  • Works as advertised.
Bundle bought this with my Quest 2 when I purchased that. Arrived in good condition, the clamshell protective case is a nice touch even though I don't use the case for the battery itself. Keeps my headset "charged" while using it standalone. I haven't exactly timed it, but it seems to be around 6-7 hours before this battery dies and the HMD is forced to rely on its own battery. I say "charged" because I do wait a moment before starting the battery. I plug the HMD into the red 5V/3A charging port and it keeps the battery near full for the entire play. The cable provided is not long enough to reach the black 5V/2.4A charging port. What I do for consistent results is: I power on the HMD and wait for everything to load. Once everything is loaded I take a quick glance at the battery indicator to see that it's not currently being charged. Then I reach around and give a light double tap the "screen" of the battery with the flat of my finger(not the nail) which will turn the battery on and start charging. Looking at the battery indicator I can then see if the headset is receiving outside power or is still running on its own internal. Sometimes I miss with the tapping and it doesn't activate. In which case, I just try again. From that point on the HMD is getting all the power it needs to keep the internal battery charged for play. It should be noted that I leave the HMD on the stock 90mhz refresh, instead of using the somewhat recent 120mhz refresh that it is capable of. For two reasons. One the 120mhz refresh uses more power, and will actually drain the battery even while being charged externally. And two, surprisingly, there are still quite a few VR games that don't utilize more than 90mhz. So upping the HMD to 120mhz, while the game is still only running at 90mhz is a waste of processing power and battery. The battery sits comfortably on the back of the stock strap that came with my Quest 2. And actually provides a decent counter weight to the HMD unit itself. Not much but enough to notice. At the same time not adding too much to the overall weight of the entire unit(I have a friend who has used my Quest 2 as well as his own Valve VRHMD and he says that even with the battery my Quest 2 still weighs less than his Valve VRHMD). I was a little concerned with the design of the USB A end of the charging cord, looking a little like someone removed the outer covering of the USB housing leaving the internals exposed. But after closer examination I can see that this means that unlike standard USB A connectors, this one can be inserted at any angle rather than only in one. Meaning that you won't have to twist the cord to get it at the right angle to insert. The battery pack also serves as charge protection for your HMD. Just a simple search over the internet, will show you that the Quest 2 HMD should never be left on the charger once it reaches full charge. Unlike every other internal battery device, the Quest 2 does not have a cutoff that will stop it from trying to charge even after it's full. So leaving it on a charger overnight can actually damage the HMD. But, if you leave this battery connected, the battery will shut itself off once the HMD is charged. And, you can plug the battery in and charge through the battery(essentially charging the battery pack and the HMD at the same time) with the same result. Giving you peace of mind that when you wake up in the morning your HMD won't have melted it's charging/data port because it tried to take more than it's fill while you were unconscious. I knocked off a star in the "Value for money" area because it was a little on the expensive side. I've seen other battery packs with double the mAh for half the price. And the inclusion of the protective case and pouch is not enough to justify the increase of price. There is also the matter of, this battery did NOT come with it's own charge cable. You have to find that on your own. For those who read this and want to start looking for a charge cable to bundle with it, it takes a lightning cable most commonly used with Apple products. I was lucky, I already had one of these from a previous iPhone that I used to have so I did not need to purchase a new one. There is NO data transfer capability to this battery(I know, pretty standard, but still needs to be said). So if you want to play PCVR you will either need a strong wifi6 router, or you will need to unplug the battery and hope that your USB A or C port supplies enough power to keep your HMD charged while in use(you might be surprised to find that even on modern gaming super computers the USB C port which is recommended does not supply enough power to charge the HMD while in use, and rarely will a USB A 3.1 port have enough power). But for standalone use, this battery is amazing and I do recommend it for anyone who uses their Quest 2 standalone. Even at this price($39.99 at the time of review). ... show more

  • Must Have
Not only extends play time, but acts as a counter balance weight to your head set. The pouch also attaches to your factory head strap so you already have everything you need.

  • A couple bad points - but I'll still give 5 stars
LATER UPDATE - went from 5 to 4 stars because it does not charge the Q3 battery when in use. Q3 battery drains but slower when using this. It seems NO ONE has a proper battery for the Q3 which uses more power than Q2. Still - I LIKE IT A LOT. I'll update this later regarding performance. I just got it today so quick review. First the things I'd like to see changed. "all white" battery would be nice. The USB plugs (the "A") size are inside out. WIERD... the innards are showing. Never seen a plug like this. I'm hoping I can use the USB "C" to charge IN and out. It comes with a weird cable to use these ports. (but never seen one to replace it someday?) REally the above is enough to lower it one star to 4... but I'm sticking with 5 stars for now. THE GOOD STUFF. It's a nice size and weight. It's Really small for 10000mah. Came with 68% charge and I just topped it off to 99% . I love the white pouch. It fit my "add on 3rd party Zuber head strap perfectly. Balance seems good for countering the headset weight. I was almost gonna order a triangular battery that looked cool but had no real connector and I thought it would be a pain. So I went with this one after seeing a very good review on youtube. I love the LED - shows actual % left and charged. I just charged it up from 68 to 99 in a couple hours and I had the head set plugged in as well. So it did through charging and charged the head set AND this units battery at the same time with one wall wort. The manual is decent (seems like nothing has a decent manual these days) but this one did. The thing also has a CASE which is cool, but I don't think I'd ever use it. Still maybe if I travel or use the battery for my phone. I may update this later after actual usage. NOT SURE HOW TO TURN IT OFF? I just stopped charging and unplugged it and the 99% is still lit up? One other issue. The instructions said "recharge" it using the two inner most ports. The one outer most port has "OUT" 3a. Will this charge it (IN?) The other ports are all labeled 2A or one is 2.4A. So only the weird USB port labled "OUT" is 3A ?????? PHOTOS (2) one is balancing battery and head set "centered" on one finger. ... show more

  • Works great!!! But ...
September 2021: This is actually Really cool . better than expected. I've had it for 3 days and I haven't ran out of battery yet . Plug quest 2 charge cable directly into the battery. I played for 3 hours last night and the headset was at 100% and the battery was at 86%. the battery stays on as long as there's usage . if there is no usage then the battery goes to sleep. to turn it on you just double tap your finger on the battery and it wakes up and will automatically start charging if the headset is below 100%. I believe the battery stays awake for like 10 min without usage , so just wake it up before u put your headset on and your good to go . for anyone wondering , if u own the elite strap; the balance of the headset feels very good . Update July 2024: bought this in 2021 . It has worked perfect for 3 years but today I noticed my charging cable was having to go into the charging port at an angle . When I pulled the battery pack out of the sleeve to investigate further , I noticed the battery pack was coming apart quite drastically. Upon further inspection I pulled the case apart and the battery was swollen like a balloon . With that being said I'm 100% buying a new one, just not great seeing price went up from$30 to $50 ... show more
