I absolutely love this Ninja blender and food processor. Honestly, it has been one of my best kitchen purchases on Amazon so far, and I would buy it again without hesitation. It comes with three different cups, which makes it really convenient depending on what you’re preparing. You can use the smaller one to process or chop food, depending on the speed you use. Each cup has its own blade, and they all work really well. The larger cups are especially great for smoothies because the blades blend fruit very quickly and leave everything nicely processed. I’ve had the chance to use it for quite a while before writing this review, and I’ve made all kinds of things with it. It still works perfectly, hasn’t developed any burning smell, and the motor is surprisingly fast and powerful. The plastic cups also feel sturdy and well made. One thing to keep in mind is that the blades are REALLY sharp, so be careful when washing or handling them. That sharpness is part of what makes this blender work so well, but you definitely don’t want to grab the blades carelessly. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this purchase. Quiet, powerful, and inexpensive

You get a lot for your money with this blender. Makes perfect green smoothies. I don't really use the other food processor bowls and blades that come with the set, but it's nice to know they're there. After reading other reviews, I always handle the blade by its top, and give it a spin to make sure the blade is centered on the spindle. The same sharpness that makes it dangerous makes it effective! It hasn't cut me yet. I was surprised at the quiet power the Ninja has, it is really remarkable. Best blender I've used. To me, it is better than a Vitamix. The motor-at-the-top arrangment is clever and logical. You pop in the blade, fill the pitcher, put on the lid, pop on the motor, and blend (quietly) away. My brother had talked about the health benefits he'd seen from drinking green smoothies. I'd seen Fat Sick and Nearly Dead, and wanted to try a diet change. Bought a juicer and this blender to make hybrid smoothies. Your taste may tend toward Margaritas, and I completely understand, but these days I'm trying out the green smoothie way. Here's a typical morning smoothie: For the liquid, you can use water, or fresh veggie juice. I use fresh veggie juice, perhaps to justify the purchase of my Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor- juice 3-4 large carrots and half a cucumber or zucchini. Sometimes if I have an extra apple or orange, or want a lime or ginger flavor, I juice those as well. Pour the water/veggie juice into the Ninja, along with... 1 cored apple (not peeled), one peeled orange (keep the white skin, lose the outer orange), 1 1/2 cups of Kale or Spinach (fresh or frozen), 2-3 teaspoons Spirulina, 1 banana, some frozen pineapple, peach, berries, or mango, 1/4 avacado, protein powder (I combine Rice Protein with Vega Vanilla is best), and sometimes frozen shelled edamame (soy beans). I vary the recipe depending on what's on hand, and rotate the kale and spinach. The blender keeps all the fiber of the kale/spinach, apple, orange, and fruit... along with the nutrients from the juiced veggies. Hybrid. The Breville juices fast, and cleans up fast. The Ninja blends it fast and well, and also cleans up fast. Tip 1: Pulse and blend. Do both and it will thoroughly all ingredients. If you only blend, it won't all mix. Tip 2: For weekday speed, move prep time to Sunday afternoon. You can prepare a series of smoothies using frozen spinach/kale, frozen fruits, and add-in-powders. Store them in the freezer in individual freezer containers. On a weekday morning, just pour a Ziploc into the Ninja. Add the apple (cored) and orange (peeled) fresh. If you have time, juice the carrots and cucumber, and add the juice. If you don't have time, add 2 cups of water. Tip 3: Freeze you Bananas! - Buy/wait for peak freshness. Peel whole bunch. This Ninja blender and food processor set has made cooking a lot easier. The powerful blender crushes ice and frozen fruit, resulting in smooth smoothies. Works great, pain to clean overengineered

