  • So nice I bought it twice
It's only gen 1 night vision but the fact It has a legit image intensifier tube and not digital makes it amazing for the price. It's great for stargazing and just walking around the woods just make sure you read the manual if you are unfamiliar with nv's to make sure you don't sure you don't accidentally damage the tube from over light exposure. 4 stars because the odd camera battery is not included, and the lens cap, it's very loose fitting meaning if youre playing with this in day light and it falls off you may cause damage, I fixed it by wrapping tape around the cap to snug it up. Made in russia, so I wonder how much longer this wonderful gateway to real nightvision will be available. ... show more

  • Great price for indoor use
For the Price, it's great for moving around in dark close spaces. I recommend finding a way to secure the lens cap, but other than that, it's a fun toy

  • It's a fun toy, just understand what you are getting.
This won't impress anyone who has looked through gen3 NODs, but its a great entry point into intensifier tube optics. Very minor blemishes in the tube, haloing like you would expect from old RU tube tech, but its still a legitimate intensifier, unlike all the digital crap that sells for a similar price. Battery life is MUCH better than the digital options. I really liked the separate tactile switches for the tube power and the illuminator. IR beam is okay, nothing to write home about. Only downside is it requires CR123 batteries, which I don't usually keep around. I would love a unit like this that ran on 18650s or even 3 AAs, but that's a minor complaint. I wish they had a 1x version. In summary: This isn't a tactical unit. It's a toy. However, it's by far the best NV unit you can buy for the price ($120). ... show more

  • Pretty much the same as any other gen 1 NV
Took it out at night into some fields and forests. In a moonlit field, its honestly not very useful, as the moonlight, once your eyes adjust, shows about as much as this does. In the forest, with the infrared on, it worked pretty well, allowed me to move around on a trail. The fact its just 2x means its useful at close distances too. One downside, since you are looking at a bright screen an inch away from your eye, whatever eye you look into the device with loses all the nightvision in that eye. Once you take the device off your eye, it has to spend 10 minutes readjusting to the darkness. It does feel durable, and the controls are very easy to figure out. ... show more

  • Excellent Small NV Unit
I am very happy with this night vision unit. It works well. I like the 2x factor so it gives you just a little magnification but you keep a very wide field of view. It is perfect for walking around in the woods or looking into your wooded backyard. The night vision gen 1 works great along with the IR light. I have seen people complaining about focus. Remember that you must focus the eyepiece (where you eyes goes) in the daytime in your house on a wall WITH the front cover still on the unit. Once you focus here you should never have to change that. You will however be constantly focusing the large ring on the end of the unit according to whatever distance you are looking at. The large ring takes a little effort to move. The small ring near your eye is a little loose and moves easily. Once I focused the small ring I made a mark with a sharpie so that I would know exactly where that small ring should be all the times before I head out at night. 5 stars for me. ... show more

  • Annoyingly mediocre
I wouldn't label this thing as garbage. I does work, but there's more negatives than positives. Pros.. Smaller than I thought. Light weight. Simple controls and easy to use. Good picture (gen 1) in bright moonlight or a small amount of ambient light. And it takes a common battery size...CR123A. Cons... The lens cap won't stay on. Focus ring is very very stiff but the diopter moves almost too easily. The IR emitter is horrible and weak. It doesn't show a spot light or lighted area like others...but instead sort of a choppy ring light made up of brighter a darker rings with a dull center. The lack of a decent IR emitter makes this unit almost unusable beyond 20 meters. ... show more

  • 500x amplification is questionable
Very weak performance... glass has a lot of distortion around the perimeter. Good form factor just weak low light performance. My unit had no noticeable blemishes in the viewable area. This is not my first unit in the night vision game so I am making a fair evaluation.

  • Great Night Vision! Perfect for a walkabout trail unit.
I have used Gen III military NVGs so I have a direct comparison. For GEN I NV, these monoculars are a spectacular deal! They have a very crisp image far beyond anything I would expect out of a sub 150 NV setup. Don't be afraid of others' negative reviews. You must focus both the objective lens and the eyepiece lens to get a good image, this is NOT evident in the instructions. Also, the lower the magnification, the wider field of view will be. Using nightvision while moving is difficult with magnification. With lower magnification, you will pick up your surroundings easier, so the 2x is perfect. Pictures do not give you a sense of scale of the unit. The 2x is palm sized, akin to a small digital camera. The NV comes with a nylon carring case with a loop for a belt and a lens cloth. Important note: BATTERIES ARE NOT INCLUDED. You need 1 CR123A battery. You will be very satisfied with this product! ... show more
