  • Without the super zoom I would never have got any of these shots. Without the super zoom I would never have got any of these shots.
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
This is my fourth Nikon Coolpic super zoom. The greatest cameras for bird and animal life when traveling. I have Canon Pro equipment but when hitting the road the combination of super zoom and performance in these cameras is extraordinary. I started with the P900 then two P1000’s and now a P1100. No you are not going to get a 80 meg file but if you learn how to use this camera you will get extraordinary shots you couldn’t get with anything else because of the super zoom. Don’t believe me? check out my FB page where you will see. Going on a safari to Africa this is camera you need. We do a lot of nature photography down here near Marineland in Florida. Extraordinary bird shots. The P1100 is the best del you will ever get capabilities against price and if you view the results on a new iPad your photos will blow your mind! ... show more

  • NoW no more sensor filth to remove off my sensor or images!! Poor tracking in bird-tracking mode NoW no more sensor filth to remove off my sensor or images!! Poor tracking in bird-tracking mode
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
WE are both many decades photographers with real cameras, heavy cameras, but my wife - being smarter than me - years ago purchased a bridge camera P900 to add to her camera bag, and loved it. A few years ago, she upgraded to the newer P1000 and it's still a great camera and while it will NEVER match the quality and sharpness of a real SLR camera with sharper quality lenses, that bulky P1000 is not shabby at all. With years of using the coolpix bridge cameras, she's gotten very used to handholding the camera to get some great images. All of my life I've shot with film, then swapping over to digital cameras and "loving" having to clean the sensor, and now with my current brand of Sony digital cameras, notorious for the sensors and dust spots, I spend almost as much time cleaning sensors AS I do creating images! I finally got upset enough to buy meself a P1100, of course one up on her P1000, and yesterday went out for a first time shoot with the new P1100, and I was impressed! Not the greatest results against my current Sony A7cii and big heavy lenses, but the pleasure was in knowing I wouldn't ever have to clear off dust off a sensor, NOR filth off my images!! What will I do with all the free time I'll have now, just going out to record more memories and NOT have to clean out the filthy dirt off my images? Only my heart and SD cards know for sure!! A few first images with the P1100 below. UPDATE: Warning: the bird-watching mode does not operate as a true camera does. Even with continuous tracking, in bird mode, and focusing on a test subject, it does NOT follow the bird. With my Sony a7cii, the tracking will focus on, and following the birds in flight or not, and each image will be sharp. This does NOT seem to do that function well. It doesn't do well in focus NOR track in active mode or with shutter in continuous tracking mode. If I'm doing something wrong tell me, because I'm doing this with experience with real cameras and first-time with this bridge camera. ... show more

  • Zoom is incredible but camera is delicate
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
The zoom range is absolutely incredible (even before you hit digital zoom range). I have two minor complaints. First complaint is the controls are not consistent with higher end Nikon cameras (D850, Z7, etc). If you are used to those cameras learning the controls on the P1100 takes a bit of practice. Second some of the intermediate/advanced features are hard to get to (example Bracketing setting requires opening a menu and making 2 or 3 selections to change the setting). Video quality is very good however due to stabilization if you zoom far and don't use a tripod you get stuttering in the video scene which is an effect of the stabilization trying to compensate. Other think to be aware of is this is a lightweight camera. All plastic. It feels "delicate" and feels like it wouldn't take much to damage it vs. other Nikon cameras. The "Bird" mode works great. If you want a powerful zoom at a cheap price this is the way to go. If you want durability and advanced options, not so much there. ... show more

