Features

  • Exquisite Bokeh. Add spectacular drama and style to photos and videos with large, round bokeh that spreads across the entire frame, right to the edges.
  • Fast, accurate, near silent AF. Nikons Multi-Focus System uses dual STM stepping motors moving in sync for enhanced precision. The ultra-fast system operates in near-silence, so you can track moving subjects without mechanical noises or vibrations.
  • Cut through flare. Nikons most advanced anti-reflective coatings, Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat, are combined to overcome the harshest light coming from multiple directions. Assignable Fn button. Carefully placed for easy reach during vertical or horizontal shooting.
  • Advanced controls. The manual focus ring can be set to either rotation direction, linear or non-linear; the Control ring is clickless for smooth and precise adjustments to aperture, ISO, exposure compensation and more.

  • Peerless portrait lens.
Wow...I'm blown away by the image quality! Superior Bokeh. Epic color rendition with minimal chromatic aberration. Fast autofocus motors on my Z8. Eye tracking in this lens seems to have received a boost in performance, although I can't explain how that would happen. Amazing quality to portraits when stopped down...this is now my go-to lens for portraits. I've never been this excited by lens quality - Plena sets the bar high. Sadly...Nikon cost cutting has hit the Plena as well. Cheap plastic lens filter threads. A sock for a lens bag. Not made in Japan. I won't return it for those failings nor reduce the star count...but definitely wait for it to go on sale. ... show more

  • One of the best lenses ever made
Yes, all of the raves are correct. This is among the best lenses ever made and clearly superior to my older Nikon stuff and my Sigma 135 and Zeiss 135. I tested directly against my Sigma 135 ART, which I still feel is delivering 95% of the Plena and is really about as good for Portraits. But the Plena is native, focuses faster and does retain better bokeh overall. If you can't afford the Plena, the Sigma 135 ART would be a good alternative, but you'll need the adapter. Beyond that? The Plena is one of Nikon's finest achievements, a true masterpiece of optical designing and art. Portrait shooters can add the 50mm 1.2 and the 85mm 1.2 and never look back. This is now on the level of what we used to call exotic glass. Bravo! ... show more

  • Wonderful Lens
Broke the piggy-bank to buy this and glad I did. Now, I'm struggling with a decision to buy the 85mm f1.2

  • The perfect lens
I bought this to try out for an upcoming trip. Holy cow. The images are SO beautiful. You’d have to pry this lens out of my fingers now that I have it. Perfect sharpness, image quality, bokeh. Only weakness is AF sluggishness as it seeks through the whole focus range sometimes.

  • One of the best lenses ever made
This lens is absolutely incredible; beautiful images that just pop, gorgeous colors, the creamiest backgrounds, razor sharp. I can't recommend it enough.

  • Beyond AMAZING...
This lens is above and beyond all the videos I have watched on it. Even wide open at f1.8 there's so much detail in each photo. I do not want to shoot with anything else and don't mind stepping back to get more in view so I don't lose quality and clarity of any photo. The absolute best high end lense I've ever shot with. ... show more

  • I did not need it but I love it.
I decided to purchase this because it was just too tempting. I am not a professional photographer, so the price held me back briefly, but my curiosity eventually broke me. Furthermore, I usually photograph birds with my 600mm but have been looking to branch out to other types of photography and continue to fill my Z9 lens kit. I also have the 105mm f/2.8 macro lens, which is why I really did not need this one, but I am glad I purchased it. The Bokeh is a bit better on this lens. So far, I have only used it for some closeup flower shots and some portraits. Both of which resulted in shots that I am overwhelmingly pleased with. I look forward to more experimenting with this lens, especially in lower light situations that I have not had a chance to experience yet. ... show more
