  • For the price, this can't be beat.
Color: Forest Green - 20D Nylon
In preparation for a 5 day North Cascades backcountry trip, I needed a new lightweight tent for 2 people. My requirements were <5 lbs (including stakes and footprint), small packed dimensions, excellent ventilation and good waterproofness. I didn't want to break the bank on name brand stuff, so I rounded up the best Amazon options, and this one won out. Upon arrival, this tent satisfied my first two requirements, coming in right at ~5 lbs (if you throw away some of the stuff sacks), and much smaller than other similar tents I've had in the past. The other two requirements would have to wait for the trip to verify... After 5 days in the humid Washington wilderness, this tent proved to be both very breathable and waterproof. We experienced two nights of pretty heavy rain and the tent managed to keep everything underneath it dry, even after being put away wet the night before. Additionally, the tent also didn't show any signs of condensation underneath the rainfly during some of the colder nights (~40 F). For one night, we ended up having 3 people in this tent, and while it was a bit cramped, we all fit fine, and this tent seems to have a good deal more room than most "3-person" tents I've used in the past. All in all, this tent held up great. That said, there are a few issues that were encountered. First, the included footprint seems a little too big for the tent itself, meaning that the corners of the rainfly had to be carefully adjusted to ensure rain didn't fall onto parts of the footprint that extended out from under the tent. In mild rain, this probably wouldn't be an issue, but if wind is involved, rain might be able to make its way under the tent. Second, the poles (being all connected together by elastic cord) were a bit of a challenge to set up with one person, and the tips that fit into the tent grommets sometimes disconnected from the poles while breaking down the tent. Lastly, the floor of the tent seemed rather thin, and I imagine that heavy use would likely cause tearing in short order if care is not used. That said, all of these are minor concerns. The footprint oversize can easily be fixed with some duct tape in a pinch, as can the pole tips, and the thin floor is likely just a compromise of making a tent of such a light weight. All in all, I was very impressed with the tent's quality, weight, price and weatherproofness and firmly believe this is the best hiking tent you can buy in this price range. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and would recommend this brand to anybody else looking for a tent on the cheap! ... show more

  • Surprisingly durable and possibly saved us from injury.
Color: Orange - 210T Polyester
I have used this tent on 3 trips so far. The first trip was in the mountains with temps in the 30s. The second was in the woods with temps in the high 40s/50s. The third trip was in the Great Sand Dunes while backpacking. I will speak to all three experiences. 1. The tent stayed moderately warm. I will say that I used a cheap 20 degree bag on the mountain trip, so I did feel very cold, however the tent kept us warm enough to sleep. It was a great conductor of heat when the sun finally came up in the morning! I was happy to have this tent- just unhappy with my bag. Easy set-up, easy tear-down. Overall good experience. 2. In the trip in the woods, the tent stayed plenty warm all night! It was a perfect camping trip. 3. During my backpacking trip in the Great Sand Dunes, we got caught in a thunderstorm followed by a massive windstorm/sandstorm. Since we didn’t have sand stakes, we used plastic bags filled with sand as anchors to hold the rain fly down. It worked quite well. The storms hit us very quickly, so our group of four adults only had time to set up one of our two tents. Once we got it up and settled in out of the rain, the winds became so strong and terrifying, that it was threatening to break all of the tent poles and rip off the fly. It felt like we were in tornado strength winds. Obviously we were not, however the tent served as our only protection from our vulnerability to the storm. The poles bent and the sides began to cave. The only reason the tent itself would not have blown away was due to the weight of four people and four bags instead. We spent over an hour holding the sweet spots of the tent up in order to prevent it from breaking. (We would have been stuck in a horrible sandstorm without rescue for hours had our tent gone down.) The tents of just about everyone else backpacking that night did break. We were extremely fortunate to have a sturdy tent with secure connection points during this storm. Although two of the top poles bent during the storm, I cannot believe it stayed up the whole night and that there was no other damage. I am extremely impressed with the quality and durability of this tent. Yes, all four of us did sleep in this tent that night. It was not as comfortable as sleeping 2 or 3 people, but it gave us sweet peace from the storm outside. (No water in the tent, either! Just a lot of sand...) I would buy it again, over and over! ... show more
