  • Three Appliances, One Ridiculously Powerful Motor Base
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
My kitchen has reached the point where every appliance seems to arrive with its own motor base, bowl, blade, lid, and drawer full of accessories. A blender here, food processor there, personal blender somewhere else, and suddenly half the cabinet is dedicated to things that all spin a blade in slightly different ways. That is what makes the CrushBOSS 3 in 1 so appealing. Instead of adding another single-purpose appliance, Ninja built one seriously powerful base that handles full-size blending, personal drinks, and actual food processing. The 1850 peak watt motor has plenty of power for the obvious blender stuff. Ice and frozen fruit do not hang around very long, and the 72 ounce pitcher is large enough that I can make multiple smoothies or frozen drinks at once without filling it right to the lid. The pitcher shape also does a good job keeping ingredients moving instead of letting them hover above the blades while everything underneath gets pulverized. SmoothSense takes some of the babysitting out of the process by adjusting speed and time automatically, but I still have manual speed control when I want to intervene. The 26 ounce tumbler makes the system much more practical for everyday use. If I am only making a protein shake or smoothie for myself, I do not want to dirty a giant pitcher just because that happens to be the blender attached to the motor. I can use the smaller vessel, throw on the chug lid, and take it with me. Vessel Detect recognizes which container is attached and adjusts the available programs accordingly, which makes moving between the full-size pitcher and personal cup feel seamless rather than like I am bolting random accessories onto the same base. That same flexibility carries over to the food processor. The 64 ounce bowl is large enough for real meal prep, not just chopping half an onion, and the XL feed chute means I spend less time cutting vegetables into tiny pieces just so they physically fit into the machine. PrepIQ works well for quick chopping and pureeing, while the MultiBlade disc handles slicing, shredding, and crinkle cutting. Then there is the dough blade, which means the same base that was pulverizing frozen fruit a few minutes earlier can turn around and handle pizza or cookie dough. That range is what makes this feel like an actual kitchen system rather than a blender with a couple of bonus attachments. The base itself also feels built for that kind of regular swapping and heavier use. It has enough weight to stay planted when I am crushing ice or working through a thick mixture, and the pitcher, processor bowl, lids, and locking points all feel sturdy rather than flimsy. The blades and discs feel substantial as well. I have not had it long enough to make some grand claim about how the motor will hold up five years from now, but nothing about the construction makes me feel like I need to baby it. The whole system feels designed to be used often. There is a downside to all that power: this thing is loud. Crushing ice or running the processor at higher speeds will absolutely make its presence known, and I would not choose 6 a.m. as the ideal time to test how quickly it can turn ice into snow if someone is sleeping nearby. Fortunately, most high-power jobs are over quickly. I would rather have a loud machine that finishes in seconds than a quieter one that spends two minutes sounding increasingly concerned about the frozen strawberry I dropped into it. Cleanup is better than the number of included pieces might make you expect, although there is obviously more to wash here than with a simple blender. The pitcher and tumbler are easy enough for everyday rinsing, and the processor bowl has wide access that makes it much less annoying to clean than narrow containers. The blades and slicing disc deserve some respect because they are extremely sharp, so those are pieces I clean deliberately rather than blindly reaching into a sink full of soapy water. The tradeoff for having three appliances in one system is that there are several lids, blades, and attachments to store, so this saves motor-base counter space more than it eliminates accessory storage. At around $280, I think the value comes down to whether you will actually use all three sides of it. If you only want a blender, the regular CrushBOSS is substantially cheaper and gives you the same powerful base. Here, though, the extra money gets you a personal blender, a legitimately useful food processor, slicing and shredding capability, dough mixing, and a system that feels sturdy enough for regular use. If you would otherwise be buying those appliances separately, the versatility makes the price much easier to justify. That is really what I like about the system. It is not just a blender with a random bowl thrown into the box so Ninja can call it a kitchen system. The blender is powerful, the personal cup makes sense for everyday use, and the processor is capable enough that I would actually reach for it during meal prep. If I were starting from scratch and wanted one appliance ecosystem to cover most of my blending and food-processing needs, this is the configuration I would buy. ... show more

