  • Excellent laptop
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Color: Blue
I was amazed at the quality of laptop for the price. I was worried that the specs or quality would be off due to the cost, but boy was I wrong. I’ve had this for several days now under heavy office use for my job and it’s blazing fast and handles multitasking exceptionally well. This model performs like a $600 laptop that would be brand new with all the bells and whistles. All in all, I am very satisfied and the laptop looks brand new and the specs were verified once I did a system check. It’s legit! Just remember to do all your system updates once you get it up and running past the welcome screen and you will be good to go with this workhorse. ... show more

  • USB-C data only? For a 2022 computer?
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Color: Blue
I've been looking for a new laptop. This is the third one I've bought, and I'll probably end up keeping it against my better judgement just because I'm tired of looking. My main issue is that the product listing says this is a new 2022 model. And it comes with USB-C data only. None of my docking stations work with it at all. It doesn't send video. No charging. It doesn't recognize etherrnet. It doesn't recognize a mouse or keyboard or anything besides a USB storage device. Yes, you can use the HDMI port on the laptop and that works fine. And it has two USB A ports for a keyboard and mouse and you can hope you don't need anything else. And you can pray you don't lose or damage the charger, because it is of course non-standard. I move between my desk and other areas enough that plugging and unplugging all of the peripherals multiple times a day is not a good thing. This isn't the highest end laptop, but for the price missing this functionality makes no sense. My $150 chromebooks have had this for years, as have all of my work laptops from a variety of manufacturers. You might ask why I'm on my third laptop and why I still keep making this error? The product copy of this on Amazon doesn't mention it either way. But, I had other questions, and found the model on other websites and the HP website, and those indicated a docking station was supported. The previous one I returned to Amazon because it specifically said it had support and didn't. The first one I returned somewhere else, because I saw USB-C and charging/monitors have been supported for so long, I just assumed this would work, plus one of the pictures talked about USB-C and had a picture of multiple monitors but had photoshopped all the wires out and they said after the picture was showing using the HDMI port on the laptop. This is also the reason I'm keeping it. I look around at other similarly priced or slightly higher ones, and it is really difficult to tell if returning yet another one will make a difference - I guess I'll have to go see them in person to tell for sure. Now, if I wanted a Chromebook, I know I could get one at 1/3 the price that supports this, but I really need a functional SSH client and X-Windows display. All of that said, the laptop is functional enough. Fast to boot, quick to compile code, fast switching between programs, good display, above average battery life. If only they'd tossed in a $5 part to have a real port. UPDATE : After having it two months, not super thrilled with it. Because of the USB-C issue and not supporting a docking station, having just the two USB ports has caused problems. You basically have to have a USB-A hub. And it has to be powered. Not because it can't supply power, but because of other issues I've found. First, what I noticed was Bluetooth randomly died. After way too much googling, it appears that there is a touchy overprotection circuit on one of the internal USB hubs, which the bluetooth is connected to. It detects a power overage going through the ports (don't know how, because I rarely bother to plug anything in any more) and it is gone. No way to reset it without closing everything down, shutting down the laptop, letting it rest a bit (30 seconds or so will do it), and then starting up again. Then everything is perfect - at least until it happens again. Supposedly it can be addressed with a yet to be delivered firmware update. A lot of what I use the computer for is learning guitar, so my lessons/music are on screen, and there is bluetooth to the amp where my headphones are plugged in. So, nothing is plugged into the laptop, just a bluetooth connection and it randomly dies and reports that it can't find a bluetooth device in the laptop. And, just caving in and putting in a bluetooth dongle doesn't work, because it also kills the USB-A connections. So, that is a great addition to my lessons, having to save everything and shut down and reboot the computer. I've used USB-C and USB-A dongles to get Ethernet for doing large downloads and updates, and it is completely unstable. Keeps switching back and forth between Wireless and Wired connections. The dongles work fine in other computers, like my work computer for 10 hours straight without a hiccup. I don't bother any longer, because any time I save having higher downloads on Ethernet is negate by having to restart transfers that get interrupted when it suddenly stops recognizing the Ethernet cable. And, hopefully you save your work. Another firmware problem that hasn't been solved months later, if the battery is less than about 50%, and you close the lid, it will still suspend. But, then there is a chance the screen no longer works when opening it. The computer still is on, you can hear the fans, you can SSH into the computer from a different computer and still do work, so the computer itself is fine, you just can't see anything on the screen. It isn't fully turned off black, there is just a hint of light to make it obvious it is trying to do *something*, but it remains uniformly black. The solution is . . . forced reboot. Not adjusting down to one star, because when it does work, it is fast and smooth and pretty. There are just so many annoyances with this thing and the lack of firmware updates is frustrating. There have to be better laptops out there in this price range. ... show more

It was weir item bec the box tells 16gb and 512 ssd but the sticker on the laptop says 8gb 256ssd. But I checked the system and it’s correct. I received color silver and nit the color as advertised. So far it is okay. I just bought this laptop for some software that only runs in Windows OS. The graphics is not that excellent. This laptop is okay for basic errands on computer ... show more

  • Great laptop for the price
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Color: Blue
I needed a laptop to double as my home office machine and this fit the bill nicely. I have long bought from other places besides Amazon, but the reality of their dominance has made other retailer have to resort to selling whatever they can to eke it out. After several laptops that failed, I tried here. This machine has been running strong for about 6 months now of daily use, and I am hoping it stays that way. If there is a sudden failure, I will update this review, but at this point, it is 6 months and this little thing is still going gangbusters without a failure problem that wasn't solved with an update and a reboot or two. Very standard stuff, and a good sign of a good machine. I recommend this to someone looking for similar specs as I was: not necessarily the best there is, but something that offered a great value and "good enough" performance across a variety of tasks, a little bit of upgradeability (it can still double its memory) and innate compatibility with most office and work software out of the box. good performance, heat management, battery management, and performance that is able to do everything I need. I do light video work, don't play games (the video work is a stand-in for playing games with this discrete video processor), tons of document, spreadsheet and other software as well as SaS applications. it has the performance for all of that and some to spare. Upgrading the memory would put it right about where I would need to be if I started doing more graphics work, but for now, with this setup, I can do what I need to, and upgrade enough to last for a reasonable amount of time. I can recommend this for anyone looking for the same qualities I was. If you are looking for bleeding-edge performance, this ain't it. Also, I bought this in the beginning of 2022, so take Moore's law into account whenever you are reading this. Within 18 months this will NOT apply. ... show more

  • Solid Computer with Great Performance
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Color: Blue
I've owned 4 HP laptops among others. HP laptops are always solid computers with great performance and product support. The only reason this computer didn't get 5 stars was not the computer. This computer arrived with the UK English version of the OS installed. Luckily there are a few of us who know how to download and install the US English language pack and disable the UK English language pack. Hey guys this is the US market and the product should be preinstalled with US English Language version. Also this product should NEVER have shipped into the US market with a default language other than US English language version. Get it togehter and pay attention!!! ... show more
