  • Fantastic Nintendo Experience
The Wii U Windwaker Bundle is a fantastic deal. This review will mostly reference the console itself and not Wind Waker HD (however I will reference aspects of it in my review). In short, Wind Waker HD is a great update of a classic game that I believe is a perfect display of why many of the Wii U's new features are something to get excited about. The Wii U Pros - The Wii U console is a vast improvement upon the Wii. I bought the original Wii day one back in 2007, and while I certainly did enjoy the motion controls and many of the Nintendo exclusive titles, I found that the novelty of motion control to wear off fast. That and the TONS of peripheral devices that went along with the system made playing some games feel like a chore. The Wii U controller may seem like an uninspired attempt to make a new odd/unique controller and hope it catches on. While I can't speak to the motives of Nintendo designers, I find that the controller works brilliantly. I'd argue it's the best method of surfing the web on a console. In addition, it's application so far in the 3 games I've played is done very well. But my favorite thing is that so far Nintendo doesn't seem to be forcing the user to use the "neat features" of the controller in games. For example, the controller has a motion sensor that can be used to aim the bow and arrow in Wind Waker HD. This method of aiming works very well (substantially better than I had anticipated). However, if this method of aiming doesn't seem that appealing, you can easily turn it off and use the joysticks instead. On top of all this, Nintendo has begun to embrace online functionality and is doing their own unique spin on it. Adding friends is much better than on the Wii, and all games have their own meta-social aspect to them that revolve around the Miiverse channel. How the Miiverse comes into play varies based on the game in question. In Super Mario 3D World, various Mii's from other online users would show up on the over-world map with various comments about their session ("x" level was hard, There is a secret here, or just jokes). Comments specific to a level could also be seen on the post level completion screen. In Wind Waker, players acquire an item that allows them to send messages in bottles. As you sail around the world, you can pick up these bottles to read these notes (using the camera you can also send images of your game in the bottles as well). Because the internet is...well the internet, I was surprised how well moderated the Miiverse is. I don't recall seeing anything obscene or offensive during my numerous hours of plays (also if you're concerned about messages containing spoilers, you can usually choose to not see messages classified as spoilers). While there is still plenty more to say about the console, I will make my final point about the ability to play off the tablet controller alone. While I am usually able to use the TV as I need, not all people have this convenience. It's nice that you can use the controller to play a game using just the screen on the tablet (within a pretty forgiving distance from the Wii U itself). I found being able to just use the tablet to play games useful on many occasions. Cons of the Wii U - Honestly there isn't that much to say is really wrong about the Wii U. Some generic complaints I could see people having is that Nintendo is child-centric in nature. Being a 23 year old, I will concede that the majority of there games out are more child focused in art design/style, they certainly aren't all easy and hand-holding. I suspect many games will test even the most talented of individuals (Pikmin 3 can be very challenging). Another issue is the absence of 3rd party game. On the Wii this problem was bigger as I the graphical limitations of the Wii (which has been more standardized) and the immensely unique nature of the Nun-chuck/Motion controller which could make translating the controls for a game a huge burden. The tablet controller, while still different from Sony/Microsoft's designs, is still similar enough that this should be as much of a big deal as it used to be. Personally, my only real issue after 6 months with the system as that the number of appealing first party titles on the Wii U is a bit limited. The near future of releases for Nintendo looks interesting, but to what end it is hard to say. Ultimately, this a great bundle to get. Despite my Wii U library being rather limited, I can safely say that I've had the most satisfying and unique gaming experiences with those few Wii U games than effectively any other game released in a long time. ... show more

Extremely disappointed, NO GAME, NO SENSOR BAR,NO GAMEPAD HOLDER!!. The gamepad was super dirty, I don’t think it’s even worth purchasing for 350$

  • Broken gamepad and not formatted
Unfortunately when buying refurbished/renewed there is always the risk of something being wrong. The listing shows these as good condition with a list of parts included. Mine showed up with the sensor bar missing, even though it is on the list of included pieces. The right analog stick is also broken and requires replacement. The console was filthy with sticker residue all over it and a layer of brown dust clogging the vents. After an hour of cleaning with rubbing alcohol all the residue came off and the dust cleaned from all vents just with a simple duster. These are simple steps I figured would be taken to present the console as good condition, before shipping. If anything I would consider this to be fair condition and not worth the full asking price as parts have to be ordered to get it fully functional. Having the box set as the picture for this item is also deceiving as it implies a sealed or near completed set with box included. No box included and prior owner information still registered on the system. The listing also states the system is formatted before shipping. This information includes unique Nintendo IDs and email addresses for the 3 accounts registered to the system, something I am sure was not intending to be sold. ... show more

