  • Best feeder ever
Color: Blue Style: AI
This is our second Birdfy feeder, the original one we were gifted with 2 years ago. We do enjoy birding and seeing the various species that shows up daily. The video and picture quality is sharp, reliable, and we added a solar, keeping it charged with no effort.

  • Solid product, solid app, takes bird watching to a whole new level
Color: Yellow Style: AI
I got this for my wife for Mother's Day and we have really enjoyed using it. Unfortunately, the first week we got it the company was experiencing server issues so it was not working correctly but they got this resolved after a few days and now everything works fine. We definitely wanted the Bird AI identifier so we went for the more expensive unit with the lifetime subscription to the identifier service. At $5/month, this service will pay for itself within the first year. It gets the birds correct most of the time but not all of the time and when it does not, you can report it which is nice. It shows the service is always improving. I found out about the service issues via chat on their website, so I would say they have pretty good customer support as well. The unit itself is nothing fancy, just plastic housing but it does the trick. The parts are easy to assemble, the base locks in nice and tight but is easy to swivel and the cover is easy to open and protects the feeder from rain (a gentle down rain, not a hard blowing one). There are holes in the bottom so if/when rain does hit the bird seed, it will drain out. We have ours mounted to a shepard's hook and it has done a great job of staying in place. We tried out the solar panel but sent it back because the attachment that would have allowed us to wrap the cord up did not come with the unit or the solar panel. We also have ours installed under a big tree, so it would not get much sunshine. I will say though, a lot of folks on the Netvue Facebook forum say that the solar panel does a great job of keeping their feeder charged all the time. It comes with a huge, huge battery that takes forever to charge but lasts a long time depending on bird activity. Obviously the more the activity the more power it uses so individual results will vary. It took the birds about a week to find our new unit and since then it has been a feeding frenzy as in a full feeder is emptied by noon. One criticism I have about this feeder is that I think the food comes out to easily. It will allow larger birds to land and feast and I think there is a good amount of spillage from this. The squirrels just sit at the base and feed as well. I used the included squirrel baffle and I saw one squirrel defeat it once but have not seen squirrels do it again. My guess is that it is because there is ample food at the bottom. One of the other features I really like about this unit is that you can use it as a security camera. So it picks me up in the backyard and we have it by our shed so if anyone were to come and steal some tools or a bike from it they would get caught on the cam and the cam would send it to the cloud so we would have them. Plus we have night vision as well. We get free, 7 days of stored video, so in addition to the Bird AI identifier for life we get free cloud storage. You can pay more and get more but this is sufficient for us. It is nice to have this though because it is free. I signed up for the free bird identifier just didn't know that 7 days free cloud storage comes as well. It is expensive for what it is and we considered sending it back but am glad we decided to keep it now. After the novelty of it wears off within the first week or so we did get enjoyment out of seeing the different birds that visited our feeder. It also makes us happy to be able to provide our backyard birds with food. We have a sparrow that notices when we fill it up and will start squawking letting all the other birds know that the feeder is full again. The camera is a really nice unit as well, clear videos, easy to set up, great wifi range. All in all, we are really pleased with this unit. You pay a lot but you get a lot. Again, my only criticisms are the high initial cost and the fact that the food falls out kindof easily. Some folks on the facebook forums have posted pics of what they have done to improve food retention. Other than this little nit picky gripes, we have been very happy with this feeder, the app, and the experience. ... show more

  • Great product but needs a better rain shield to protect the seeds in the tray.
Color: Blue Style: AI Solar
We bought this feedercam as a combined Mothers'/Fathers' Day present to ourselves. We love it and the photo/video quality exceeds our expectations when we bought it. It's attractive to look at, mounts easily to a variety of surfaces, has a large seed hopper so you don't have to take it down. We had to get the additional hockey mask-looking screen for the front because of squirrels and doves suctioning down the food like at our other feeders. The doves still stuck their heads in until I took off the plastic perch. I mounted it about 8 feet up on a strong pole with a squirrel baffle, and the squirrels have not yet gotten to it because our older feeders remain accessible to them. It's entertaining to see doves try to get to the seed, which they can do if they hang sideways or upside down to get to it. No more crowds of jostling doves sucking down expensive seed. We were concerned about blocking larger birds we like, such as blue jays, but at least some have figured out how to hang on the mesh and stick their heads in. Other notes: Pretty easy to maintain so far. The roof easily folds forward to all refilling of the hopper. The entire unit hangs on the mount, so all you have to do is lift it off the mount to take it down. One thing to keep in mind is that the camera has a very wide angle of view and is always on. It will record any movement in the background, so you need to think about where you can put it that is not able to see the neighbors or you might get reported, or at least get negative comments from them. If you do a lot of sunbathing or other activities with minimal clothing, you might get videos of that as well. Re: the AI, it has been pretty reasonable in IDing our routine birds, which is pretty much all we have during the summer. Looking forward to the fall migration to see what it picks up. Our only issue I've noticed with the ID is actually not unexpected. We live in a crossover area for tufted and black-crested titmice, which often breed with each other to produce intermediate-looking hybrid offspring. It generically calls many of the hybrids and some black-crested titmice as tufted. I discovered it's quite easy to modify the ID on the app, however, which probably helps the AI program to improve its quality. I have one strong recommendation for improvement. The roof has almost no overhang past the edge of the feeder tray. We've gotten large amounts of rain here in central Texas this year, and even mild drizzles will soak the seed try and I have to scrape the rotting seeds out frequently. There is no available ready-made dome or shield that I can find to mount over it to reduce rain spoilage. I would like to see Birdfy produce a 3/4 round clear dome that could be slipped onto the mounting base or to the back of the feeder, to reduce the risk of soaking the seeds. ... show more

  • Excellent camera and AI identification
Color: Blue Style: AI Solar
We bought this for my elderly mother who loves to feed and watch birds. The feeder itself is just plastic (thus only 4 stars—seems a little cheap) but the camera is great. The feeder is easy to snap together. There is a QR code that takes you to the app and the setup was pretty straightforward but there’s no way my elderly mom could have figured it out. And you do need to supply the micro SD card. The company does home security so this is basically a home security camera put in a plastic bird feeder. Quite ingenious really. The feeder has to be placed close to the house to stay connected to the Wi-fi. For those of you in colder climates, the feeder needs to come in when the temp is below 14 deg F (which is every night for us so not a great winter feeder). The bird identification seems to work well. My mom was so excited after we got it set up and her phone announced “there is a finch” and there was. It runs on batteries but came with a nice little solar charger with a pretty long cord. Other than wishing the feeder were a bit more elegant and less cheap plastic, this is a great product for bird lovers. And we all need to be feeding birds as their habitat disappears. ... show more