  • This is my favorite camera -- have used about 20 other cameras This is my favorite camera -- have used about 20 other cameras
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
The P1100 is a mirrorless camera with all of the main controls you will find on an interchangeable lens camera. It shoots both RAW and JPEG. It is very good shooting in AUTO mode, but also allows manually controlling aperture and shutter speed and ISO and white balance. Also the P1100 menu system lets you choose spot focus, wide focus. Also offers pretty good manual focusing using a nice fat ring. Also offers focus peaking, and display of histogram to detect whether part of your photo is too dark or too light. Also has the best control of exposure compensation of any camera I have ever used, including three pro level cameras, two by Sony, one by Canon. And allows you to use exposure compensation while shooting in AUTO, which is sadly lacking in my high end Sony. Let me briefly explain exposure compensation if you've never used it, because it can be very very useful. The camera automation will have its own idea of how to achieve proper exposure. The exposure compensation control allows you to look at other alternative exposures, which are often better than the camera's choice. For example, if you are taking a photo of a very dark subject, your camera automation may expose for the entire scene, leaving the dark subject so poorly lit that you cannot see detail. With exposure compensation, you can increase the amount of light on the subject and show the detail clearly. I find the P1100 does very well shooting on AUTO, but you can adjust shutter or aperture or ISO to your tastes. As someone who has also owned a high end full frame camera (Sony A7RM4) and a high end crop sensor camera (Canon 7D mark 2) I can say this camera delivers absolutely sharp photos while outdoors in good light, either landscapes or wildlife, with one exception. Not good for flying birds or very fast moving subjects. For flying birds my Sony A7 and Canon 7D are way superior because they focus very fast. But they cost about five times as much. You can take photos indoors, but I find my iPhone 13 works better indoors, and has the advantage of ultra wide angle, going to maximum wide angle of 13mm. . But not half as well outdoors. I started out with a Nikon P900, liked it, got a Nikon P1000 in 2019, that is almost identical to the P1100. I only bought the P1100 just in case my P1000 stops working. But now am shooting just with the P1100, leaving the P1000 as backup. Why I love the P1100/P1000. In reasonably good daylight (before dusk) this camera delivers excellent picture quality. It is absolutely fabulous for wildlife, because it is very lightweight when compared with interchangeable lens cameras using long telephoto lens. It will capture photos of distant subjects that a professional full frame cannot, because that ultra long lens at 3000mm can capture sharp closeups where a pro camera with a horribly 200-600mm zoom levels will struggle, even with a 2x extender. Perhaps a bit less dynamic range than my Sony A7 that costs 5 times as much, but equally sharp. I attach a few photos of an osprey at 3000mm and a closeup of a tiny frog barely visible to the naked eye at a distance of about 200 feet. Long telephoto is not just for distant subjects. It can also be for very small subjects that are quite close. Another great feature is the exposure compensation control located on the lens barrel rather than on the body of the camera so you can get exactly the right exposure without taking your eye away from the viewfinder. Personally I use the P1100 with an LCD monitor costing around $30 that covers the LCD with a giant eyecup that excludes daylight, as shown in the attached photo of my P1100 on a tripod. ... show more

  • Great zoom camera
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
I purchased this before going on a trip to Alaska. It did a great job at photographing bear, sheep, moose, fox and caribou from long distances away. The clarity is awesome. Even though is has some stability built in, when taking the zoom out to a max, you will need a tripod to keep things steady. It was great at takings video/pics from different distances. The other tourist we were with were amazed at how close I could get. I took a picture of a glazier about a half mile away, then zoomed in on it to see the crystal formation on the glazier (as if I were 50 feet away). ... show more

  • Fantastic camera
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
Love this camera. It is amazing. Funny thing is I thought the weight would be a problem, because the lighter camera I used previously was hard to hold on target; and the thought of holding more weight made me believe my waving would be even worse. But the weight actually helps steady the camera more for those critical shots. Zoom is amazing. ... show more

  • Yes, big telephoto but . . .
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
I had a less powerful Coolpix 900 that I gave to a granddaughter. Seems to me it had much sharper fully extended pictures than this1100. Nikon should have retired this model.

  • Fun camera to play with, despite some limitations Fun camera to play with, despite some limitations
Style: Bundle / Digital Camera
I bought this camera primarily for astrophotography: Moon and Sun (with appropriate filters!!!). With a 125x zoom, you can get excellent shots of the Moon, provided you use a very stable tripod and a remote shutter and appropriate filters. Same for the Sun. Camera: fantastic zoom capability, very good optics. Adequate functionality. Nikon is purposefully limiting the range of functions and controls available to users, particularly remote functions. Ie: the Snapbridge app is a full function app for Nikon 35mm mid and up market cameras but severly restricted for the P1100 and Nikon's user manual is purposefully vague about the limitations imposed on this camera. That said, if you are looking for a camera with good optics and a powerful zoom, this is it! I am very happy with mine. ... show more
