Camera works as expected. The reviews on the various camera blogs and review websites are spot on - this is a great starter camera. Very easy to use and takes wonderful pictures. The zoom capability is phenomenal. My only complaint is that the software bundle that comes with the camera doesn't support the camera, but that's not the camera's fault, nor the seller's. Corel Aftershot Pro 3 does not list this camera in their support and you are unable to import files into it (check the website on supported cameras and you'll see that only the CoolPix 1000 is supported. I tried installing the CoolPix 1000 camera profile to see if it would read my RAW images and it wouldn't, it's an issue with Corel and I'm hoping they'll add support for this camera in a coming patch as it's a relatively new camera on the market). The remaining programs in the bundle appear to work well, though when loading RAW files into Photoshop gives a prompt to use Aftershot instead, which doesn't really work at the moment due to Corel not including support for the camera. In regards to the bundle, if you're looking to buy this camera, purchase a larger tripod (I bought a 60-inch one here on Amazon for $29). The tripod included in this bundle is 12" high, which is great if you're setting the camera on your desk or a table, but isn't very practical if you're planning on doing the famous moon shots (or any other 2000mm zooming). Now on to the camera: The camera has a lot of user-friendly settings, making it a great beginner camera. Even the default "auto" setting is great for point & click shooting. It's not a DSLR and it does suffer from having a smaller sensor, but this camera still packs a punch with what it can do. I tried using it in higher ISO ranges (3200+) and the pics were noticeably grainy (due to smaller sensor). That said, you are most likely not going to use this camera for night shots (unless it's a moon shot, of course, and even then, it's slightly grainy). This camera does, however, excel at day shots, which is where most of the zoom features will be used to their fullest potential (ISO 100 or 200 during the day are really terrific shots). I took lots of really amazing and crisp close-up shots of birds, squirrels, rabbits, lizards, and other animals that are skittish around humans from a range of about 20-25 feet. Very high level of detail, too. The camera is THAT good. This is a good camera to take with you to the zoo or on a hiking trip. The 4k video at 30 fps is good for beginner in video (though I actually prefer recording on this camera using 1080p at 60 fps). I was able to extract some pretty good stills with either format. Due to the smaller sensor, this camera doesn't track moving objects with a high degree of accuracy when it comes to focusing. If you're trying to record or capture images at sporting events, this isn't the camera to use. It does a decent job despite it's limitations and there is a "sport" setting on it to help with focusing on moving objects, but this camera can't compete with the larger sensors on a DSLR. I managed to get some good, crisp pictures of a fire in the grill/firepit with a high shutter speed setting. As mentioned above, there are all sorts of "auto" settings that are preset into the camera - food, night, landscape, sports, sunset, macro, etc. It also has the manual modes to adjust aperture and shutter speed. There's also a "user" mode where you can manually adjust and store the aperture and shutter speed settings for easy access/swapping between modes. The landscape mode has an HDR setting for highly detailed shots. The ergonomics of the camera are great. The grip is very well designed. It feels great in the hands. It's not a heavy camera, almost feels identical to a DSLR. Only issue with the camera's ergonomics (that even the professionals on camera websites complain about) is the lack of a touch screen LED. It would make getting through the menus a lot easier. It's not really a big deal, but it would have been a nice feature. All in all, it's a great camera. Worth every penny if you're just getting into photography. The zoom features are what really make this camera shine. If you want quality at closer ranges and higher megapixels, buy a DSLR. If you want the superzoom capabilities with a camera that takes fairly decent pictures throughout the entire 24-2000mm range, this is your camera. It's a niche camera and the price is definitely cheaper than buying all the lenses needed to reach the same zoom capabilities on a DSLR. Plus it's a lot lighter than a DSLR with all those lenses. If your goal is to only upload pictures to Instagram or other social media platforms, then this camera will more than do the job. ... show more

I reviewed so many cameras before choosing this one. Many people state no instructions are in the box, however a detailed quick start guide is and the on line Nikon guide is easily accessible and easy to follow. I chose this because I was tired of lugging separate lenses around. So far it appears to take clear crisp pictures and has all the ability for setting choices as any DSLR. You only sacrifice prime lenses. Zoom capability is amazing - I can zero in on the wildlife in the trees a block down the street. The camera is heavy so for a long trek might get tiring to carry. I’ve always been a Nikon fan and as usual Nikon does not disappoint. I will need to revisit this review after I have had more time to explore and settle in. I will include samples then. Great camera if you want to really zoom out. NOW, this has like the second best "OPTICAL" zoom out there in camera land. The first best is the NIkon P1100. BUT, the 1100 is much bigger, ungainly and heavier noticably. Not to mention quite a bit more expensive. So, this is NOT cheap at all, but is still usable like a regular zoom camera if at the upper end of that category... The 1100 crosses over imho. But, in the case I bought (faux leather), it doesn't attract the attention of people who like to steal things like an 1100 will if you know what I mean. My wife has a Minolta with a 62 or 63 zoom and that is actually convinced me to finally buy one. I've always wanted a Nikon since my old analog days of photography. I'd even recommend the one she got for a regular person with some interest in optical zoom but not over the top. They are very reasonable in price. This is an investment for sure but is fantastic in terms of its professional level adjustment capabilities and its long optical reach. Meets all my needs for sure. Pic quality is fantastic. Zoom is amazing. We live in the mountains and my first pic was of a rock about a half mile maybe a bit more away we can see from our front door that is the first to get sunlight in the morning. It's just a big rock in the forest up the side of a mountain. I did full optical zoom on the rock as the sun hit it and showed it to my wife. She asked where it was and I told her. She went out looked and said, Wow, it's like you are standing up there. Her Minolta even at 63 zoom doesn't do that. Now she's envious... ... show more

Thus far I am quite happy with this camera. The quality of the pictures are very good. As with any new camera, it's going to take practice to master all of its nuances, so expect a learning curve. Remember, when all else fails read the instructions. I did have a small issue with a missing memory card, but the folks at Beach Camera promptly sent me a replacement. I found their customer service to be excellent. The included camera bag worked well, hauling camera and accessories safely on our first road trip. This is not a professional level camera, but if you want to have fun and get some great pictures it will definitely help you do that. If you have higher expectations you'll need to spend a lot more money and take some classes. ... show more

Amazon customer service was not helpful either. Amazon claimed they couldn't refund the portion of bundle and only option I had was to return the item and purchase it again.
