Item: NEEWER 8" Desk Ring Light with Stand, Mdl. RH8B Price: $22.94 after vendor’s 15% discount MOST IMPORTANT… When I opened and started testing the light I thought it was malfunctioning. That’s because I didn’t read the Neewer ‘online user’s manual’. In the included printed instruction manual, you’ll find they’re directing you to their ‘User’s Manual’ via a QR code. I went to the site, and then the RH8B item, and then the download. You can do that or read my posted photo of ‘page 2’ titled remote control. Upon opening I didn’t treat the remote ‘circular button’ as a multi-function button. You’ll find that you can easily go from variable CCT (Kelvin light temperatures) to FX (special effects mode). I’m guessing anyone who returned the unit thinking it didn’t work missed this. ABOUT THIS RING LIGHT… I have a rather large inventory of ring lights, from small, (8” rings like this), to 18” and larger. And I’ve found the Neewer ring lights I’ve reviewed over the past few years, in most cases, are very reliable, well built and come with Neewer’s higher level of customer service. This is not a battery powered light. You’ll get a power-supply and USB-C to USB-C cabling. I also used a ‘power-bank’ to power the light system and it worked just fine. So is it portable? Yes, if you consider using a power bank. And at its current price point from this vendor, the value is quite simply high. THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THE RH8B… The hardware, meaning the base, post, cellphone and ball mount adapters all have a heavy metal feel. The cell and ball mount adapter do use plastic, but it’s a high-density material. And the light system itself includes a number of FX ‘special effects’ (none that I use, but…). But I do use small ring lights for their variable CCT mode. And this little light does provide, while not extremely accurately, a Kelvin range of the low 2,000s to the high 7,000s. Basically you have incandescent to white (blue) light (daylight). Overall… As mentioned, the vendor’s current price point when I reviewed this light kit was extremely fair. And knowing the manufacturer’s customer support, the one-year warranty is, again in my opinion, just as stated, one year of product and user support.

So I've tested a bunch of ring lights over the years, but this 8" desk ring light really stands out, especially for its size and ease of use. I grabbed it mainly for my business Zoom calls, but I have also been using it for when I take product photos. It's way brighter than I expected (like, almost too bright if you crank it up all the way), but the adjustability makes it super versatile. The ring light has 144 LEDs that throw out a ton of even, soft light, great for reducing shadows and making skin look smoother on camera. I've even noticed my webcam quality looks better just because the lighting is that much more flattering. The brightness and color temperature range give you a ton of control depending on the vibe you are going for. Pros: + Has built in phone holder (very convenient feature) + Super bright 18W output + Color temperature + brightness are fully adjustable + Includes 12 fun scene effects like lightning and paparazzi + Flexible height and 360 degree adjustable ball head + Works well as a key light, fill light, or desk lamp + Bluetooth shutter remote is a handy bonus + Packs into its own little carrying case Cons: - Not battery powered, so you'll need an outlet nearby - The control unit is wired, which might not be for everyone Who it's for: If you're a content creator, makeup artist, remote worker, or just want to look less like a cave troll on video calls, this thing really great. My final thoughts: For the price, it's great. The included accessories (remote, phone holder, USB-C power, carrying bag) make it feel like a complete kit, not just a light. If you're on the fence, this is one of those purchases you will end up using more than you thought.