So first for the low price I paid especially you get a lot and it gets the job done. Way more powerful than the old small ninja chopper which was struggling with hummus. My uses are Hummus/Salsa/Guac for the smaller guy, and Smoothies and butternut soup for the larger. All of the above it does, including handling the frozen berries. You just need the soup ingredients to not be hot obviously (the way I make it I like to look it some more after blending anyway so I'm fine with the plastic). The lids are annoying to clean. They have crevices and it's nearly impossible to let them drip dry at an angle where all the water can escape. Those same books are really difficult to handle clean also, I had to get out the little brush that comes with some difficult to clean water bottles, or try squeezing a sponge in etc. Not a problem for runnier things but hummus and peanut butter aren't the easiest thing to wash off with just the spray gun. It's also a lot of parts. The blades are 2 parts, then the lid, then the container then the motor. And the lid has a seal ring that comes out easily and you gonna want to wash that separately once in a while. A lot of space in the dish rack, awkward shapes, lots of things to wash for just a smoothie. The 2 piece blades are cool though because the top half is made to go up and down I guess, adding a pulsating effect. I guess I really preferred the design of the old smaller one, with a flat lit and a flat-ish motor unit. Easier to clean. Also my old blender for a smoothie most of the time didn't even splash up to the lid l, made a nice vortex, so I didn't even have to clean that. This thing, it's mayhem in there, splashing all over. It's all contained, no leaks or anything. I have to give a good rating because for the $35ish I paid to basically replace my old weaker ninja chopper (which I think I bought for $30-35 ~7y ago) as well as my recently burned out blender, I got great bang for the buck and it can handle what I need to throw at it. I lost ease of cleanup. But - I've had worse cleanup, at least everything is actually cleanable and there aren't nooks where it's literally impossible and then it gets gross - this isn't that bad. I never chop ice but the instructions manual does say it's supposed to be able to make shaved ice. One other thing to note is it says never to hold it more than 15s. I find that that's more than enough for a smoothie, and hummus I do 2 pulses of 15s with a taste test in-between, and it's good to go at that point IMO. In other words this thing packs a punch and that 15s seems sufficient I'm general I wish the blender container was made to stack on top of the chopper container, would result in a smaller footprint when storing. I'm not sure that this is really a space saver for that reason so if you're thinking small apartment one person save space, no. Affordable unit that can handle a bunch of stuff a cross between a chopper and a blender, yes Also the chopper and blender are basically the same thing just one is bigger. I don't think there's a material difference between the 2 besides volume and that the blades are farther apart. So you could theoretically put one away and use the other if the volume of stuff you're making fits in the smaller or is enough to cover both blades in the larger. In that regard it could be a space saver on the counter. As an example, I don't make enough hummusnfor the pitcher and my smoothies don't fit in the chopper so that doesn't work for me. ... show more

For the price it is worth it. There are some design flaws. I will go with a pro and con list. Pros- Works amazing, it really does blend well. After I got it I was highly doubtful because it is not like any blender I have ever seen. It does work great. Really easy to clean. With ice, you have to be careful not to over fill it, but it does work. With the smaller one I made powdered sugar from normal sugar ...it actually worked. Took a bit and I think with a different one it would have worked a little better. I have made iced coffee mixes with it and I love it... Cons- The way you put the blades in isn't very well thought out...it just sits in there ..not locked in place...I almost broke the larger blending pitcher because I had poured some smoothie out to test it, well I forgot to keep my finger on the top blade stick thingy part...it moved while I did that. I did not realize and put the motor on it and pressed the button. It was not on the bit of metal that holds it and almost destroyed the pitcher..(if it was glass it would probably be broken). Once the blade part comes out you can't use the blender...you can't just put it back on..so if it accidentally pops up and you are not finished..you have to pour out what you are making and clean it. I know this makes it sound awful but it actually has an amazing motor for how cheap it is..I have already gotten good use from it. I waited to make this review. The design seems to be something no ones spoken about and I figured I would let people know. As long as you do not make my mistake you won't damage the pitcher... Update: I have had my blender for almost 3 yrs now. It is the older version thats like 34$ now. I have had none of these issues with it that are being posted. The only thing I've noticed is...the bottom of the pitcher where the lil thing goes through for the blades ..is forming cracks. This is from use though and is to be expected. The issues I am seeing are from using it wrong. The melting, its from not pulsing it. I do mine for 15 second pulses. It over heats the motor and that is why your burning the plastic. I do not add everything at once either(if I'm going to make a good amount). The motors strong but that's unnecessary strain on it...plus it can make it leak if you add all at once. Yes, I'm sure some are defects..but you're buying a cheaper blender, expecting it to be like the $300 Ninja. I also dont recommend using ice. I will sometimes put a cube in or three after I add my other ingredients... but I don't think the pitcher itself is made for ice. Or maybe pulse it for less time. I also hand wash it... the plastic breaking could be from dishwashing. Heating plastic up isn't great for it. ... show more

So far, I absolutely love this blender and food processor. I’ve been looking for one for a few weeks now that would meet my needs. I’ve had an old Hamilton Beach blender since I was married almost 50 years ago. It still works, but I don’t like having to mix everything in the big glass container and it’s hard to clean. This blender, food processor appeal to me because it came with three different sizes of containers with individual blades and covers for each one. This morning I made a smoothie in the smaller container and it worked perfect. Runs smooth and clean and it isn’t very loud. The tops have an and it isn’t very loud. The tops have a rubber ring around the opening and the top fits securely inside of the container so there are no leaks! Everything is easy to clean and they’re all dishwasher safe. If I want to make salsa or a margarita I can use the other two containers and I have an option of the size I want. You have to make sure that the power pod is seated correctly and then you push on it and you can either pulse it or let it run for a while, depending on what you are mixing and the consistency of blending you need. I’m so glad that I purchased this. I was not sure what I wanted. It was $59 and I got it in two days. I envision a lot of use and other reviews I read say that it lasts a long time. It is so much easier to use than my big blender. Having multiple sizes is very important to me. I’m sure that anyone that purchases this will be pleased! ... show more

