  • Will handle a full size DSLR with no issues
This is an impressive little powered dolly made for using on flat, even surfaces. It's not made for using on bumpy terrain or any kind of "off road" use. Once you understand that, you won't be disappointed when using it as intended. I did try it on some pitted concrete and it did work, but got stuck a couple of times on a small pebble or divot. After unpacking the bits from the very nice included case, I decided to try my biggest camera first to see how it did. First off, the included ball head is not up to the task of supporting a full size DSLR, especially with any bigger lenses. I did try it, but the ball head kept slipping no matter how tight I cranked down on the knob. So I swapped out the included ball head with a much beefier one I own, which while still small, can hold much bigger loads with no issues. In case you're interested, I used this 30mm ball head from Leofoto: https://amzn.to/3LFIz5x For my "big camera" test, I also used a 105mm macro lens and tried arcing the dolly around a small object. The shot was pretty close but the footage was smooth. I was a little surprised at how well a moving macro shot did, frankly. I was impressed! I put the included ball head back on and tested the dolly out with several smaller cameras and was pleased with the results from each camera. Some cameras can be attached without the use of a ball head, like the Feiyu Pocket 3 with its gimbal head https://amzn.to/3ZC5VyT and the Insta360 X3 https://amzn.to/468QD76 which is 360 so it doesn't really matter which direction it's pointing when attached via the 1/4"-20 threads. The GoPro 11 Mini https://amzn.to/3EWp1Gk also worked well but isn't quite as versatile in this setup as the Pocket 3 or the Insta360, but probably does offers the best video quality. This is especially true if you are shooting on an imperfect sidewalk where the dolly may encounter some bumps. I thought the Pocket 3 made the best pairing overall for use with this dolly, with its excellent gimbal for smoothing out the bumps, as well as being able to control and move the camera angle remotely during a dolly move. The app allows for a "hands off" approach with great features. I like not having to touch the unit to get it started or stopped, which will result in a little bump right at the start. I also purchased the remote cable for my Nikon cameras, which will allow for some interesting timelapses. Overall, I'm super pleased with this dolly and am impressed with how well and how easily it works. The included case is very much appreciated to keep all the bits together and well protected. ... show more

  • Not impressed
1 wheel drive. Motor is not very strong. If you have a cable attached to the camera while its moving, drag will cause jerking motion. Camera has to be absolutely free of any attached wires and surface has to be absolutely flat. Flat surface is not a problem but very little torque on the motor is a very big problem. Price does not reflect the product quality, is reflecting the effort put into the APP instead of the hardware it self. So if developing the app cost %60% of the hardware, hardware is junk. It will have to do for now but seriously, it should not cost so much with only one wheel drive and low motor power. ... show more

  • Almost Worthless Changed To Totally Worthless. See My Video And Update
The media could not be loaded. After posting the initial review I wanted to update it. See the update at the end for why this device is totally useless. I bought this almost 6 months ago to use on my YouTube channel, The Edge of Innovation Workshop. I originally thought I would do a review of the product, and I still might. (Update: I will) Today I unboxed the device and decided to use it for some "beauty shots" of The Cheapest Laser Engraver On The Internet, which - by the way, is fantastic! After getting this device setup I found that it didn't seem to be operating. My bad. It just wouldn't move. I was trying to get it to roll on my 1/8 in high pile astroturf "green screen" carpet. It wouldn't go more than a few inches before halting. I examined this little camera dolly and found that ONLY the left front wheel is driven. It uses a couple of O-rings for the tires. As a result, this thing will ONLY roll on a very hard surface. It will never work on any type of carpet. Anything slick is going to be a no-go for this thing. That's really too bad. Why? Because it seems to be fairly well built. It is solid. It comes with a nice case. But as is the case with so much of the Chinese made stuff it only gets the engineering right on about 75% of the design. If these people had put just a little more effort into designing this thing it could have been a great product. It has the potential to be a great product. But I feel certain the company will echo the typical Chinese refrain, "Oh. We fix that on the next version." For now they will peddle stuff that is only 75% useful. Sad.... Perhaps my next YouTube video will cover how I 3D printed a set of proper wheels, or figured out how to drive 2 of the 4 wheels to make this a usable device. For now, as one of my favorite TV guys (John Matarese) says, "Don't waste your money!" Update: So…I thought the issue was the poor wheel design causing the wheels to not gain traction on my astroturf carpet. My solution was going to be to 3D print better wheels. As it turns out, that is not the issue at all. I disassembled the unit in preparation for designing new wheels. I discovered the drive motor was a small NEMA-style 4 wire stepper motor. Given the size, it should have been quite capable of providing lots of power. The problem, in my opinion, is the stepper motor driver they used on the circuit board is sending wrong pulse signals to the motor. The motor has almost no torque. My guess? The engineers designed the product using a specific type of motor and motor driver and somewhere along the say a different motor or driver got substituted that caused the unit to barely work at all. It has enough torque to operate on a glass smooth surface but not on anything else. Any heavy load will cause the unit to stall. This is the 2nd Neewer product I have received that turned out to be totally worthless. As mentioned in the initial review, it is a real shame. This little device is very well made. The quality of the casting, machining, etc is quite good. But it does not work! It is, totally 100% useless. Unfortunately I did not unbox this prior to the 30 day Amazon return window. Now I’m stuck with it. A $179 lesson learned the hard way. I plan on posting a YouTube review of this product soon. I feel it is necessary to point out the good products in today’s world as well as the bad ones. ... show more
