amplifier module in the ESW-8, which was rated at 100 watts (200 watts peak). Interestingly, this amp's output is noticeably louder when set to Sub mode compared to PBTL (full-range) mode. The constant low-level hum from this amp is also higher pitch in PBTL compared to Sub mode. In Sub mode, the low-pass crossover is very effective but the frequencies are not marked on the front panel so you have to guess where your cutoff point is. The amp's low-pass crossover seems to be a 12dB/octave slope with a range somewhere around 40Hz-200Hz. I'm using this amp with the LFE output from my receiver, so I set the amp to full-range (PBTL) mode and use the receiver's LFE crossover. The power supply included with the amp seems to be doing a fine job but it is very basic and cheap. It is a generic laptop-style brick rated at 19V, 4.7 amps. I would not be surprised if the actual power supply peak output is far below the labeled 4.7 amps, based on the power supply's small size and light weight. Total rated output power for the power supply is 89 watts (19V x 4.7A), so the amp itself can't put out more that about 85 watts using this power supply. The amp is rated at 12V-24V supply voltage and you'll probably need a beefier 24V/5A power supply to get the listed 100W output. Online forums and reviews, however, indicate that 19V is probably the sweet spot for the TPA3116 chip. Overall, this amp is a real bargain. It works great as a replacement for a powered subwoofers's internal amp and it would power some modest bookshelf speakers quite nicely. There's a bit of hum but it's not noticeable at listening volumes. The selectable sub/full-range mode is a great added feature and the selectable gain switches are icing on the cake. Great purchase, and I'd buy it again. ... show more

  • Deep, Hitting Bass. Great for my Computer Setup
After over 7 months of owning this, I have to write that this is a Great! addition to my setup. I have JBL ten year old full range speakers that I use for the mids and highs. I got these with an old Compaq desktop back in 2002 and still works. The Nobsound G2 Sub Amp is pushing a 250W Dual Voice Coil Subwoofer that I took out of my old Hyundai. Let me tell you this little amp is Loud and provide respectful bass. I believe you can even have a decent party on a 12ft x 12ft dance floor with this set up, larger if enclosed. I usually use this on my laptop while working so it is at a fairly low level, though it can be heard throughout my brick house, bass and all. Let's get to the bass, I listen to Soca, Reggae, Rock, Jazz etc. and the bass is decent in all genres. I suspect some level of equalization is used because for that amount of deep bass, I can't see this small amp producing this. The, what appears to be a low pass filter adjustment can produce bass from punchy to deep and I use this depending on the genre I'm listening to. Punchy for jazz and rock, deeper for reggae, dancehall and reggaeton. I would recommend this amp for rigs such as mine listening as levels such as mine. I'm not going to push this loud for parties, I don't think it would survive long but it does a hell of a job for casual listing. I like that I could listed to music across the room as most computer speakers are "near field" and only sound good when sitting near to the speakers. With my setup, this Nobsound provides good sound for a small price. Get it. ... show more

  • Powered my Bose Subwoofer nicely
I have an older Bose Audio system. My Yamaha receiver didn't have the connections I needed for a sub so I got this to allow my sub to hook up to the receiver. Easy adjustments for the volume and freq cut off. My receiver auto powers off after a certain time but this stays on 24/7. No issues at all.

  • Good sub amp for the price
This unit powers AuraSound Bass Shaker pretty well. I can't speak for the quality of the sound from an actual subwoofer, but for my application it seems to work well. It provides a good level of vibration for my needs, and doesn't seem to have any temperature control issues. I'm using this to provide some feedback in my drum throne so I can feel the bass drum when I use in ear monitors and when I'm playing electronic drums to practice. When I initially set this up I hadn't changed the gain settings from factory, and it didn't provide enough power. I was about to send it back when I looked through the instructions and found the part about the gain adjustments. It made a world of difference, and now I get to keep it. I'm sending a single channel to it with just the bass drum, but the cross over still comes in handy to keep out unwanted frequencies. It's built for one thing, and it seems to do it well. It looks like I'm going to be using this setup regularly so I'll post an update if anything changes with its performance or longevity. At this point, I'd recommend this unit. ... show more
