    • I get the value of premium lenses now
I often heard people say that the optics in premium lenses were much sharper and more refined than those in standard lenses. I didn’t buy into the argument, since the images produced by the standard lenses I used looked adequate to me. Then I took some photos with a friend’s 85mm f/1.8 S-line lens, and it was like putting on a new pair of glasses and suddenly realizing how bad my vision had been. Looking back at photos taken with my standard lenses, artifacts I’d grown used to ignoring or quickly correcting—like ghosting and chromatic aberration—became much more noticeable. There’s no turning back now. I’m starting with the 24mm, which, in my brief experience, has been just as sharp as the 85mm S-line lens. I was surprised by its weight—it’s a heavy chunker, solidly built. I was impressed by the subject separation in a few headshots I took. I wasn’t expecting much given the wide angle, but the bokeh, though not as creamy as the 85mm, was still significant. Overall, a good value. ... show more

While I own a 24-70 f/2.8 zoom having the extra speed of a 1.8 is handy and when it's time to "Travel Light" and shoot in close quarters with low light this is ideal. The edge to edge sharpness is excellent and it appears to have a slight bit less edge distortion than the zoom. A great lens for hitting the streets as well. Don't expect shallow DOF and big time bokeh, on a wide angle it ain't a happening. Expect tack sharp images and great perspective and you won't be let down. ... show more

    • Good lens but has vignetting
Sharpness is good but has heavy vignetting. Mine was very decentered so had to return. I like the focal length but haven't replaced it yet due to the vignetting.

The NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S lens that i purchased at a fair price, has done a nice job for me in taking close-ups, especially of small animals. A definite recommendation for your Nikon Z6 or Z7 camera