  • Pretty good set
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
This is a nice 3-in-1 Ninja blender set. First, what does it come with? With this specific set, there is a full-size pitcher with its own multi-tiered blade, a smaller single-serving cup with a bottom-blade, and a food processor container that came with three blades (grater, crinkle cut slicer, and standard flat slicer) as well as a shorter multi-tiered blade and plastic dough blade. Finally of course is the base, which all three accessories can fit onto. How about the design? In our testing, the food processor worked just fine at slicing, and the personal smoothie cup worked great as well. The full-sized blender cup worked pretty well, but it has some limitations that are worth mentioning. Unlike certain other high-end blender brands, Ninja opts to use sharp blades at multiple intervals in most of their blender pitchers, and they spin those blades at a much slower speed. The advantage to this design is that your thicker smoothies should never end up with "dead zones" like they can with the dull, high-RPM, bottom blades on other brands. The disadvantage is that your smoothies might not come out quite as smooth, and the Ninja may have a harder time fully blending tiny, hard ingredients like flax seeds. Also, the blender can whip a lot of air into your smoothie if it is too thick, resulting in a whipped cream consistency. The main pitcher lid has a strange locking system where you have to push it all the way on and then fold down the handle to lock it. This means that when the lid is off the pitcher, the handle is always sticking annoyingly straight up, making it hard to store and fit in the dishwasher. There are tabs in place to prevent you from folding down the handle unless it is actually on the pitcher. The parts are all pretty easy to clean. As far as I can tell, all of the parts except the base are at least top-rack dishwasher safe. Though we all know that the full sized pitcher is not going to fit on a normal top rack. I just always make sure that "heated dry" is disabled when anything plastic is on the bottom. The only annoyance with cleaning is how many parts there are, and how dangerous it can be to deal with the unwieldy blade towers. They are hard to hold, hard to handwash, and tricky to load properly in a dishwasher. But once you get used to that, popping them in the dishwasher is not a huge deal. The unit seems strong, with a good motor that should last a long time. It had no problems plowing through lots of frozen fruit. Just make sure you have plenty of liquids or you will end up with either a) a smoothie too thick to pour or b) whipped cream smoothy that is light, fluffy, and full of air. How about the software features? The base has three primary modes. To the left are the presets, which helpfully tailor themselves based on the installed blender cup, only showing the compatible presets. To the right is the custom mode, where you can set the blender speed and control the blending time. And in the middle is the auto-mode, which according to the manual is only intended for the full-sized pitcher container and tries to detect the consistency of what is in the pitcher and blend at the proper speed (I think on a standard one-minute timer). The strange thing is that the base defaults to the middle mode no matter what container is installed on it, which doesn't make any sense. We installed the food processor, and the base still defaulted to the auto "SmoothSense" mode. Same with the personal cup, IIRC. Even more annoyingly, as we were using the slicing mode with the food processor, the base kept exiting the preset mode on its own after a few seconds between batches and going automatically back out to the main screen, with "SmoothSense" selected. This happened multiple times and we kept having to go back into the presets menu, find the preset, and run it. Overall, a very nice multi-function set. If you like the Ninja approach to blending, this is a great higher-end option. Just expect it to take up a *lot* of counter and cupboard space with all of the pieces and parts. ... show more

  • Ninja CrushBOSS 3-in-1 Blender & Food Processor, 1850PW, Onyx, LB401BK
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
This thing really is a BOSS! I already had a Ninja blender and a Ninja food processor, and I love both of them and they've seen A LOT of use in my kitchen. And now this space saving CrushBOSS 3-in-1 is a fantastic upgrade in both power and technology. I love that it has given me the added bonus of the 26 oz tumbler which is something I didn't have before. I do make the occasional smoothie, but I never did bother to get a bullet blender or separate appliance for something like that. However it is great to have since it fits the same base as the big pitcher, and I have found myself reaching for it quite often to make small batches of sauces and dressings. It does make a nice smoothie, but it also emulsifies dressings very well too! The 72 oz pitcher is plenty big for anything else I could possibly need to blend up, from large batches of salsas for canning to frozen margaritas for a crowd. And it works GREAT. The SmoothSense has delivered perfect results every time I've tried it, but I also love that there is still a manual setting so I can control and adjust the blend myself. And it also has a food processor?! I love the Ninja food processor I have, and although it is several years old it does some of the same things as this one with the shredder and slicer discs (no crinkle cut though!), but it does take up quite a bit of space in my cabinet. So I am so impressed that this CrushBoss food processor takes up a fraction of the space but has even more power and functionality. The chute is plenty big for anything I have fed through it, and everything has come out nicely shredded and sliced. It did some great crinkle cut cucumbers for pickles and it shredded up a bunch of overgrown zucchini that I was doing for zucchini bread in record time. It made that prep work go so quick! Overall, as an avid home cook and gardener that always has some sort of harvest preserve so I do a decent amount of home canning and freezing, I am really impressed with this appliance. It makes big prep jobs quick and painless and is also easy to work with for a small weeknight dinner as well. Everything is easy to clean, it doesn't take up a ton of space in my kitchen since both pitchers and the food processor share one base, and the power and technology are unmatched. I highly recommend this Ninja CrushBOSS 3-in-1! ... show more

