  • Great for Precision Work
Style: GM-MP2
I got this focusing rail to help me with macro photography. I would recommend also having a remote trigger when using. One of the best parts of this rail is I can dial in exactly where I want to focus and then move it precisely to the next focus point, and so on. This really helps me in post production when I do focus stacking. The focusing rail is built super solid and the slider works smoothly. I like that I can use the rail on tabletop, on a ball head or mount it directly. All the knobs and locks work smoothly and securely. I like the fold out feet, but I do wish there was a way to have various heights with them or maybe have them slightly longer. Everything on the rail system is standard ¼” and 3/8” screw mounts, and the plate is a standard size. I had no issue with the system holding a DSLR camera with a macro lens. The size of the slider is nice and small and packs easily in a camera bag. Great product and a “must have” for macro photography enthusiasts! ... show more

  • Nice entry level focusing rail
Style: GM-MP2
Typical Neewer quality- meaning, not insanely premium but not fall-apart cheap. This rail is heavy duty enough with some fine controls. It would be a good starter for a Macro set that doesn't break the bank, but you will outgrow it quickly if you are doing high mag stuff.

  • High Quality Precision Macro Focusing Rail
Style: GM-MP2
The NEEWER macro focusing rail feels really high quality constructed of mostly aluminum. The attachment head is an arca swiss quick release with a base that can lock into two positions (shooting forward, or shooting to the side like a slider). The movement of this slider is adjusted using the big dial on the back allowing for really fine small adjustments to get the focus just right. The bottom of the slider features arca swiss grooves so it can directly mount onto any arca swiss compatable tripod. Additionally there are 4 small fold out feets that allows you to set the slider onto a flat surface without the use of a tripod. There is also a 3/8 hole with a 3/8 to 1/4 20 adapter located in the center on the bottom of the slider for mounting onto tripods that do not support the arca swiss system. This is a great little macro slider that is both sturdy yet portable. I wish that there was some way to control the tension of the knob as sometimes you need it to move a further distance but because the adjustment is so fine it requires a lot of turning on the back knob. Additionally if you are able to release the tension on the slider somehow than this can double as a short video slider which can be nice as well. For what it is it's built solidly the slider is able to hold the camera up without creeping forward and the addition of arca swiss mounting/fold out feet make it super versatile to use. ... show more

  • Well made- but doesn't fit their tripod head
Style: GM-MP2
Overall, this is a nice focusing rail. It is well machined and manufactured. At 1.1 pounds it is a bit heavy, but sometimes heavy is good. It is in this case. The QR plate on the rail is secure and easy to manipulate. What I find interesting, though- and partly my fault on not investigating further- is this does not fit a number of Neewer's tripod heads without additional components. It does have an Arca-swiss base to connect to a tripod head- but many of Neewer's tripod heads like the G32 (which I own) is a QR itself, not Arca-Swiss. Silly me for assuming that this would fit a Neewer head out of the box. A better product description, IMO would help here. But, using the screw attachment, I've attached the rail to a Sirui head with a QR plate onto the G32. The movement on the focusing rail is smooth- and requires minimal effort. Almost too little- leading me to believe that over time, this- may - fail with heavy usage- but time will tell. This is one of the first Neewer products I have received that I did not give 5 stars to- just because of the overall description. As a fan of their products, I expected more clarity in compatibility with their other gear. ... show more

  • Precise Adjustment for Macro Photography
Style: GM-MP2
This device is good for when shooting objects at close distance and you need micro adjustments for focusing. It provides a very precise method for repetitive shots (distance) and is built like tank. The question is (and the reason for 4 stars vs. 5) is do you need this level of precision. If you are doing time lapse and need to repeat shots this may be the tool you were looking for as you can record settings for future shoots. It can also come in handy for product photography where you need to match shots. The Neewer brand produces some excellent accessories and this slider is no exception. ... show more

  • Good for the price
Style: GM-MP2
This focusing rail is generally well constructed and has a very smooth adjustment. As far I I could tell, it has very minimal backlash when reversing direction as well. The quick release seems to fit my Arca style plates just fine, and the base fits my Arca clamps. I did notice a little bit of rotational slop in the 90 degree feature of the quick release adapter, even when locked. There is also a bit of lateral movement of the entire screw thread at the knob, and I did not see a way to tighten up the lashing. To compensate for this, you just need to be sure to keep the knob pressed against the body when making adjustments. Overall though, for the price, this is a pretty decent focusing rail. ... show more

  • Good focusing rail
Style: GM-MP2
This is not my first Neewer product, and I've been happy with most of their products and this is no exception. This rail provides great focus control and mounts great on my camera and tripods. The design of this is very nice and feels like a high quality product. I had no issues using this focusing rail and it definitely fits in some of the photography I like to do. The rail functions how it should. For the money, this is a great option and is a pretty good value for someone looking for a focusing rail. ... show more

  • Well built, smooth movement
Style: GM-MP2
I'm impressed with the build quality of this macro rail. The design is quite nice. The movement on the rail is very smooth, although it might be nice to have a larger knob to turn. I really like the way the base plate can change direction. I'm looking forward to using this for a quite a while.