  • An Excellent Console for All Ages
The Wii U is a great system that's fun for all ages. The console supports Wii games, along with Wii remotes and most other accessories, which is great for anyone wanting to upgrade from their old system. It's a simple process to transfer all of your original Wii data (including purchases from the eShop, Mii characters, and save data), so you don't have to worry about holding onto your old system to play your games. It doesn't play Gamecube games, which might disappoint some gamers, but it shouldn't be expected those games, either. The Wii U gamepad makes playing games a blast to play, and it's honestly hard to go back to playing on a standard controller after experiencing it; for those really concerned, the Wii U Pro Controller is supported by most games, and resembles an Xbox 360 controller. Playing games off of the gamepad is a real convenience, with excellent visuals and no noticeable lag. The addition of Miiverse, Nintendo's social networking device, is addictive and makes social gaming even better; it's fascinating to share pictures and high scores with your friends and other players from around the globe, and is extremely simple to do. The Wii U supports most of the same apps that other consoles do, with a unique Youtube, Netflix, and Hulu Plus interface, along with others. As for The Wind Waker HD game itself, it's been redesigned specifically for the Wii U, and takes advantage of all of the console's new hardware. Again, Miiverse and the gamepad only enhances already great experience. The visuals retain their classic Gamecube design, but textures have been newly crafted to fully take advantage of 1080p resolution rather than being stretched like many other HD releases. In conclusion, I am confident in recommending the Wii U to any gamer, young or old, that is interesting in playing Nintendo's first party games and any of the unique titles the console has to offer. It is likely the best new video game console to purchase this holiday season (2013), as it's library is the most diverse, the price lowest, and the gamepad offers a way to play that can't be found anywhere else. ... show more

  • A great console with great potential, but with some flaws.
First of all: I've always been a huge Nintendo fan since 1995. Never skipped any Nintendo console to date, and so I've got my Wii U Deluxe Zelda bundle. Overall I'm very satisfied with the product. It's a great piece of hardware! But let's point the pros and cons (in my opinion): Pros: - Very capable hardware. While not as powerfull as the Playstation 4 or the Xbox One, it still manages to produce Full HD graphics with MUCH better overall quality than PS3 and XBox 360. - A trully inovative gamepad controller. Fully equiped with touch sensitive screen, a built-in camera, speakers, microphone and also a fully functional controller, with perfect sync with the TV display. - The Wind Waker HD is an amazing game that everyone should try. Also, the Hyrule Historia PDF that comes together is also in excellent image quality. - There will be top notch games coming from Nintendo soon, such as Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid and the Super Smash Bros series. - A great online service made by Nintendo allows digital media download, social media integration to games and web browsing on the fly. Cons: - Many games aren't available for download at the eShop - The gamepad battery doesn't last for long (but there is a nice charging cradle included) - Litle support from third party developers - No support for a media player software. Such a bummer, since this has been there for a while at Xbox and Playstation. If you're okay with those cons, I definitly recommend the purchase. ... show more

  • Best current-gen console for PC gamers
Face it. 90% of the best games for PS4 and Xbox One are going to be available for PC, so if you alreay have a gaming PC, there's realy no point in getting either of those consoles, especially given the fact that most of those games have Xbox controller support for PC. The Wii U has the advantage of having an entirely different interface from the other two consoles, using a second screen touch interface built in to the controller. It also has access to all the Nintendo exclusive titles like Zelda, Mario, and Smash Bros., making it a great choice for many casual gamers as well. The graphics may not be as good as PS4 or Xbox One, but Nintendo prides itself on putting gameplay first, and Wii U delivers. Zelda Deluxe set review: WindWaker HD is a beautiful and entertaining game. I hated the cartoony cell-shaded look when it was originally released for GameCube and was relectant to play the game. Now that it has been updated to HD resolution, the crystal clear lines are quite stunning, and I see now what I had been missing as far as the game itself, which is certainly the most sarcastic Zelda title to date. I was expecting the Deluxe set to have a custom Zelda design for both the gamepad and the console itself, but only the gamepad has a Zelda design on it. The console is simply the back 32GB version of the console. Don't take this as a complaint, as I still give a 5-star rating. I just wanted to make sure anyone else who thought the same thing I did wouldn't get their hopes up that the consle would have a custom Zelda design. ... show more

  • Health and Safety Error Code
When I do a health and safety icon check it gives me a 160-0103 system memory error code. (See video). There is nothing for support either from the seller, or Nintendo. Needless to say, everything else seems to be working ok. I'm giving one star on this for two reasons: 1. Because the seller charged over $500 dollars for this item without fully running a diagnostic on the system before selling it. 2. Because there is absolutely no customer service for this either from the seller, or Nintendo. I didn't expect any help from Nintendo due to the fact that this gaming console has been discontinued for a number of years now; however, I was expecting some kind of support from the seller. I would highly recommend that you do not buy this item. Look elsewhere. The Legend of Zelda game is not all it is cracked up to be, not for this price anyway. You can probably find the game much cheaper elsewhere. ... show more

  • A product I love at a price I do not!
I love the Wii U, I really do. How can you go wrong with games like Rayman Legends, Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, New Super Luigi U, etc? Well in 3 aspects actually. First in price. This bundle was $320 at the time of the review. Second in third party support. Since Ubisoft and others have all but quit support for the Wii U, the only way I can play upcoming games like Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs is by buying another console. The third aspect is in console power. Clearly the Wii U is not on the same level as the PS4 & the XBox. In my case I just went ahead and bought a Wii U and a PS4. I didn't want to miss out on the best of both worlds. But it's a shame when Nintendo forces you to chose by releasing a console that never took off ... show more
