These are cool looking and still well made. The size is neat and they have thickness to them so they will last awhile. I bought these because I saw they were still produced by Nintendo and appreciated they got their start by making these Hanafuda cards long before they were in the video game business. Even the packaging is artful and inviting. Perfect cards, a work of art. * Edit: I have seen a review say that the "blue" ink (aotan cards, wisteria, etc.) looks black. This is not true at all, at least of my deck. It is a distinctly deep purple, as "blue" hanafuda designs traditionally sport. The colours are accurate. Beware, fragile: the cards feel like paper without a finish (the slightest water or grease would definitely ruin them), and the plastic box does not click shut (so you can easily pick it up wrong and spill the cards). Treat your beautiful hanafuda with utmost respect <3

Just a cute set of hanafuda cards. Packaged nicely and arrived unopened in great shape. The instructions that come with it are Japanese, so if you don't know how to play any games with these cards and can't read Japanese, you will need to look up instructions online. I recommend looking up how to play Koi Koi, and there is a version of solitaire you can play with these as well that is easy to pick up if you know how to play solitaire with a deck of playing cards!

When I ordered this product I assumed that the cards only came in a thick paper box, as the picture implies, but happily I was wrong! The cards do come in a beautiful paper box, as the one shown, but around everything is a hard, clear plastic case protecting the whole deck and box. The cards seem to be made out of a hard thick paper that you can't bend, which is nice if you want to keep everything looking brand new. The bright printed images on the cards themselves are truly a wonderful sight be behold. The cards came with two instructional papers for two different games... me not being able to read Kanji makes me assume that these are the rules to Koi-Koi and 88. Instructions for both of these games can easily be found online as well. I have now played multiple games of Koi-Koi and the overall experience was definitely 5 stars for a unique deck of cards and games. Also I received my package 8 days before the earliest arrival date, so that was a great surprise! I would suggest this to anyone who is either a sucker for interesting new card games to learn, like me, or even avid fans of Nintendo and want to own something from their roots! I am absolutely glad I purchased this product!

Always wanted a deck after watching the Summer Wars movie. Even Learned to play the game online ahead of time. The packaging and presentation are superb. Nice cards...a little small and slippery though. ALso I will say that I am a little disappointed in the ink printing. The blue ink is too dark. The Lillies, Lilacs and Blue RIbbon cards are supposed to be a nice, medium indigo but they just look black.
