This isn’t the “S” lens, so do not expect perfection, but it is great for the price. Some CA is sometimes present and the contrast is a bit soft wide open, but it does provide a nice “3D pop” and the imperfections actually give it a bit of character.     • Excellent lens !!
I have whole slew of Nikon F mount lenses and for me Z is a travel kit with z6 ii 14 to 30 f4 , and 24 to 120 f 4 along with 85 1.8 lens all S line lens .. so I am spoilt for sharpness even when looking at the pictures through the camera screen on z6 II … The first picture I clicked wide open and looked on the camera screen was soft smooshy.. I was like , let me return the lens .. the softness was on par with me shooting off brand lenses on D90 … I wanted to get my D850 to use CFE card .. I updated the D850 to latest firmware and inserted the CFE which was in Z6ii … the pictures from z35 1.4 looked considerably sharper, when seen on D850 screen .. I was like let me edit the pictures.. when processed through Lightroom .. the files are gorgeous… the eyes are in focus, skin is smooth and the background is beautiful.. love my S line lenses but sometimes feel that they are harsh on human skin .. the micro contrast makes pores literally pop out on closeups … Don’t judge the lens when you see it on the camera screen when shooting raw !! ... show more

    • A 35 1.4 with character.
I bought this to be a part of a 2 lens portrait kit, to be paired with the 85 1.8s. The 35 1.4, while not an "S" lens, is still plenty sharp and renders beautifully. It's not as well corrected as it's "S lens" brothers, but that makes it a perfect lens for someone who likes a lens with "character". It does have chromatic aberrations, but these days, it's easy to fix in post. If you are looking for a Z mount 35, I highly recommend this one. ... show more

    • My favorite lens for everyday and travel use!
This lens rarely comes off my camera since I've received it. It's smallish size, fast AF performance, and amazing optical character makes it perfect for everyday photography, environmental portraits, and for me it makes a wonderful travel lens. I own several "S" lenses as well, and other than the lack of weather sealing, I haven't noticed any lack of performance, comparatively. I actually prefer the way these 1.4 lenses render images over the higher quality "S" lenses. Amazing bokeh and performance! ... show more

lens is good but I am trying to find excuse to keep it. I comparing it to viltrox 15mm 1.7 f. Its way sharper and also the focus dept at wide open better ! He Nikon is not that sharp at wide open and also your focus point is little off and you will have things not sharp :( worth to pay 2.5 more for lower performance ? I am sure its better when it comes to distortion ! It bit bulky also ! ... show more

This has become my go-to lens when working the crowds in the street or performances in the small honky-tonks I frequent. Fast but not light i find the weight helps steady the lens at slow shutter speeds. In all, I am quite impressed, especially since its price is less than Nikon's 1.8 version of the same lens. ... show more
