  • Works perfectly--if you know what to do.
Style: Up to 2.5Gbps with 2 Phone Lines
This device was set up and working perfectly in 15 minutes--but it is very important to know how to best do it, which I discovered from various online forums. It is designed to work with Xfinity, and is more expensive because it has phone ports, which were important to us. If they are not important to you, buy a cheaper model. Now for the set-up. The most important point in setting it up is to NOT deal with any verbal phone tech support, and it will become clear why. Xfinity's own website describes how to use the mobile phone app for setup--use it. Once you have downloaded the phone app and signed in to it, it allows Xfinity to identify you and know where your service is immediately. In the app, go to Account, Add new device, Your own--and follow the directions. The only input required of you is for the CM MAC number which is on the bottom of the unit. They do not need or want the MTA MAC number--forget about it. It took 8 minutes for their system to identify the device, and about another 6-7 minutes to set it up. That was all, and everything, phone line included, worked perfectly with my correct phone number. Given my previous interactions with Xfinity, I was amazed at how seamlessly this worked. They have gotten their act together--almost. Here's the hooker. I went on the the Xfinity website, and it had immediately identified that I now had my own modem. But I also wanted to call Xfinity to confirm that the old modem/router would be taken off my bill once I returned it--big mistake. Their automated phone tree started off by saying that it had detected a problem with my modem and wanted permission to reset it!!! I shouted no, no ,no and hung up. What I suspect is going on is that the Xfinity answering system and probably any employee you would talk to is operating off a legacy system which does not update immediately, like your account website and whatever infrastructure uses the mobile phone app to set up new equipment. The bottom line is to use the new mobile phone app for any setup and NOT, under any circumstances call for any tech support, verbal or automated, because they are not immediately in touch with the new setup infrastructure. I hope his helps any subsequent customers. With the new setup system, the device worked immediately and flawlessly. ... show more

  • I Was Able To Pick Up An Alien Signal
Style: Up to 2 Gigabits
The moment the connection was made I knew the signal was from another mysterious place. I was picking speeds that were exceeding my PC's bandwidth capacity and I was watching interdimensional cable on my google chrome browser at such a high resolution that the aliens on the screen looked like they were about to pounce at me. As soon as I opened my email I knew I was receiving emails from Mars because Mars is the only other planet that's habitable in this solar system, and we know it's got water. The build quality is straight out of science fiction. The space-age plastic really pops the fancy-looking LED lights, who knows what those are for? With the speeds this thing puts out it got to have a Quinton CPU processor with all the terabytes of data that goes through my system, doing god knows what. It still doesn't talk though, so whats up with that? ... show more

  • I purchased the CM2000 for one reason only!
Style: Up to 2.5 Gigabits
The ISP (which will remain nameless), that I rented my Internet gateway from did not adhere to sound security protocol. I myself, as a cybersecurity professional with more than 10 years experience, am naturally paranoid about weak passwords. This particular ISP limits the variety of keyboard characters allowed for cable modem management passwords, making them easier to crack! In fact, on a few occasions, my passwords were changed without my consent. From that point forward I decided to buy my own cable modem that would allow me to choose the access passwords without character limitations. Now that it is up and running I am beyond happy. My desired security posture is now a reality, and my internet finally achieves 1gb downloads, better than the ISP's cable modem that was supposed to do the same thing. My network is tight security wise, and this Netgear Nighthawk CM2000 helped me realize that. Finally, I had to overcome one technical issue that I thought was generated by the CM2000. After registering my cable modem with Netgear, called tech support. Best dang support I've dealt with in a long time! From one geek to another, we were able to speak the same tech-ease and I learned more about my new CM2000 and the DOCSIS standard than I knew before the call. Found out that the CM2000 was not the culprit, so I called the ISP to handle it, problem resolved. The one setback for Netgear that I thought was serious enough to mention is that as far as firmware upgrades there seems to be tit-for-tat between Netgear and this particular ISP. Either group seems to point the finger at the other when it comes to whose responsibility it is to push out firmware upgrades. I hope, for customers' sake, that these two outfits work out their differences on this. Heavens forbid that there is a security vulnerability that requires a firmware upgrade! I shiver to think about that outcome. Other than that, I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Just get it, xfinity modems are capped.
Style: Up to 2.5Gbps with 2 Phone Lines
I've dealt with comcast/xfinity customer service for years. None of them are going to tell you their rented modems are garbage tier e-waste. Save $25 a month, get this modem, I got the CM2050V. I went from 450 mbps, to 950 mbps on my router that supports 2.5 ghz wan, which they kept saying was the issue. That's about it. Can't wait for the fios competition to lay their lines in my area. Soon enough I'll be able to dump trashy xfinity for good. ... show more

  • Is netgear man that's all you need to know
Style: Up to 2.5 Gigabits
Netgear is the top dog. Unless you pay for 100-200 mbps or less then stick with a lesser brand. But if you use 750mbps to 2gig with demanding wifi items then get this for sure. I got 40 devices hooked up and pay for 1 gig service and I get about 980-1gig stable 24/7 no drops. Granted I use Orbi tri-mesh system paired with this and no problems so far ... show more

  • Not a simple plug and go setup
Style: Up to 2.5 Gigabits
Once the device is setup, it works very well. for my cable provider, I could not just replace the old with the new. I had to get technical support help desk to configure new modem on their side. My provider is MediaCom. If I were to purchase again, I would not buy from Amazon as shipping took 12 days to get to my door. Go to Best Buy instead - same cost. ... show more
