Bought this for work, to get into tight places without collateral damage of melting things with a butane torch. This heats up quickly and works great for what I use it for — I only wish there was a temperature control. It gets a TAD hotter than I need it to. I have to manually feather the temperature by turning it on and off which is inconvenient. Otherwise it’s a decent piece of kit so far and serves its purpose well. One without the other is just wasting money and time. Look for a seller who knows what he is selling and how it is used. You will need replacements, if the tool is worthy of buying. If I had followed my own advice, I would not need to warn you of this error in judgment. (The wallet says: Ouch!)

Ok, I’ve only done a few solder joints so limited experience but I am blown away. I actually didn’t think this would work but after over 60 years soldering wires as an engineer and avid DIYer, I really wanted something truly portable. I was tired of struggling with extension cords on ladders for various projects and sadly disappointed with butane solutions. So, for the price, decided to give this a whorl. As has been noted in other reviews, this isn’t for heavy duty work that requires serious wattage to heat up joints. No pencil soldering iron does that well. But for general small jobs this is amazing. Heats up very quickly to a temperature that readily makes a good joint. I haven’t measured the actual temperature but it seems to compare very well with my bench top solder station. I’ll have to see how long it actually performs but, short term, I’m sold. ... show more