  • Very nice
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
I have been using the same Oster blender for the last 30 years so this is a huge upgrade for me. It is a 3 in 1 appliance that will take up much less space on your countertop but you will still have to find the space to store the accessories your not using. I don't like that with the large Blending jar on the base it's just a little too tall to fit under my kitchen cabinets, but the food processor and tumbler fit just fine. It is a very attractive machine and will look good sitting on anyone's countertop. I really like how the digital display and controls function and there is a built in smart sensor that will sense which accessory your using. The screen on the display is responsive to touch and I don't have to press it multiple times. This thing is powerful, I've had no problem crushing ice with it and it liquifies food like there's no tomorrow. It is also pretty loud, but what blender isn't. I have been experiencing a problem with changing to the different jars and food processor it takes me a few moments to everything lined up properly to get a secure attachment to the base. I'm sure I will get better and faster with practice. I like that you can blend directly into the tumbler and then just take the tumbler with you when your done. The tumbler fits perfectly in my vehicles cup holder. So far I've only used the food processor to chop an onion which it did with outstanding results. It was much easier than doing it by hand. The build quality on this machine is very good. At first I thought the blending jars were glass but upon closer inspection they are plastic. A very thick plastic that appears to be very durable. Everything is well made and should serve you well. I do think this machine is expensive, but quality costs and its replacing three machines. ... show more

  • A great addition to my kitchen
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
Everything in this set feels solid and well built. All of the pieces feel sturdy and look like high quality materials. The stainless steel blades are extremely sharp and heavy duty. Even with the large pitcher attached, the entire unit fits nicely on the counter and easily clears the upper kitchen cabinets. Taking everything apart after cooking is simple because all the components disassemble smoothly for cleaning. The base automatically recognizes whether you attach the full pitcher, the food processor bowl, or the single serve smoothie cup. It adjusts the available settings on screen depending on what container is locked in place. The auto sense technology works remarkably well too. It automatically senses the load and adjusts the blending time and blade speed on its own. I do not know how it determines the exact timing, but every batch turns out perfect. The motor has serious power and saves a lot of prep time in the kitchen. My old food processor used to take around ten minutes of continuous running to blend up homemade hummus. This unit completed the same task in about two minutes. The hummus came out noticeably smoother and silkier than before. The control interface takes a little time to learn compared to traditional appliances with dedicated individual buttons. You navigate through the digital menu options by turning a single dial and then press the dial to select your option. I was not completely sold on this setup at first, but it becomes second nature after using it a few times. I really love this combination device, and I have officially retired my old stand alone blender and food processor. It is well worth the money for such a versatile and powerful machine. ... show more

  • Works really well - but cleaning
Color: Onyx Size: Blender, Tumbler, & Food Processor
This is a very nice, very complete set. I love the versatility from a single base unit. Everything works really well and the use is very intuitive. My one minor complaint is the "complexity" of the pieces. The blender pitcher and processor bowl have bases that are permanently attached. And there are hollow areas in there where water can collect when washing. Important to note that these areas are outside of the food area, but when washing, it is difficult to avoid water getting in there, and when it does, it is nearly impossible to dry. Everything is great now, but I don't know how to 100% avoid getting mold in there. At this price point, I'd like a design that is either solid pieces, or allows complete disassembly. ... show more
