Literally saved us from a disaster

This might be the most important purchase I've made. My partner hooked up a new gas dryer to save money on installation and while easy, the threading into the dryer was not perfectly aligned. He promptly dried a couple loads of laundry and when I went down to check out the progress, upon opening the dryer door, I got a whiff of natural gas that he was not smelling. Probably because he smokes. I order this little gem and went down to test inside the dryer. I turned the unit on BEFORE going down there because you should never turn on an electronic device, light switch or anything if you think there's a gas leak. Got down there, opened the door ... and voila ... it went off chirping and the display went bright red. Finally I had evidence to make him believe me. He reseated the connections and used some pipe dope, and now we're safe. This was clearly a great value for us and it gave me some peace of mind knowing that my sniffer wasn't off. It was gas. I tested it on other things, too, like an unlit but gas-on stove burner as shown in the video. It is very sensitive at detecting leaks in a variety of volatile gases. Very portable and easy to use. Every home with gas appliances, heaters, or grills should have one of these available to test connections every time they're remade. Don't trust your nose ... or anyone else's. Get this device pronto!

Very sensitive and accurate, tested with multiple gases!

I've been using this detector for a while and it works great. The extendable probe makes reaching tight spots very easy. I have personally tested it with natural gas, gasoline, mineral spirits/solvents, and alcohol, and it detected all of them immediately with clear alerts. Highly reliable tool to have at home or in the workshop!

first order did not turn on. returned for a new one. Second order works as advertised. I e-mailed the company about the first order and its issues. They didn't believe me and want me to send a video of me pressing the on button. Screw that I returned the product through Amazon. Again no issues with second order, but boy did the company anger me.

Found the exact source of a tiny gas leak.

Worked perfectly. I was smelling a bit of gas in a wall oven and bought a room sensor to make sure I wasn't imagining it. The room sensor didn't go off in the room, but when I put it in the oven it did go off. My initial thought was something in the oven was leaking. I tried the soapy solution to look for bubbles, but it was pretty clear that whatever leak existed was small. I saw no bubbles. I tried to apply the solution to the valves and lines feeding the oven, but again no bubbles. So I bought this, and after calibrating, ran it over each pipe and connection feeding the oven. Turned out the shutoff valve itself was leaking. This thing was so sensitive that I was able to identify the exact part where the leak was originating from. I saved $1000 on a new oven or a gas repair professional. $30 in parts from Home Depot (new shutoff valve, Teflon tape, and pipe dope), and the problem is fixed. Worth every penny. And I guess technically 100,000x more. My only complaint (super minor) is the manual has a very weird picture of how to insert the batteries. In reality, both batteries go into the device positive ends first, negative ends stick towards the cap. The manual has a VERY strange picture of one battery going negative end first, followed by positive end first. That's just... crazy.

Safety First. I originally purchased this to detect propane tank leaks on my travel trailer. I am familiar with bubble testing for leaks...very inexpensive and accurate. Unfortunately you have to be able to access the location of the leak before you can prove that you have a leak. Normal leak locations are at fittings which we all know. So its hunt-test and repeat until you either find it or give up. Bubbles work great for finding the exact location of leaks. However, when the wife suspects there is a leak via a smell that you don't detect, you had better at least appear like you are looking (and usually its good advice...she is one mammal removed from a blood hound in sense of smell). This device is awesome and so far very accurate. Its both a life safety and husband safety device. Purchase one and increase her pride in your ability to save her from a fiery doom, or at least get her to relax and enjoy the trip.

This is the third TopTes gas leak detector that I have purchased. They are EXCELLENT! they are much more sensitive than my nose, or the noses of people that work for me. I had a very small gas leak for some time that I could never find. I used the TopTes sensor, and found the problem in minutes. I then bought 2 more as gifts. These things are a MUST for plumbers, maintenance people, DIYers and apartment managers.
