  • Brand New Gray Market Instead of Refurbished
Having ordered from the Amazon renewed section, I was surprised when a virgin Nikon D780 with zero shutter activations arrived. The only thing that wasn't brand new was the box - worn and no cellophane, but the box serial number did match the camera's. An attached disclaimer sticker stated "(1) this may be an imported product not originally intended for sale in the USA (2) seller is not an authorized dealer of the manufacturer." So I got a gray market but pristine D780. All the peripherals were new and in original cellophane wrappings. The only thing not included was the manual, which I understand Nikon stopped printing because it's online. A word on the D780 within the Nikon lineup. Nikon is obviously migrating to mirrorless cameras. This shows in their extensive Z camera line. The writing is on the wall with the flagship Z9. Despite being the best commercial camera ever produced, the Z9 is still priced a thousand dollars lower than Nikon's top pro F mount D6. IMHO the D780 is Nikon's farewell to the F mount, into which they have crammed as many Z camera advances as they could. In Live View mode, working from the camera's rear screen, it is effectively a native F mount Z6. Of course this Z6 flavor is lost through the optical viewfinder. But Nikon deserves credit for going farther than any other camera manufacturer to bring mirrorless camera convenience to a legacy lens mount that goes back to the 1960s. Thank you Nikon for giving me an option to keep all my old F lenses functioning up to mid 2020s standards. For somebody starting out in photography, I would unhesitatingly recommend that they go mirrorless. But Nikon hasn't forgotten us geezers with a load of old lenses, giving us the D780 as a much appreciated last F mount hurrah. When setting up my gray market D780, the default time zone was Japan. The only menu language options were Japanese and English - no Spanish option as in USA Nikons I have purchased. So the camera's original destination looks like Japan. After a week of camera setup and shooting over three hundred pics, everything seems perfect with the camera. Every Nikon autofocus lens I have, plus one Tokina, worked and focused as they should. The manual focus lenses had to have their focal length and maximum aperture programmed in, and also work correctly. I live in Costa Rica and have my Amazon purchases sent to me by a Miami freight forwarder. Given my circumstances, a 28% discount for a brand new D780 is more than I had hoped for. I'm a lifelong Nikon shooter and have purchased their cameras new, used and refurbished in the USA, Costa Rica, and Panama. I take good care of them and have never needed a Nikon camera repair, so the lack of a USA warranty is no big deal for me. Thanks Amazon for a super deal on a super camera. ... show more

  • Awesome Camera!!!
Nikon has been my go to camera brand for 30+ years. I love the advanced features on this D780 over previous Nikon DSLR camera. Without the owners manual, initial setup was difficult. This camera most likely is a grey market camera, but it doesn’t affect the performance. Another photographer helped setup my camera, so I was very pleased and love the settings. The eye focus is a great feature. Overall I love this camera! I think I would have been overwhelmed by the D850. The size of the D780 fits my hand well. ... show more

  • Fantastic Deal on a Super Camera!
Was apprehensive about purchasing "renewed", but decided that Amazon has such a great return policy, there wasn't really much risk, so I pulled the trigger and ordered the Renewed Nikon D780 with a Renewed Nikon 24-120 F4 Zoom. The description was spot on (no sign of wear AT ALL, even up close and detailed inspection. No dust, no smudges...absolutely pristine)....I thought, wow, this camera was really "babied"! I charged the battery and took a few "test" pictures of the junk on my desk and walking around the office. Transferred my last picture to my PC and uploaded it to the Nikon Shutter Count site. WOW! 18 (eighteen) Shutter Activations. This thing is BRAND NEW! I feel like a won the lottery. ... show more

  • Don't buy this DSLR...
I bought the D780 to be my first FX DSLR to be able to grow with my future photography, but I soon learned that the lens manufacturers were phasing out the f mount cameras and lens in favor of the mirrorless generation. Soon you will only be able to get lenses used and if you are ok with that not having a manufacturers warranty then get an f mount camera. I suggest that you do a lot of thinking on what is best for your photography. In my opinion DSLR cameras are going the way of the dinosaurs. Do your research, I personally like the D780 ... I just can't in good conscience recommend it. ... show more

  • Superior Camera
The latest and perhaps last of Nikon's DLSRs. Has many of the features of the Z6 mirrorless cameras. Most importantly, I can still use my older Nikon lenses. A bit heavy to carry around all day. Appears to be a new camera, no evidence that it was refurbished. Highly recommended at this price.

  • Incomplete shipment
Camera shipped without usb cable to download pictures and I cannot find on google or amazon or Nikon which cable will download the images. Amazon recommended the wrong cable..I'm returning it. Company that sent the camera is completely unresponsive.

  • It was new!
Edit: 40k shots later, and many hours of video, still as good as new This camera was new, never been shot! One issue that I could notice after 2 thousand pictures taken already, is that it froze up reading different SD cards, 3 times. Take out the battery, install it back again and you are set. No huge deal, only lost the last 5 pictures taken before freezing up. ... show more

  • I like this camera a lot
It's a really good DSLR. All cameras have pros and cons relative to other cameras, and there are a gazillion reviews online that can help you make a decision. In my case, this (refurbished) was what I needed and was worth it. Without comparing it to other cameras, I have only enjoyed using this one. I love the HDR function, the autofocus on the touchscreen, the superb low-light performance, the whole thing really. The problem though, is that I love most cameras. ... show more
