  • Useful product
I felt that it would be much safer in a household using propane for heat, hot water, and cooking to have a propane detector to alert us about a leak or a stove burner inadvertently left on but not lit. This product was the best one I could find for our situation. It has a cord so it can be plugged in to an outlet for power, rather than relying on a battery; thus the detector can be located where it is most likely to respond, even if the wall outlet is not right in that spot (ours wasn't.) The alert when gas is detected is loud and unmistakable. It appears to be well made and practical and comes with an ebook of good information and instructions for best use and safety. The price was right, shipping was fast, and the end product was a safer situation for us. Some might prefer battery operation, but our appliances won't be in use if there is a power outage of any reasonable length, and I worry that a battery might go dead without warning, leaving us unprotected. So far, I have nothing but good to report about this product. ... show more

  • A well-designed device.
This is good for homes with natural gas power. CO detectors are not the same thing. The instructions are brief and simple. Best features include an alarm that is loud enough to wake you up but because it is not a shrill beep, it doesn't cause you to panic. Also, the thing sounds off at levels which the gas reaches before the threat of an explosion is high. Really worth the money. ... show more

  • Easy toi Set Up and Seems To Be Working OK
This product is very easy to install and operate. Once it performs its 3 minute warmup, it starts working. Ran a test by pressing the test button and found it to be loud enough to be heard all over the house. Have a propane fireplace in the livingroom. Haven't had a gas leak yet (thank goodness) and didn't want to create one just to test the unit's sensitivity. So I trust it will work in the event of an actual leak. Hopefully I'll never have to hear the alarm. ... show more

  • Very good product at a great price.
Plugged in , waited a minute or so for it to warm up & go Into working mode then Placed just above stove burner, turned the stove burner knob on ( not ignited, just propane raw gas) & within 2 seconds the detector number started quickly going up with alarm. This detector Tested absolutely perfect. I then gutted out the original broken propane detector because it's existing hole was larger then the new detector and I wanted to install the new one in the same spot. So removed the old detector, gutted the insides so just the housing remained. Installed the new detector wall mount plate onto the face of old detector shell using the 2 screws provided. Cut the 120v AC Plug End off the new detector cord, ( if you do this make sure you only cut the plug end of the cord ( the end with 2 metal prongs). Inserted cut end of cord into and out of the old empty plastic housing, now with the detector power cable inside the cabnit, I chose to wire it directly into a existing junction box. (The detector Blue & Brown wires are connected to the 120v WHITE (Neutral) & BLACK (Hot) wires. It does not matter which color wire from the detector is connected to the white or black wire. JUST INSURE only 1 colored wire is connected to the 120v black wire and the other to the 120v White.) ... show more

  • Very sensitive alarm not accurate
Update - I realized our other natural gas detector is at 0 when this one is at 4... same location ... and I moved this one around the house - and always 4 the other one always 0- but I did the lighter test with the other one to confirm that one works perfectly fine - so this one just is not working correctly- after about 6 months of use. The hardest part was setting it up as they say (so high up, but not above the stove, not by a window ... etc) We got this after we found a gas leak right after moving into our new place. But it seems to consistently be at a 2-4% ... which I don’t get why because the gas company has been to our house saying all is fine. However... this morning our heat went out which was an issue with the air intake and outtake from the house (condensation and freezing) and this thing woke us as it went off. We have a different one not as sensitive plugged in until we decide if this one with such a low % alarm rate is the right fit for us. I honestly don’t like it created a false alarm for us. ... there was a build up of gas but not in a harmful way and we would have woken cold and realized that the heater was out. ... instead we woke half asleep and scared- I ran to the baby’s room we called the gas company and grabbed our cat and all exited the house. ... delaying getting the heat back on- because again this thing was so loud and alarming and we were half asleep -instinct was to clear out of the house. ... show more

  • THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!
Have a Noritz instant hot water heater that after 10 years the heat exchanger began to leak and leaked extensively. Although Noritz sent almost all of the inside of the unit, until it arrived and could be installed, I was very concerned that if the gas manifold failed, I would have gas leaking into the basement. I installed this according to where it stated, where I am using Natural gas, which was to be installed about 1 foot from the ceiling as Natural gas is lighter than the air. I ten literally forgot it was installed. Today, when the plumber came to install the new parts into the heater, the part from Noritz came without a manifold pressure screw (had to pull it from the old manifold). During the change over, and the testing some Natural Gas did get loose into the room, but seriously only a very small amount. No sooner did gas escape, did the alarm begin to sound!! Scared the daylights out of the Plumber, but his response was the perfect one and exactly what this whole lengthy diatribe is meant to convey. He said, "I GUESS THAT THING REALLY WORKS!!" Thats the bottom line. It definitely works and it was proven to me today. Thank You and Good Choice!! ... show more

  • Every kitchen should have one of these
If the knobs on our range get turned accidentally they will allow gas into the house without ignition. This is simple to setup and has a clear display.
