I used to be able to crank the boat on; but I’m older now (79) and I really like having a Winch to do the job for me. Most cars probably won’t be able to provide enough power for the winch through the plug connector. I installed a small 12 Volt lithium battery on the tongue of the trailer to power the winch. The car charges it via the 7 pin round trailer light connector. Works great; worth every penny to me.

Over all this works pretty well. My boat hand crank winch died and I thought, why not? It seems strong and feels well built. I would like to give it 3.5, but not an option, and it is closer to 4 than 3, so I took off one star because: It comes with a mounting plate, and then extra holes on the bottom to permanent mount it. The holes are hard to get to for bolting it down. The one I had to use was obstructed by the cable deflector, so that took some clever doing. Also, the hand winch option spins if you are using the motor, so you can't leave it on all the time, which means that I will probably lose it by the time I end up needing it. The cords themselves are not meant to be left plugged into the machine during travel, so that also means you have to figure out a storage solution for those as well. Finally, the cords that come with it are not long enough to reach to the truck battery, but way too long for connecting to a battery that would be on the trailer. They are just a weird length. It comes with a cheap plastic wireless remote and a corded remote. The wireless one feels like a toy for a 3 year old.

Strong enough to get you unstuck and it’s mounting flexibility is the best I’ve used

I use this wench because of the flexibility of mounting options. It use it primarily with my 1943 WILLYS Jeep when on occasion I get hung up in deep ruts on the way into deer camp. The remote that is included isn’t much to talk about but for my use it’s the ability to hook this wench to anything on the front or back of the jeep and then start pulling. The last one I had lasted for over 10 years and the dry box I store it in failed during a hurricane so it became water damaged not broken from use.

It arrived quickly. Well packed. Lost a star because the instructions are not very good. The wires to hook to your battery seem to be undersized , gauge wise . I wanted to mount this in the nose end of my pick up truck bed . I watched a YouTube video showing an easy way to wire it by buying a connector box that plugs in to the trailer outlet in the pick up truck box. This did not work. The wire gauge feeding the pick up truck trailer outlet is not sufficient to run a winch . Hooking the unit directly to the truck battery and the winch worked fine although the instructions were so vague and poorly written that I didn’t understand that there was a clutch and how to set it to pull . One of those quick and easy projects that became a large project once you got in to it. There is supplied a plate that would slip over a trailer hitch ball so if your using this like that set up is a breeze . The wire was not long enough to run from my truck battery to the pick up truck bed . The gauge if wire used also was barely adequate for the 10’ length provided.