After using for a week, working just as I hoped

I decided to write my first impressions after receiving the QB1004, and hopefully will have more to say later. This blender beats my old Commercial Oster blender in every way but one - it is a little more complicated to clean up (3 parts to clean up instead of 2 (never removed the blade/base assy from the pitcher on the Oster)). However, it blends so much better I'm happy to have it. Right now, all I've done with it is make strawberry protein drinks for myself using either the large 48oz pitcher, and sometimes the 40oz jar: Dump in 1 C. skim milk or Lactaid skim milk, little over 1 C. of frozen strawberries, serving of Visalus vanilla flavored protein powder, and about 1/4 C. of hot tap water to thin the consistency to that of an In-N-Out milk shake (just barely moves up the straw!). 2 or 3 short pulses, then a 10 second run and it's done - no chunks remaining, no globs of protein powder. Perfect consistency each time with no need to scrape the pitcher - everything pours out the pouring spout on the lid with nothing left inside. Sometimes, I make it fancy by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream with another 1/4 C. hot water. Ice cream or not, everyone thinks it is simply a strawberry shake. Want to try some vanilla yogurt next instead of ice cream. Sometimes I make a double recipe for the two of us - I always use the large pitcher in this case. I clean up by quickly rinsing out the pitcher through the pour spout (leaving the blade inside and the lid on), then putting in warm water about 1/3 full and a few drops of detergent in, and blending with a few pulses and a longer run. Then I rinse the 3 parts separately in warm running water, and put the blade in an empty 1 qt. cottage cheese container to dry - that keeps it safe from accidental touches, then unplug the motor. We keep the blade/container, pitcher, and motor on the counter ready to go - If we had kids in the house, I'd put the blade up high in a ventilated mason jar or ? to dry. I appreciate all the other reviews here on Amazon - after reading all of them, I decided the QB1004 was the best choice for me, the price is terrific, and so far I'm very pleased. I wanted at least a 48 oz container so I could use it to make double or triple recipes at times, so that eliminated some smaller blenders. I also didn't want the 72oz Ninja Professional blender that another family member uses daily - it is just too big and tall for our kitchen or for our needs, and it sometimes leaves clumps on the side whereas this QB1004 has not left clumps/lumps once I got the consistency thinned enough to pour out the spout. The quality of all the parts seem very good at first use. Time will tell... ... show more

Wonderful alternative to the blender

5 years later and it's still working great! This is a great product. Original review: I bought the QB1004 model about 4 months ago to replace a top of the line Kenmore blender and prior to that, a top of the line Oster. This is simply the best I have ever used. It is not nearly as noisy as the others and is much easier to clean. I make two smoothies every single day. I hate dealing with fruit peeling and cores but the recommendation is that we eat a couple servings of fruit a day. I get mine in one breakfast smoothy and just get the process over with for the day. My recipe for two people includes a banana, two granny smith apples, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 2 teaspoons of lax seeds (I grind them in my coffee grinder first), 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, 1 cup of kefir, and then additional fruit as is available to fill the container. Usually have to add more water to the mix. I use the largest container and blades for this process. It works perfectly. I also make a lot of salsa. (see the The Great Salsa Book by Mark Miller). I use the smaller containers for salsa. You have to be careful to not over-chop or you will have broth rather than salsa. A few touches of the on/off switch is typically all you need to chop peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc. The Ninja works great for hard cheese like parmesan. Doesn't work as well for soft cheeses. Cleaning is a bit more of an effort if you grate cheeses but not that big of a deal. I make a desert using the Ninja that is frozen fruit, 1 teaspoon of sugar, ice cubes and a cup of kefir. My spousal unit states that it is almost identical to the Gelato that she buys in Italy. I wouldn't know, but it is very tasty AND the Ninja does a great job of shredding the ice cubes into tiny ice particles. Some advice: Be careful of the blades. It is called Ninja for a reason. You will cut yourself if you are not careful. Don't try to lick the blades or scrub with your fingers. For your first week with Ninja I suggest band-aids in the kitchen. Don't overfill. It gets messy if you go beyond the recommended fill line. Rise immediately. I have read some reviews where people gripe about nooks and crannies that are hard to clean. If you rinse this immediately after use you will have no problem keeping it clean. I wash the container in the dishwasher daily but rinse and dry the blades and top by hand.
