  • Great starter panel; easily portable and usable - updated review
I have other portable solar panels (in the 20-25W range) that are great for charging lamps, flashlights, and smaller (i.e., 2000 -10,000 mAh) battery packs. This one, though, is the first "serious" wattage panel I've purchased, and I have to say it's pretty great. It can run DC devices direct or it can charge a power cell. From what I can tell it's not one you can put in serial or parallel, so it will work for me as a standalone array. I got it to go with the same mfr's 150W LiFePO4 all-in-one battery/BMS/inverter so I now have reliable power either on the go or in a hunker down scenario. No, it's not going to run my microwave oven, but it *will* keep my phone charged, provide light in the dark, and will power my emergency NOAA/SW radio. It does have the ability to direct connect to some DC devices (i.e., no battery needed), but I don't know that I need that capability atm. The panel combined with the battery/inverter supports my needs just fine. Other neat features: it comes with a sturdy nylon carrying case (with a zippered accessory pocket), it has 2 kickstands to keep it at the right angle to the sun, it folds up nicely into an easy to carry, lightweight format. It comes with all the cables, and connectors, and adapters you'll need. **Update: The red banded or "H" adapter (1.35mm) which is needed to power the N150 battery I got to go with this panel failed after a few charges. This is not a reflection on the panel itself, and is something that is pretty easily resolved (as in, buy repair/replacement parts). The key takeaway here is to test your new or backup systems ahead of the time when you may need to rely on them. As this unit came, there is no way w/o using the AC power supply to charge my particular battery. The panel will direct charge a cell phone, so there's that. :) ... show more

  • Inexpensive, lightweight, portable, fast charging
I finally broke down and got a solar panel for the hunting cabin. We have a small generator but sometimes it's a little finicky and I worry about when the hubs goes up there and if his cell phone were to die, especially in this weather. We didn't want something overly large, bulky, heavy, or expensive and this unit fit all the points we needed. One of the biggest draws was that it was lightweight and came with a very nice and sturdy carryall case for easy in and out usage. It's a slim solar panel unit too and rather perfect to position on the porch to catch the sun. We've used it off and on over a month and it's been more than enough to charge the phones, laptop, and our all in one portable charging block. It's waterproof enough to get plenty of splashback from being on the porch and still works well. I will say I put opsite over the ports when the weather is heavier than expected and it seems to working beautifully since its not truly a waterproof unit (not really something we were looking for price wise). The angle of it was perfect to grab light on the porch. And plenty of ports to make sure it grabs sun fast and charges fast. Overall it was exactly what we needed and really gave peace of mind for me when he's in the woods. ... show more

  • Good panel, but leaves me wanting a bit more
Size: 120W
My problem with all the 120 watt panels that I have reviewed is I never feel I get the extra performance I expect. I have 100 watt panels that are able to match them so i feel that extra 20 watt rating just doesn't pay off for the extra cash spent. This comes in a really nice looking case with a handle on the case. No handles on the panels themselves. That makes moving the panels a little less ideal. You get a nice MC4 to nearly any common plug adapter. I stuck mostly to use the MC4 plugs and not the provided adapter. The kickstands are only the far left and far right panels so the middle sags a little. However, this is a pretty rigid panel so it doesn't sag much. The kickstand has a button snap to attach the bottom to the panel instead of the more common velcro. I wasn't a big fan of that. The kickstand also sags/flexes a fair bit and worried me it might break. To get a better angle to the sun I didn't use it much and opted to lean them agains some brick to get close to a 30 degree angle. You couldn't get that low of an angle with the built in stand, but that is fairly common on these. Now...what really matters,...Performance. When the panel is cool, I was able to get around 90 watts from it. I never really saw it peak higher than that. When it got hot in the sun, some days I got around 80-85 watts. That isn't too bad, but is around 70% of the rated output. I consider the best ones around 80% from my other panel tests. I even took one of my better 100 watt panels out and was able to match the output from this within a watt or two. The weight of this isn't too bad at around 11lbs for JUST the panels, but it is a bit more than the fabric style ones. Just a pound or two more, again not much, but I did notice it when moving them around. Overall, these do perform petty good, but just was hoping for in the 90 watt range consistently to get the 80% of the rated output. The price is where I have harder time on this as it is at a bit of a premium, but not much of a performance bump for the money spent. On a sale, this would be an easier recommendation, but at the $250, it is a bit harder when a different panel at $160 was only a watt or two different. Here is the panel I am referring to as a great bargin https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0B5XLGP7F ... show more
