I had my doubts, but I put this in our pond and within seconds it started working. Very simple setup - just connect the hose and drop it in. I cut the hose shorter for my pond since it's only about 2ft deep, but there is plenty of hose for deeper ponds. It's just the right size for a small pond. It makes no sounds and doesn't see to bother my fish. It's a simple setup that should last a long time.

I had it for a week and when it worked it worked really well, but then a week later it stopped working. I took it apart to see if maybe something was in it. Only to find that the wires came off the solar panel. I sadly can’t solder it back together otherwise I’m sure it would work again.

This self contained little solar aerator is as simple as can be! It has a circle of solar panels, a center cone with air intakes, a pump, backup battery, air hose with check valve and air stone. I haven't been able to test it on a fully sunny day but It has no difficulty producing a generous stream of bubbles even when it's partly cloudy, or with the light from my cell phone, when it's dark. The backup battery, is supposed to keep it going overnight, but that isn't happening at this time. I don't love the on off cycling but understand that feature allows it to get the most run time out of a given amount of power, whether it's coming from the sun or battery. I feel like it might work more reliably overnight if the battery were bigger or if it had two batteries instead of one. The pump and battery compartment are sealed so there is no easy way to modify it.

The NFESOLAR Solar Aerator for Ponds was simple to setup. And is working. It cycles on and off about every ten seconds. This is mentioned in the product description but I miss it. I do not like this feature. At first I thought the air pump was a little loud, but walking two or three steps away from it, I could no longer hear it. The air hose kinks, so be careful of that. It produces a good amount of air bubbles and my fish like playing in them.

It's still freezing where I live so I can't put it in the water but I can tell you the product is a quality build. I will use it in a lagoon that we swim in (no fish) and in the heat of the summer it seems no amount of chlorine tablets takes care of the algae. I suspect that the water needs this device to keep circulation going. I love that it is solar and no plugs to deal with. Just toss it in and sit back.

The aerator has relatively simple assembly, though the included booklet has only minimal information about using this aerator, doesn't have any close-up pictures for assembly, and is more a comparison of all of this brand's aerator options. There's no guidance on positioning the check valve, so it's assumed you're already familiar with using these valves (the closure piece faces the pump line and air pressure pushes the piece open against the springs towards the air stone). There was also a sort of glue/film over one of the valve tube connectors that fully covered the valve hole and had to be opened for the valve to be functional. This aerator model doesn't have any external switches and does cycle on/off automatically. The motor does make some noise, but it's not overly loud.
