After my old D7100 took an unceremonious dive off a balcony, I was in need of a new camera. I was planning to get a D7500, but with the sun setting on DSLR, I started researching DSLM, and settled on the Z5 as a good balance of cost to capability. I ordered the FTZ kit, so I could still use my F mount lenses. THIS THING IS AWESOME!!! All the features of my old D7100, but full frame, smaller, lighter, and quieter. The clarity and ease of use is impressive. The pivot, touch screen display is solid and responsive. At first, I wasn’t sure if I’d like the electronic viewfinder, but it is exceptionally clear and sharp. Having worked with video cameras before, it was no different than a video viewfinder. The ability to preview the final shot comes in very handy. At first, I thought the rear control wheel seemed a little stiff, but quickly realized it prevents you from inadvertently changing settings. If you are looking for your first prosumer camera, or like me, forced to migrate from DSLR, I highly recommend the Z5! ... show more

All of our previous cameras were Nikon, so when the Z mount system came out and we wanted to move to an entry level pro camera, this was the one to get. But, after buying one, running it through the paces, and it randomly focusing, we thought we had a bad one, so we returned it and purchased another. It's hard to determine the quality of the picture when some are fantastic and others aren't focused properly. It wasn't till we started watching YouTube reviews that we discovered that the focus thing appears to be a common issue with the Z5. So, we headed outside in moderate light and took some standard portrait shots. 7 out of 10 were not focused properly. So, we headed inside where we could better control the light. Same results. Even when the yellow box was showing the item of focus, it would come out blurry. It seamed the only time the focus was correct was when it would detect an eye. Well, if you are going to take professional photos, you can't expect everything you will ever take a picture of to be looking directly at the camera, so we sent it back. We're going to give the Sony a7 iii a shot. Even though it's already 3 years old, reviews sound like it's still better than the Z5, which is very disappointing. ... show more

Great camera. Low light pics are so much better on a full frame. Shooting manual, everything is easy to adjust. Also, very happy with the lens. The bag isn’t great for the camera with lens attached, so I use a different bag. I also got an extra battery, but they do last pretty long. In addition the shipping is super fast. ... show more

The Nikon Z5 is capable of excellent image quality whether shooting Raw or JPEG. Raw files provide impressive detail capture and good noise performance. Autofocus performance from the Z5 is quite good, whether shooting moving or static subjects. But video performance is not the camera's strong suit. For those migrating over from F-mount, previously unstabilized glass – mounted via Nikon's FTZ adapter – suddenly feels way steadier thanks to the in-body stabilization. And Nikon says the Z5's IS system can reduce shake by up to five stops (CIPA standard. Amazing deal when I got it for 1,199! The accessories are cheap, but get you going if you don't have any. The tripod sucks and broke before I even got to use it, you can't tighten the ball head enough before the base snaps off and the Z5 isn't a light camera so it needs to be able to clamp tight for still pictures!! ... show more
