Ninja continues to be very innovative and customer centric in their products. I have been very happy with the Ninja Flip Toaster/Air fryer. The Ninja Crispi Glass Air Fryer looked interesting when I noticed this Ninja® Crispi™ Microwave & Air Fryer with FusionCrisp was new on the market. This new product is a game changer, and I can't wait for all the cookbook authors to update their books to include the use of the microwave and air fryer in one appliance. There are so many cool things about FusionCrisp that I am discovering as I work my way through the limited number of recipes for this appliance on the SharkNinja website and in the Chef-Inspired Recipe Book that is in the box. The features that make this so valuable to me are the following: ~ Versatility: Countertop Microwave (1000-watt), Convection Air Fryer (1700-watt), and FusionCrisp Technology —designed to replace a countertop microwave and air fryer with one versatile appliance. The noise level is much lower than my OTR (over the range) microwave. ~ FusionCrisp technology: Your cooking session begins with microwaving, then automatically finishes with air frying. The functionality allows for microwave only, air fryer only, or combined and used in sequenced time. ~ Freezer to table: Using the included CleanCrisp Glassware you can go from frozen to crispy in minutes. First, I believe that Toshiba is the only other company that has combined an air fryer with a microwave, like this Ninja combo. I don’t have a Toshiba to compare this one with, but I can’t image it being any better. Ninja, of course, is a company that consumers have a sense of reliability in, and this Crispi is no exception. Out of the box, it was a bit overwhelming because there’s only three buttons on the front. You’d think that, with the dual ability to microwave and air fry, there’d be more. As it turns out, three buttons really are all you need. I started with something simple that I already knew how to do: microwave leftovers. I put the bowl inside, centered it on the “+” printed on the bottom, and pushed the “microwave” button. The display lit up, telling me to select the amount of time I wanted to heat it for, then gave me the option to adjust the power level (which I always do when heating just about anything in a microwave). I pressed the “power” button and away it went, heating my leftovers. Well, I guess I hadn’t reduced the power level enough because I started hearing the food POP inside. And we all know what that means, right? Food splattered everywhere inside the new microwave! UGH! Luckily, the surfaces inside are smooth and super easy to just wipe clean. Yeah! Next up, I thought I’d try something else that I was already familiar with: air frying. Here’s where a little bit of the learning curve comes in. The air fryer uses a glass dish, with a “crisper” laid in the bottom, to slide up onto a couple of side rails near the top inside the microwave. And the “FusionCrisp” function uses both the microwave (to cook or heat the food), then uses the air fryer function to crisp up the top. What’s really convenient is that you can set both functions to work consecutively without having to go back and manually set the next step. For instance, I had a couple of frozen French bread pizzas in my freezer. I put them in the glass dish with the crisper tray on the bottom and slid the dish onto the top rails. I selected the FusionCrisp function and the front of the unit and it walked me through the settings that I needed. First, I set the time and power level for the microwave to defrost the pizzas. Then it had me set the air fryer time and temp. After that, I just pushed the start button and waited. I watched as the unit went through the functions that I had set and, shortly thereafter, I had piping hot and crispy French bread pizza. No more defrosting in the microwave while the conventional oven heated up, then putting the pizzas in the oven and waiting another 20+ minutes. This was fabulous! I can definitely see myself using this dual functionality for much more than heating pizza! While I can’t yet address any issues with reliability, the Ninja company name gives me confidence in how this unit will perform over the years to come. The only very slight issue I had or noticed was that the noise level was a little bit higher than a regular microwave. But I can certainly put up with it in exchange for what I’ll be getting out of this unit.

For years I owned an air fryer and a microwave, and the air fryer barely earned its keep — not because it cooked poorly, but because I was forever hauling it on and off the counter so it wouldn't clutter my kitchen island. The microwave lived out permanently too. This Ninja Crispi collapses both of those into one unit, and the practical result is that I reach for air frying far more often now, simply because it's always right there. My old microwave is getting donated — I just don't need it anymore. The microwave side is excellent on its own. Setting it is intuitive, and it packs in more presets than my old one. The one I didn't know I needed is Soften Butter — melting butter used to be a guessing game, and now it comes out exactly right every time. Popcorn is perfect too. I also love that there's no turntable. My old microwave's spinning plate was always coming unseated, and the flat interior here is genuinely easier to keep clean. Where it won me over is the FusionCrisp mode. I made a baked potato where it microwaves first, then automatically switches to the crisper — something I never bothered with before because shuttling food from the microwave to a separate air fryer wasn't worth it. Set it and walk away, and the result is noticeably better with far less hands-on time. The crisper basket is smarter than I expected. There's a rail inside, so for smaller or less bulky items you slide the basket up near the top, closer to where the hot air comes out. For something big like a whole chicken, you set the basket down on the floor of the unit, which opens up the tall capacity you'd expect from a full-size standalone air fryer. That flexibility means it handles both a couple of wings and a whole bird. A few words on quality and fit: this feels well made. The door has a solid, satisfying action and the whole unit feels substantial. It's also a standard-size microwave, so it dropped right into the spot my old one occupied — no rearranging the kitchen. The child safety door lock is a nice touch if you've got little ones, and if you don't, you can simply disable it, though you quickly get used to pressing the side button to pop the door open either way. One honest note: the microwave runs about 200 watts lower than my previous one. I braced for slower cooking and simply haven't noticed a difference in my day-to-day meal prep. It's efficient and it does the job. If you're tired of two bulky appliances competing for counter space, this combination is the rare two-in-one where both halves genuinely pull their weight.
