  • Awesome lens!
This lens is sharp where it needs to be a beautifully soft where it needs to be. The only drawback I have found is the inability to rotate the tilt and shift independently. This would make the lens even more versatile.

  • great lens, works perfectly
Love this lens. Great clarity. I noted the advice about hitting the camera with it. I have so far not had a problem with that, but have had it slip when turned horizontally on my bracket. I'm careful not to tighten the screws too tight, don't want to strip them, but as a result, I have to watch it when turning the camera horizontally on the bracket. The clarity of the photos is so much better than my old lens, no comparison, and it's nice to be able to vary the f stops. Can't wait to use it on the full frame sensor body, this is not quite wide enough, but it's not bad for larger interiors, and the price is right. ... show more

  • Absolutely incredible
Finally Nikon is doing it, making top quality TS lenses. I have the 85mm PC and now 24mm PC-e and my other lenses are just boring by comparison. Granted, you have to focus manually--not a huge problem at 24mm. I can't say enough good things about this lens. at 3.5 its tack sharp. obviously it only gets better from there. the dials on the side are a little smaller than the 85mm pc--that would be my only complaint on an otherwise fantastic lens! ... show more

  • Caveat emptor on used lenses
This was a used lens listed as being in "very good" condition. I would rank it "fair." The knob controlling the tilt function is virtually unusable. It feels as if someone forced it with the locking knob tightly locked. There is also a chip out of the plastic ring where the lens hood attaches. The lens hood itself was broken. I would have returned it but needed it immediately for a job requiring the shift function. The lens itself is wonderful and I can imagine this becoming a go-to lens for my work. I'm just disappointed in the quality that was considered "very good." But it the price was right... ... show more

  • Maybe worth the money, maybe not.
First off, this lens is just great as a straight 24mm lens. The color, contrast, sharpness, and especially the lack of any distortion is really amazing. I own 2 other Nikon pro lenses in the focal length range, the 14-24 f/2.8 and the 24-70 f/2.8, and this lens is visibly better than either of them. Particularly in the lack of distortion, I'm astounded how lines in skyscrapers are perfectly straight even to the edges of the frame. No distortion correction is needed when processing my photos. However, if you think you're going to replace a view camera with this lens you're in for a big disappointment. It does not correct vertical perspectives like you would think it would. Tilting the lens changes the plane of focus, not the perspective, the only way to get architecture shots with perfectly straight lines is to keep your camera perfectly level, unlike with a view camera where you can tilt the camera and then tilt the back separately to make it parallel with the subject, and then tilt the lens to flatten the plane of focus on the tilted back. Instead, with this lens you use a shift to attempt to get the tops of buildings in a shot, and this is a problem with this lens. The coverage area on the sensor using this lens is not particularly large, so even shifting about 2/3rds of the available range results in a loss of sharpness and significant falloff. The tilt function takes a lot of getting used to. In my usage I’ve found that it helps in tilting and keeping the aperture open instead of stopping way down. However, even small tilts make a difference, the difference between 2 and 3 degrees is noticeable, one works and one doesn’t. The only use I’ve found for extreme tilts so far is to create the toy effect, but if that is what you want to do just get a Lensbaby or even cheaper yet just use software. If you take a look on Flickr for examples shot with this lens you will see a whole lot of that and a lot fewer examples of tilting this lens for what it was made for. The mechanics are terrible. The knobs are almost impossible to get a good grip on. I find my self positioning the shift with the lock loose then rotating the lens to get a good enough grip to lock the shift. From what I understand, Nikon will replace the knobs with bigger ones, but as there is very little room under the pentaprism I think a better idea would be to have a small lever you could use to go between lock and unlock. The small lever used to rotate the lens is also an issue, I find myself constantly searching for it, especially in the dark. A big issue is the inability to switch the tilt orientation. With Canon lenses this can be done by the owner, but with Nikon you have to send it in to have it done, as they have to replace a circuit board with one with a longer cable. If you have this done and decide to switch it back, you have to send it back to Nikon or your warranty will be voided if you do it yourself. It costs about $150 to switch the orientation. I’ve been using this lens almost every day for the past month, finding its strengths. My photos are better than shooting with either of the lenses mentioned above. It is really great with a panorama head. The biggest question is if my photos are $2,000 better. I think it will differentiate me enough to eventually pay for itself, your mileage may vary. ... show more

Must have lens for any serious architecture shooter. It's simply amazing how wide you can shift side to side or up and down for seamless panoramas. There's some vignetting and softness at the extreme edges but there's plenty you can capture without going to the edge. The fact you can focus down to 2" is an added benefit. Optics are top notch, as you'd expect for a $2k lens. ... show more

  • Wide Angle TILT/SHIFT Lens
This is the TILT/SHIFT lens suitable for architecture. There is an 85mm suitable for tabletop product photography. Ask for help from an experienced photographer who has used this, or a similar lens, extensively. I was fortunate. If no one can help, be prepared to watch some videos on the topic.
